Dear fellow scribes...I penned this tonight...its a work in progress,
but I cannot think of a tune for it...any ideas anyone????
“Voices of the Lost”
A human wanderer
Lost and alone
Finds her rest
Upon a circle of stone
A slab of white marble
Became her bed
As a vision filled dream
Did enter her head
A voice from the mists
Peeled back layers of time
In ancient Seldruin
She heard a lost rhyme
(Chorus)
Greetings fair traveller
What brings you here?
To this place in a lost realm
A land we hold dear.
This estuarine plain
Where the land meets the sea
Where we sailed the Delimbiyr
No more will we be
The traveller, she stood
Tears flowed from her eyes
Awe struck by the beauty
Of a realm doomed to die

Greetings fair traveller

To this place in a lost realm

As humans invaded

Bloated by hubris and greed
Of the Sapphire Forest
Its destruction, the seed.

The folly of pride

Lost voices, forlorn

Sorry its so long....but the poem/song is supposed to last for six hours...on and off.... |

The song is over 20 minutes long,
so only 3 times through gives you
an hour. |

I'd agree with that, for the most part. But I really think the symphonic poem is the appropriate course to follow here. Musical accompaniment to the lyrics is minimal, at times, but also serves to underline how rich and vibrant the setting for the poem can be. And with the elves, I'd think that's the point.
Anyways, check out the works of Franz Liszt. He's considered the "master of the symphonic poem" for a reason.  |

As it's quite a long poem, and, as you say, it's meant to last for six hours, I would suggest minimal music if any. A drone or the occasional strum on a harp should be enough. I can see this poem being something a bard would relate with minimal accompaniment since the aim is to tell a story. |

What about something from ERA?
I might have misunderstood your question, but I think they have some tunes similar to what you are looking for, like Impera/Empire (could've been the title of your song hehe)
I really like what you have written Snowblood. Did you use alot of time composing it, or did it just come to you as you were writing it down?

That'd be fine Sage, feel free to tinker with the words to make em fit, or add verses, after all there is no "complete" version of the poem, I'm just trying to pen one that would fit into a gaming session or two so that people can role play the use of the gates. Feed back on the poem...critical or otherwise is appreciated... |

Setting a tune for something like this, is exceedingly difficult, since we've no known aural examples of elven music in the Realms. And my own attempts [as I discussed with you in another scroll] vary, slightly, from what most here would normally equate with elven-sounds.
Having said that, I really think this is something I need to tinker with further. Initially, I'm thinking of something Finnish in tone, possibly by Sibelius, the composer. I'm not suggesting an exact translation, of course. More like looking to some of his works, probably his symphonic poems [Kullervo], and using those tunes as a basis. |
