I have noticed fewer posts over the last couple of days when I get a chance to check out the site. Has everyone moved to Baldur's Gate or are they all just hiding? |

Well, I was talking about a firewall at home. For a business it should be a no brainer, and there should not be a problem with it doing it's job. Whoever was in charge of it should have been fired if you are getting viruses at work. Unless someone deliberately attacked your system, then it can be a pain in the butt, but if it's just something that's out there on the net you've got problems. |

Well said Edain. Needless to say, the worker responsible for maintaining my workplaces firewall and virus prevention software has received a stern talking to by his immediate superior for his apparent lack of effort.
It's times like this that I am glad I am a programmer and not a systems administrator... .

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: firewall. This particular variety of ward is effective at keeping alls kinds of unwanted viruses at bay. I know, I've been behind one of my own creation for two years and I have not gotten a virus on one of my machines yet. |

the funny thing is... the news said that the aforementioned worm had something along the lines of how the spell used to summon it (it's coding) was faulty in a way to where it slightly worked against itself to where it wouldn't do all that it was supposed to do... can't remember the specifics as i heard that a few days ago and my bro and i got a good laugh out of that thinking that the person that created/altered it is kicking themselves now for the mistake... |

No Bookwyrm. Australia and most of Japan and South-East Asia where struck very hard by the Blaster.Worm creature.
It says alot about computer virus prevention though doesn't it... .

Eh, I'm almost there.  As mentioned on another thread, though, I have a tendancy to be a bit too competitive. Occasionally, I've had to stop myself on here to keep from posting for the sake of posting, and not for the sake of saying something worthwhile.
That's not the actual reason I haven't been on lately, though it is why I haven't made so much of an effort to come back. The real reasons are what I stated above, along with (as mentioned elsewhere) a necromantic cantrip being slipped on my scrying device. Not nearly as dangerous as that 'blasting worm' (which sounds as though some conjurer slipped in an Abyssal pet into the Sage's workplace), but quite frustrating in its simplicity.
Oh, and I had thought that it was just the NYC area . . . that's all I heard on the news. I admit, though, that I haven't been paying much attention to the town criers as of late . . . . |

As it turns out, I wasn't really that free from my work responsibilities either. A particularly nasty outsider creature called a Blaster.Worm made short work our the magical defenses that both myself and my fellow co-workers had erected into place around our workstations. It took several days to completely purge the creature from our domain and restore the semi-permanent nature of the spell's defensive properties.
Anyway, after all of that I am now ready to resume my duties as the Master of Realmslore here at Candlekeep.
::The Sage wearily glances at the hap-hazard piles of scrolls littered around the surface of his desk - obviously placed there by Alaundo upon the Sage's return to Candlekeep. He sighs to himself silently, as he sits and wonders how long it will be before the Bookwyrm receives his promotion so that he can assist in these scroll keeping duties:: .

I apologise for allowing my "Master Scribe" duties to fall to the wayside for this previous week, but after exams, and the amount of study that was involved...I felt I needed a little holiday to refresh myself (and some spare time to catch up on all my reading that was sorely neglected during the period). This unfortunately involved a week-absence from the internet, work and my studies at the university.
On the plus side though, it gave me time to update some of my campaigns to 3.5e, so it wasn't a completely D&D-free period.

I guess I am one of the only people in the Northeastern United States who can claim to have had his power out for only about eight hours. But...ummm...methinks Alaundo might be watching, so let us speak less of the acursed...ummm..."shadow magic" that befell so many. Oh, and I've been out of town until late, so, yeah, that's where I was. |

The blackout affected I think Ontario only of Canada, and then Ohio, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey (My abode). Fortunately I only lost power for 6 hours. The town next to me and where I work, only had a flicker of lights, but kept power throughout the whole thing. New York City was hit HARD. Power was out for 29 hours.
