Just last night I read Ed's intro to Blackstaff Tower, and how Khelben and his paramour Laeral were there (in Waterdeep) to keep "Halaster in check".
That may have been Ed's original vision, but with all the years of intervening lore, it makes you wonder exactly who was keeping who 'pinned down'.
Also, in another recent thread, we were trying to figure out if Halaster was Doctor Who. I don't think we ever came to a conclusion, but the Chronomancer seems like a likier choice, and I think we found the Tardis in Dragonlance instead.
Of course, Elminster is the one that has the rep for running around the multiverse with young hotties in tow... |

I always wanted to play that adventure that halaster get kidnapped by the member of the twisted runes. he is one of the few if not only wizard that is able to send messages to all the magic users across the realms.
That was Undermountain: Stardock. Which was one of the Dungeon Crawl modules for 2e. It was the third and final module set in Undermountain [the other two were The Lost Level and Maddgoth's Castle -- all three are available for free at WotC:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads]

Posted - 19 Feb 2009 : 12:58:07 Portella, did you read Elminster in Hell?
To me, the entire novel have almost all the best moments with Halaster... specially when he accept MystraŽs quest... without know what he have to do. |

Halaster Blackcloak was indeed Eds creation!
I think, he was first mentioned in the Waterdeep and the North from 1987 or even in the old Gray box - but I would have to check that for varification.
Actually, I don't think he was mentioned until the Ruins of Undermountain boxed set. I just did a quick check of the pdfs of both FR1 Waterdeep and the North and the Old Grey Box. Neither had mention of Halaster. There were a few mentions of Undermountain in the former, but not in the latter.
Indeed. I do believe the first Ruins of Undermountain boxed set features the original published Realmslore reference on Halaster.
I stand corrected. I did a search such as Woolys and came to the same outcome.
My appologies. |

I have them, I hoping that in the question about halaster to ed have some info that is not in any source book.
That's highly likely. From Ed's past comments on the Mad Mage, we know there was still plenty to be told about him before his demise in Expedition to Undermountain.

Posted - 18 Feb 2009 : 14:59:57 Halaster is one of my favorite archmages too, since I read about him in the Ruinf of Undermountain boxed set (the only 2dn Edition supplement translated to Brazil).
I think that I have some of the EdŽs answers about Halaster in my computer. When I go home, IŽll take a look for this info. ^^ |
