Greetings one and all!

In the game I'm currently running, the PCs are liable to find themselves somewhere in the general vicinity of the Tombs of Deckon Tharr, or however you spell it. As I understand it, the place is a barrow / tomb network inhabited by an undead bandit king of old and his leutenants, who once had themselves quite a sizable and wealthy domain.

I thought this was rather nifty, and seeing as it's sat in the middle of where the game was taking place anyway, I started pondering and tinkering...

Of course, I couldn't leave the damn thing alone and now it's turned into nine hidden necropoli that Deckon Tharr and the other eight Grey Kings (made up title) rule their unliving and cursed kingdom from. They've all persisted in undeath since the days of Netheril, watching the living placing small ammounts of their ancient horde in mortal hands to bend their will.

The Grey Kings themselves are rarely seen, locking themselves ay
way in the darkness of their scrying chambers for years at a time, but when seen they hide themselves in the ancient grey fuerary garb they were originally burried in.

The Grey Kingdom itself is 'populated' by the ghosts of the Grey Kings old subjects and the victims of their raides and treasure.

The PCs are liable to wind up there in search of their ancient and forbidden knowledge. I don't intend it to be a combat encounter, preferably a diplomatic / investigatory detour with some horror stuff and creepy NPCs thrown in.

Anybody else had fun with Deckon Tharr? Any significant lore for itfloating about?

Actually, it's the other way around - Ref5-Lords of Darkness was published in 1988, so the line in Silver Marches would have been based on the adventure . As for the adventure - it's nothing special, a dungeon crawl pitting the PCs against a pack of wights, with some treasure after defeating the main wight. Lore-wise, it does not contain anything more that what's in the timeline blurb. You could easily replace the Tomb with any other tomb.

Do you mean lore other than the original "Tomb of Deckon Thar" adventure featured in the 1st-edition REF5-Lords of Darkness?

It was placed on the map in Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas.

Also, one of the timelines that still float on the internet here, to be precise, contains the following line for 888 DR: "The Chieftains of Gold, a bandit group led by the brigand Deckon Thar, establish a hold in the Nether Mountains between Silverymoon and Sundabar and begin raiding passing trade caravans." (I do not think this line has been reprised in the Grand History of the Realms, at least not at that date.)
