If Cyric had been able to defeat an usurp all power of the known evil deities and become the one tur evil god, much like jehovah is to the christians would the mutitude of god and neutral gods be enough to stop him? |

Well i liked the fact that cyric and mask where at odds with each other.I Especially thought it was cool that mask hid kelemvors soul in the godslayer short sword that cyric carried on him and he didnt even know. Cyric is kind of a tool. By the end of the series i had much more intrest in mask then i did cyric. Characters like cyric flush out the really interesting characters from the wood work to deal with them due to there eccentricities. He's a tool, therefore he has a function. |

I got bored with him really fast in those books, personally. I was much more interested in Midnight and Kelemvor. The idea of magic and death having a connection through the relationship of the respective deities is certainly interesting to me. And honestly, who needs another insane evil god? Aren't Lolth and Kiaransalee enough? And one might add Loviatar and Umberlee to that list, come to think of it... |

For me cyric was the first evil deity that i had read about in the forgotten realms. He was also used in the Baldurs gate games as i recall. I followed all of the realms books that had reference to him and was quite enamored with him and mask until i learned of shar and the other deities. He seemed like the best and worst idea for a god that i had ever heard of. On one side of the token he is crazy like a fox and something about that adds to the intrigue of the story/game but on the other side he's too crazy of a character to last very long. To many people hate cyric and dont even realize that by doing so they are still giving him noteriety.
Cyric is to D&D as Howard stern is to Radio in my opinion. but i dont know what do yall think about cyric? |

I'm gonna disagree on one vital point. Cyric was never an interesting character, and he went from uninteresting in Avatar novels to tiresome only a few pages later. He was a useless twit who only ascended because he was the only conveniently immoral individual standing nearby.
He wasn't even interesting in Prince of Lies. What might be really interesting would be a rewrite of the novel without Cyric in it.
This simple Vecna Raistlin Cyric Evil God kills all the other gods and steals their power ... not really worth discussing, I think. Seen it before. If DMs don't like having too many gods then just run the Realms as a logocentric patriarchal monotheism if that makes ye happier. |

I'm gonna agree with Wooly here. Cyric went from being a pretty interesting character in the novels Shadowdale and a little bit in Tantras but Waterdeep and beyond, no thanks. His fall was just too fast and didnt make much sense to me IMO. And even as a deity, he's just too over-the-top crazy or Mad. I use him in my Realms with more discretion, staying to the shadows and really playing up the Assasssin style of killing that he wishes his followers employ. The occasional maniac, serial murderer that worshipps Cyric is fine, but that's generally NOT the norm.
As for the question in hand, yes eve if Cyric would usurp all the evil deities I feel all the Goodly deities and even Neutral ones would take him down. I could even see the demon and devil princes helping defeat Cyric, if anything to obtain some of that power for themselves. |

If we only need one evil deity, then we'd only need one good deity, and the need for a neutral deity would be iffy.
Thanks, but I'm not interested in any RPG that has its pantheon so simplified.
Me, I think Cyric was more pathetic than anything else. Iyachtu Xvim was so much cooler, and even Bane is better than the Mad Hatter Cyric. |

cyric was too much of a billy bad ass for the forgotten realms! I pose this question because if there was only one evil deity it would simplify the game enough for toddlers to play. possibly 5E adaptation? |

Yeah - like Cyric has any chance in hell of defeating Shar, Bane, or Talos. As I recall it was Cyric himself who was easily defeated, and by only one rookie little goddess, in fact. |
