Okay, I'm not going to be attending this year (too many plans and not enough money...)

But I was looking through the Event Catalog and ran some numbers:

Total D&D Events: 499
1st Edition: 19
2nd Edition: 3
3rd Edition: 9
3.5: 113
4th Edition: 214
Pathfinder: 141

Now, if we remove the games officially sponsored by Wizards or Paizo:

Total D&D Events: 252
1st Edition: 19
2nd Edition: 3
3rd Edition: 9
3.5: 113
4th Edition: 48
Pathfinder: 60

Verrrrrrry interestink.

There's that too... and considering that my active interests system-wise are far more Pathfinder-related anyway... but I have no money this year. Maybe next year...

I'll be there. :)

And if anyone is interested, I'm planning on running a planar Pathfinder/Golarion game (off the official event calander, to be scheduled once I pick up enough people).

Have fun with that

So that means you'll have miniature giant space hampsters?

Tentatively, I'm hoping to make it.

I love the numbers you started this scroll with, Ashe... very heartwarming. That being said, there are a few elements of the 4E ruleset that I like and plan to incorporate into my own Pathfinder campaign (chief among them being the opposed-roll mechanic for attack and defense, but Fort/Ref/Will are still called saving throws in my universe). I also like the Pathfinder Beta variant of basing starting hit points on a character's Constitution score rather than modifier; we're using that in the 3.5 campaign I'm currently playing a PC in.

To return to topic, I too am a GenCon virgin, and since the release of certain elements of 4E I had resigned myself to remaining so... but hearing about statistics like that makes me think that I need to try to get there at some point... a venue change to Seattle might be my best bet for that actually happening, however. Long trips are not in my budget now or in the foreseeable future, and Seattle is only a few hours' drive (and a border crossing) away from me. You'd think WotC and Paizo would both love to have GenCon in their back yard, though...

I HIGHLY recommend making the trek at least ONCE in your lifetime. I've been twice, once by myself in 2007 and last year with a group of friends. You literally never run out of stuff to do. Even if you have nothing scheduled or anywhere to go, you can head to the Exhibition hall and sit and chat with designer, authors, and artists.

If all else fails, seek out Ed and prostrate yourself before him as he imparts his wisdom to all!

not likely ever.

I'll be there again this summer, though this year may be my last for a while.

Probably best to ask Ed in his own scroll.

Yea. I think it's contracted still in Indy, Indiana till 2012 or later.

I think I have a family trip to NYC at that time.

I've never gone, and would like to, but this far out I don't have the slightest idea if that'll be possible.

My current work schedule for that period means attending GenCon this year is a tentative possibility.

More on this, as it develops.
George Krashos Posted - 13 Apr 2010 : 01:40:49
It looks like it's going to be a no from me as well. New baby and a very expensive (as it's turning out) 40th birthday in September have all but ruled it out.

Not this year, to busy. Plus, I think I have a friends wedding to go to that weekend.
Brimstone Posted - 12 Apr 2010 : 22:05:18
3.5 Rules, 4E Drools!

Ok, on topic now. I won't be going.

Still a Gencon Virgin.

Maybe next year.

lol... Sorry, I didn't mean to start carnage. But I thought it was interesting that, if you take out the 'officially' sponsored games, 3.5 was the most popular system.

Anyway, on to lighter topics. Who's going? Anyone want to buy me some dice?

No problem. I can just see what some people will start saying from this. It is actually interesting. I have yet to attend a GenCon. It would be great and I would gladly play some of each edition if I could.
Jorkens Posted - 12 Apr 2010 : 18:51:20
Interesting to see that there are no events for any of the (TSR)D&D versions. I would have thought there would be at least one.
