Posted - 23 Jan 2011 : 08:09:53 I'll second that. Though truthfully, a bit of pain and/or discoloration in itself is not always an indicator. Now, if the condition gets much worse (like turning black and boiling up with puss or starting to rot), or if the pain is accompanied by burning, shortness of breath,or other worrisome symptoms- THEN it's time to worry. Just about ANY spider can cause some pain when it bites, much like an ant. |
Dennis |
Posted - 23 Jan 2011 : 08:03:24 Most probably, since the bite was painful and there was some discoloration in my skin.
Though my dislike for spiders is not as intense as my dislike, or rather my loathing for roaches. |

Posted - 23 Jan 2011 : 06:11:05 Sacrilege, vile murderer!! Lolth smite thee!!! LOL!!!! JK. Was it even poisonous? sometimes it's hard to distinguish the venomous ones from the harmless ones unless you KNOW what to look for. I only ever kill the recluses, because the hubby's been bitten by them TWICE. And yet I can count a half-dozen times I've had one on me, and never ONCE got bitten. He jokes that I'm in Lolh's favor.... |

I was once bitten by a spider long, long time ago. And ever since, whenever I see one, I kill it. |

Posted - 23 Jan 2011 : 04:03:58 Hee-hee! I've done that- dreaming of Drizzt, I mean. Even considered writing a story about that dream. For those who think the 100-year time-jump of post-Spellplague is big, how about an 800-YEAR one, with him stuck in miniaturized stasis in a magic box?!! And then there is the pretty zircon and marcusite spider pendant my hubby bought me for X-Mas this past holiday- because I saw it months ago and have had my eye on it ever since. Reminded me of the amber one Fyodor gave Liriel, lol!!! That and he accuses me of being a Lolthite because I like spiders and won't let him kill them!!! (They also seem to be drawn to me, for some weird reason. I have been known to find tiny arachnids crawling on me for no particular reason, and they never bite me- even brown recluses do not bite me!!) |

Posted - 22 Jan 2011 : 05:56:18 I realized I played too much Baldur's gate (game based on Realms) when I was watching TV. There was a story about a person who died of cancer. I thought: so they must ressurect him! Then I realized what I was thinking. I spent lots of time searching for jewelry in elven style. Sadly in this town I couldn't find anything. I also want plstic surgery on my ears to make them pointy. After all I wanted to resemble a moon elf. Once I dreamt about Drizzt and he was quite nice... |

Posted - 20 Jan 2011 : 00:56:03 Oh, I remember, in one of our heated meetings that turned a bit personal, I once told my boss, "Your immutably unattractive face is beyond hope. Even the magic of the Zulkir of Enchantment could NOT fix it!" Good thing he could not fire me. Thinking back, I don't think I ever regretted saying it, after all he told me... |

Speaking of 1980's Australian stuff on film (or video, as the case may be) - where in the Realms would the Flying Doctors best fit in?
Any desert region I suppose, with brief access to locations large enough to host a spelljamming port -- as that's kind of an idea I've had for some time now. A spelljammer-styled airborne medical corps running across Toril and assisting those in remote regions who desperately need the healing powers of a cleric. |

Hmm, you know you read too much Realms when you start asking what class a character in a movie would be.....
Heh. The other day, I was watching what I thought to be a poorly-scripted Australian fantasy film from the 80's. With names for characters like Bob, Tom, and Andrew, I started quickly referring to them, instead, by Realms character names.

Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 20:53:36 I don't wish to debunk that philosophy. It's just that to me, it sounds crazy---a highly subjective perspective based on innumerable arguable matters I'd rather not delve into right now.
Back on topic: At times I make certain FR-related things the standard of their kind. For instance, sometimes, when I read a non-FR novel whose system of magic did not interest me that much, I wished it should have used the Realms' own system of magic. |

Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 20:33:45 dennis- by some beliefs, that IS a "real being". There are some philosophies which think it is the source of all life and souls, and that all souls return to it eventually. A "creator" that is pure "soul". Much like thePlanescape idea of souls becoming one with the realm/domain of their patron deity. But with the actual "power" instead of the realm.

Dennis |
Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 17:27:26 Not "collective consciousness (souls) of all things," but, according to him, a real being. Crazy.
I recall once I dreamt of bashing Galaeron. Must be my consciousness invading the realm of my dreams, for that's exactly what I wanted to do to the demented elf after reading RotA. |
Alystra Illianniis |
Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 17:19:26 I think it's talking about the "higher power" of the universe, which in some traditions is the collective consciousness (souls) of all things. Not really crazy- but not really relavent to the discussion, either. |
Dennis |
Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 16:22:04 Fantastical dreams tend to be 'crazy.' And that Universal Soul Sri blabbers about is one of the craziest (and ridiculous) things I've ever heard. |

Posted - 18 Jan 2011 : 15:31:06 Dreaming about fantastical things reminds me of this rather fantastical philosophy of dreams:
Sri Nimbarkacharya on Dreams: As some dreams are indicative of future good or bad fortunes, it is impossible for the individual to dream a good or a bad dream according to his own choice, he, being in his present state of bondage, ignorant of the future. The individual soul, in his emancipated state, can certainly exercise his will for the creation of vision in dreams; but the power, in the state of his bondage, remains eclipsed by the superior will of the Universal Soul, who directs his actions according to the merits and demerits of his past conduct; and the suppression of his power is due to his being encaged in the body. |
