Posted - 16 Jun 2010 : 06:20:26 Hi everybody,
has anyone a complete collection of the free Forgotten Realms articles on wizards.com? I started to download them, once I realized, that many links are already dead. I know that you can retrieve some via archive.org, but that's quite a task. Thanks scribes! |

Drizzt is starting to become a Joke, like Chuck Norris, and before he sinks into complete ridiculousness he should be retired. Better to die at the top of your game, then to sink into obscurity.
The 4e Realms are a time for 'New Stories' and 'New heroes' - this is what I keep hearing. Bringing Drizzt forward just make all of those statements false IMHO.
I grew-up on Greyhawk - Drow are evil to the core - don't let that double-agent Drizzt fool ya' |

Besides, who DOESN'T want to kill Drizzt? You just need to get through his 47 layers of 'plot armor'.....
Heck, I killed off Drizzt in BGII (stupid mind-controlling vampires).
Honestly though, that's probably the one thing that would turn 90% of the fans away from the Realms. After all, he's the bread & butter of WotC's novel department (no offense to Elaine & Ed, who are my faves, but RAS does sell a lot of books). |

Right, because if you stat-out something, then 10-yr-olds think its a monster and you are supposed to 'kill it'. I remember one rather funny - and poorly written - letter in Dragon magazine wherein a young DM told TSR that they would have to announce in their next product that Elminster was dead, because his friends had killed him.
So rather then attempt to change this mindset - which seems impossible I suppose - they agreed with it and decided to only give stats to those things that you ARE supposed to kill - monsters and 'bad guys'.
As much as I hate agreeing with them, which you may have noticed in the dripping sarcasm of my last post, I have to say this may have actually been the right way to go. There are a lot of 'Roll-players' out there who think that things with stats is like playing whack-a-mole, and that's never going to change.
Yeah, but they statted out Drizzt and Guenhyvar. |

I can't remember where I heard that factoid, nor its accuracy. I do recall them statting out the villainous NPCs, but the jist was that not many other NPCs would be statted out.
Meaning other than the ones in the FRCG??
Yes... Other than those...
Maybe they will be released gradually pending approval from independent submissions for Dungeon or Dragon based on how they feel? |

IIRC they also statted Jarlaxle in the 4e FRCG.
I was thinking mostly about the good guys in the realms, but if you factor in the bad guys as well, yes Jarlaxle is statted in the 4e FRCG as well as Manshoon and Fzoul (that I can remember off the top of my head for sure). Memory of a gold fish. |

They were worried those stat-blocks might tempt us into playing that old, crappy version of D&D.
Everyone knows 'Shiney' not only plays better, but it contains anti-oxidents and Flouride! |

Hopefully its because they plan on statting them for 4E and not simply for the fact of removing 3E stats...
I believe they stated that none of the NPCs of the Realms would be 'officially' statted out. Can't remember where I heard it, but I think it was on the WotC boards.
Strange considering they statted Drizzt & Guenhwyvar (maybe because they are meant as possible opponents in the article they appear in).

Exactly, and it irks me so... |

I've noticed that there's a lot of stuff missing, and not just FR, either....
Again, not missing, just not with valid links. Wizards has rearranged their site many, many times, and they seem to forget "small" details like updating all the links. I honestly believe that at this point, even their web admin folks would be hard pressed to find particular bits of content on their site.

Posted - 17 Jun 2010 : 13:35:35 I have a bunch (not all) saved on my USB and others printed....however when I saved them (which was tedious) I missed some of the broken link ones. I regret not marking down which those were cause now I have to gro through the entirety again if I wish to ensure I have them all saved. Gotta print them all also |

Indeed. Although time consuming, with a little patience, you can still pretty much find almost everything Wizards has ever uploaded to their site. I still occasionally find articles from the pre-2000 period... either archived or buried so deeply in multitudes of links that it takes almost a hour to finally find the article you're looking for. |

Posted - 16 Jun 2010 : 11:50:26 I've got the whole lot (I think) copied to word docs. It's a sloppy mess though.
Also, do you mean the stuff in my sig link? Because everything was there except for a couple of Portal articles... |

Posted - 16 Jun 2010 : 11:45:53 Everything is still out there, it's just that the links to the articles are hosed. Often you can find one or two of them via Google, and then use those URLs to find the rest. |
