What is the worst campain setting you have ever played in and why?

just curious to hear about the failed rpg worlds out there. So i can avoid them or to not make the same mistakes of others.

ROFLMAO!!!! The REALLY funny part is that I actually REMEMBER most of those shows, and the reporter!!!

I remember finding somewhere a site that explained how ALL the Hasbro Toy-inspired cartoons were linked. IIRC, it was through the reporter - the SAME reporter always appeared on TV to discuss the events.

I must find that, it was pretty cool, despite my own dislike for many of those toy-cartoons.

Found It.

Ack. DM's pet always sucks.

yeah. I think it was a character he created when we were 8, using one of his GI-Joes...

I created an NPC based on -- well, more like inspired by -- a GI Joe figure. If I ever get to DM, he's going to be a recurring villain for the PCs to fight.

He's not uber-anything though. Just a thief-mage.

Heh. I'm currently working on a Realmsian character who will be somewhat reminiscent of 'Old Snake' from the 1986 Transformers cartoon episode "Only Human." [G.I. Joe fans should understand the importance of that reference too.]

50 Centaur, "sword rapping" bard-bandit.

Not quite as bad as my my Bard, Elvish Presley. He was featured in my short-lived FR-meets-the-Old-West campaign, set in Anchorome in the late 1400's.

I also had Wyatt Elf and Doc Hobbitday.

No wonder it didn't last.........

So his first name is Ultimate?

I hope Greg Focker doesn't attempt to use that first name for one of his kids.

Yeah, this character.

Why hasn't Darwin removed his genetic material from the gene-pool yet?!

If there is any sort of God out there, please do not let him breed!

And yeah, DMPC's are BAAAAAD. I accidentally created one while trying to save a newbie party from a TPK, and realized after that it would have been preferable to let them all die and roll new characters (I thought I was helping them, but instead they felt 'cheated'). I'll never make that mistake again. In retrospect, I had one DM (my co-DM, actually) do that time and again with his pet character - steal the spotlight - and I remember how much we all hated it when he brought him along.

His gear was like Batman's utility belt in the campy 60's TV series - whatever he needed, he always seemed to have on-hand. I distinctly recall creating a brand-new creature just so he wouldn't have something specific to use against it, and he did anyway (after quickly scrawling on his character sheet "I have a ring vs 'insert name here'"). Recalling that, I can understand why my sons and their friends disliked so much the guy who saved them.

EDIT:
Ack! Forgot to answwer the OP!

Dragonlance, but I think that had a LOT more to do with the horrible DMing then the setting itself, which unfortunately left a bad taste in my mouth toward Krynn 'till this day.

The majority of games I've played in have been set in the realms. Otherwise, they were homebrew, so the worst would probably be the one where the DM had an NPC stealing the spotlight all the time (which was 12 years ago or so).
Synthalus Posted - 17 Dec 2010 : 15:07:21
personnaly the worst campaign setting i ever played in was set in alice in wonderland. in our D&D group we dont think its fare that one person DM his world for more six months at a time. there are 8 players in my group and there are thus 8 different worlds that we play in. some times a DM will get burnt out and we will sitch to another persons world early. On one occasion this happened and the next in line had nothing prepared so he threw us into the world of wonderland which we proceeded to trash and rebuild in our own image. it was an aweful waste of time and effort, the only fun part about it was when we stormed the red queens castle and handed her head to her literally LOL!
