Anyone know if anyone who is able to contribute to Dragon (the James brothers or someone else) plans on maybe statting up Avariel for 4E? I think that would be pretty neat to see them make a comeback. Thoughts?

I like the Fey'ri class Diffan just posted. I think it goes to show how well you can balance races for PCs in 4E (with the use of Encounter Powers and improving powers at Paragon levels, etc...).

I concur with the above.

You could even just strip the Elven Accuracy and Wild Step out of a standard Elf and add the Fey'ri Flight power.

A series of feats and racial powers is probably the easiest way to do it, you could even slap together an Avariel flavoured paragon path with some flight based slick moves, etc.

Well, someone did a pretty good homebrew write-up of the Fey'ri as a playable race. I'm sure there can be things that are changed and still keep it balanced. Here's their version of Fey'ri 4e:

FEY’RI

RACIAL TRAITS
Average Height: 5' 4" - 6' 0"
Average Weight: 130 - 170 lb.

Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence
Size: Medium
Speed: 6 squares
Vision: Low-light

Languages: Elven, Common
Skill Bonuses: +2 Bluff, +2 Arcana
Ancestral Weapon Proficiency: You gain proficiency with the longsword.
Dual Heritage: You can take feats that have either eladrin or tiefling as a prerequisite (as well as those specifically for fey’ri), as long as you meet any other requirements.
Trance: Rather than sleep, fey'ri enter a meditative state known as trance. You need to spend 4 hours in this state to gain the same benefits other races gain from taking a 6-hour extended rest. While in a trance, you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Daemontouched: Once per encounter, you can use either the Change Shape or Flight power.

Change Shape; Fey'ri racial power
You alter your form to look like some other humanoid.
Encounter * Polymorph
Minor Action; Personal
Effect: You can alter your physical form to take on the appearance of any Medium humanoid until the end of the encounter or for 5 minutes.

Flight; Fey'ri Racial Power
You spread your bat-like wings and take to the skies.
Encounter
Move Action; Personal
Effect: You gain fly 6 (clumsy) until the end of your next turn. If you are not standing on solid ground at the end of your movement, you glide to the ground without taking falling damage.

RACIAL FEATS

Born Flyer
Prerequisite: Paragon, Fey’ri, Flight racial power
Benefit: You may use your Flight power as an at-will ability

Improved Flight
Prerequisite: Paragon, Fey’ri, Flight racial power
Benefit: Your maneuverability while flying is improved by one category

The Avariel are awesome. I would love to see them in 4e but my suspicion is that this sort of development and design would come from the WotC staff. Because of the nature of their abilities (flying, et al), it may be easier to introduce as a monster rather than a playable race. Either way, great suggestion

I think posting here at Candlekeep is bound to attract "someone's" attention. It often does.
