As a fencer in real life I have a soft spot for all weapons that use cold steel as their business end. I'd like to compile a list of famous swords in Fearun in this scroll. Swords that have shaped the history of entire realms by their use. One of my PC's is a master swordsman and -smith and he would wax poetic over such things aswell.

So I'd appreciate any help in locating all awesome, epic swords in the Realms.

I know of several from the top of my head.

Amlaruil's Tahlshara

Gareth Dragonsbane's Crusader the Holy Avenger

Kiril Duskmourn's Angul

Yeah, that armor certainly holds some powerful enchantments. I could think up a few interesting names for it.

Longsword +3, eh?

I was more intrigued by Hillcleaver's weirdly imbalanced-looking shape (heavy barbed tip) than with it's magical properties. I suppose it's probably some kind of Holy Sword. I recall some mention somewhere about saurial blades all being different from "normal" ones, basically equal but requiring slightly different skill to properly wield.

Hillcleaver?

Really?

Now picture Alias in her armor...

As I recall, Alias just possessed a long sword +3.

A Look through the 2E 'god books' will give you a treasure trove of deific weapons. Aside from that, I just thought of Redethemar, the Axe of House Durothil (EoE, IIRC); and Azureedge, the Axe of Waterdeep. Also the Cormyrean blades of state. If noone looks them up before I get to my books, I will do so later tonight.

Good call!

I liked those, too. They struck me as being a Shady version of Moonblades, insofar as their enchantments grow more powerful over years of use by different owners. Haven't seen any stats, but I'd suspect they started off as swords of sharpness that let the wielder see in the dark. I doubt they're sentient (would've been mentioned in the novels, I think).

Part of what makes it interesting is that it can be used for divination and some sort of spell-extension or augmentation. Melegaunt used it to divine the day when he and Galaeron were in the Plane of Shadow and he also utilized it to create a temporary bridge in the Dire Wood.

There's always of course any captured (or purchased) Githyanki/Githzerai silver swords which might have been brought into the Realms. Not to mention any other extra-planar weapons brought in by spelljammer, fiend, celestial, or traveller.

Yes. The sword was secretly the avatar of Mask.

Sword of Ages (I think that's the name) from Evermeet and the Starym moonblade

Pretty sure that was Godsbane, indeed, but it's been a while since I read those.

Cheers

Titan slayer?(not Godsbane)... I think that was the name of the sword in Prince of Lies. And Mystra also created a sword that Mask possessed that help him defeat The Chaos Hound.

Good to know Erik. Thank you.

Perfectly fine with me- I enjoy them. (I also have a thing for Ren Faire baudy singers, if that tells you anything. anybody here know "The Ball of Ballynore"?)

Been trying to think of more famous swords, but the best I can come up with is Obould's unnamed flamebrand....

Ooh, in that case, now I REALLy want to see them. I'll take a pm, if you prefer to keep it away from the younglings. I love a good raunchy tune....

Be warned, however, I've taken a little inspiration from some of Ed's more "ribald" tunes.
Erik Scott de Bie Posted - 17 Nov 2010 : 00:37:07
No one's mentioned Vindicator yet, eh? Not like it's a sword wielded by a not-quite-dead god or anything.

You mean Betrayal? I recall 'twas crafted from hizaghuur metal, and it does have other unusual properties too. So I'd say yes.
That's the one. As for what those special properties are, I haven't yet revealed them all, but the sword is demonstrated to have the properties of what is in 4e a Subtle Weapon (bonus to damage when attacking with combat advantage) or in previous editions is a Sword of Subtlety (3e) or a Shortsword (er, rapier) of Backstabbing (2e).

Other powers as yet undisclosed.

Cheers

Sure thing. I'm not sure about the original lyrics though. They might be a little too "descriptive" for some of the younger folk of Candlekeep.

Galuf- I already mentioned the Elfblades, but the Warblade, Artblade, and Coronal's Blade bear seperate mention.
