Is that the soundtrack that features electronic recordings NASA made from the recorded sounds of wind collected by probes descending into the Jovian atmosphere? If so, then I can say he's got it because I purchased it for his birthday back in May.

Maybe I'm confusing it with something else.

its for the new film with sam rockwell and directed by david bowies son.

As a side-point to this, I found the Watchmen soundtrack to be of significant use when campaigning on Coruscant as part of any Star Wars RPG session. Good stuff!

When i Dm my games i tend to put in alot of japanese music like the original soundtracks for kingdom hearts or soundtracks from any of Miyazaki's films. If im trying for a horror style game i have a few soundtracks from the resident evil games that i use, they tend to really add to the mood.

When I run my "Eberron" campaigns, I use mostly film soundtracks.

For the few Realms games I've DM'ed, Watchmen works particularly well for adventures in urban settings, like Waterdeep or Athkatla.

And, I've also noted how well my players respond to the Battlestar Galactica soundtracks when campaigning in the Shaar or around the region of the Shining South.

I prefer total silence. But I love it when it's raining outside.

Every once in a while, I may listen to music while reading.

If I do, it is one of three:

1. New Age Spa,
2. Classical, or
3. Radio Rivendell: The Fantasy Station. The internet radio station only plays music from LoTR and CRPG games. The URL for the radio station is here.

Edit/Update: Since radio rivendell website is being updated, use the flash player, hit search (lower left, second button going left to right), type in radio rivendell, and select it. I find it nice to listen to while at candlekeep.

Could you send me some samples? (eder.appel@terra.com.br)

I can do that. Be warned however, these will be fairly large files.

Classical, mostly. A little baroque-style as well and some jazz too.
BlackAce Posted - 26 May 2009 : 00:30:43
I don't generally listen while reading novels, I find it distracting. Though if I'm doing some sourcebook research, I'll sometimes put on some Chillout, generally Michael Woods Remixes, some Masive Attack, Zero7, Morcheeba, Groove Armada, etc. Occasonally, I'll put on some classical music, Boccherini or Elgar, typically. Extremely rarely I'll play some Blues.

since the invention of spotify ive got an unlimited source of great music to listen to while reading.just gettin into tangerine dream.

My god, I almost asked how did you put "Originally posted by XXXXX" on your quotes... After 133 posts, just now I realize that there's an icon to do it.

I'm a bit reluctant to share the full versions of any of my works because we're still shopping around for a label/distributor to sell them. So there's no website at the moment unfortunately. I can send you some samples though, if you're interested.

My quartet and I did manage to put together a sample CD with some of our works back in '03 for a local fund-raiser. But it's release was limited to just the city of Perth and a production of just 500 discs. I could probably send you a copy if you're interested, since I've a few to spare.

Unfortunetly, I don't have more copys of my ex-band (R.I.P.) to do the exchange. (but I think our songs didn't give the atmosphere to reading.. (Californian-HC))

Coming back to the topic... Normally I read in silence, I have to much things to read, so, to a fast reading, I need all the concentration that I must.

I honestly cant see listening to music while I read, I am a music lover and really think that music is like a good wine, it should be able to stand on it's own legs. I do, however, listen to music when I am drfting up a new campaign. I find that Bach and Chopin help me to focus on story and if I want battle themes I try to focus on Tchaikovsky. When I am writing wilderness campaigns, I listen to music I grew up with, celtic folk music being the most common such as the Chieftains and Slainte.

My group seems to enjoy the soundtracks for each season of the [new] Battlestar Galactica series. Suitably epic, at times, and almost always themed toward grand battles. Take note of the Season 3 soundtrack particularly, and the music that focuses on the storming of New Caprica. I used that as background music for an major encounter last month, and my players loved it.

I agree Fillow. Conan is certainly my favorite "battle music". I use the others a lot also. The Van Helsing soundtrack is good too. Anyone have any other ideas for good battle music? Not looking for metal or anything like that. More like what Fillow listed. For epic battles and such.

I like to listen to some classical music while readinf FR books.
But I especially like to listen to Fantasy, medieval, "antic" movies soundtracks (LotR, Conan (both), Gladiator, Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans...)

"It's a small world" or "3-2-1 Contact"(Electric company's theme song)
Gang Falconhand Posted - 19 May 2009 : 21:24:44
When reading, usually nothing, or the sound of life going on around me (I do most of my novel reading on public transport).

When playing I've put together a load of playlists. Each one has a theme relating to current play events or I've tried to give certain locations, races, or cultures a definite 'feel' through music. I use classical, soundtrack, world music, traditional folk, and some electronic music. Almost always with no vocals unless it's some wailing or word-less melodies.

I like to listen to a Mittelalter Rock group called Schandmaul. It's a very interesting group that plays medieval music (either the theme, or just the sound) with common rock instruments today, and with medieval/classic instruments.

You (all) might find a French group called Malicorne of interest, then.

Also, Dead Can Dance are amazing for their exotic musical style and Lisa Gerrard's vocals.

Otherwise, some classical stuff like Bach or Beethoven, or Romantic like Dvorak or Tcaikovsky. I have a larger collection of folk tunes, also.
That's good to hear. Tchaikovsky's music doesn't get nearly as much appreciation as it should.
