I've tried my hand at city mapping with the release of CD3. Since i just started the mega adventure trilogy Cormyr-Shadowdale-Anauroch, i thought it would be a good idea to make a new map of Wheloon.

So without further introduction ... here's my version of it.

Pat

Bravo Patrakis! Bravo!

I will use this in my campaign. This is the first time I run a group entirely comprised of human (Chondathan) males, so I bet the starting town (i.e. Wheloon) will be a long-standing adventuring base for them, with many ties with the local populations. One of the players has a business-minded rogue (he calls himself a merchant) who runs a warehouse on the east side, and that players already knows half of the Volo's entries on Wheloon by heart (i.e. this makes for beautiful RP'ing, as he knows the other town merchants and shopkeepers by name, in play!)

Man I love this group!

Hail,

Well i've done the modifications and the map now shows the locations found in the Volo's guide to Cormyr with 2 additions of my own. Building 30 and 31.

I've also removed the forested area around town to illustrate the fact that the surrounding regions is made of farmland and not forest.
Here's the link to the new version.

Hope i have everything covered but if not don't hesitate to show me.

Thanks

Pat

We can only hope that we get the same kind of apology from Wizbro regarding FR4e at some point... but I'm not holding my breath. In any case, it's still a great map, and I apologize for straying off topic briefly.

You're all quite welcomed my fellow scribes. :)

And to Christopher Rowe, I've looked up the Whellon map in the Cormyr source book (i had it on shelf but never looked at it) and there is much more information on it, building wise and also with more terrain features. I will update my map with this information.

I appologies for the lack of research i've shown with this project. It won't happen again.

Jakk, for one who doesn't want to learn too much photoshop and likes the philosophies behind CAD drawings, CC3 is a must.

Thanks

Pat

Very nice map! I'll have to check out ProFantasy's version 3; I wasn't really thrilled with version 2, but I was in college full-time when I was trying it out, so I probably just didn't have the time to focus on it that I needed. Thanks for sharing!

The last canon Wheloon map was published in the Appendix of "Cormyr: the Tearing of the Weave," which explains the discrepancies between Volo's and Patrakis' map (i.e. Patrakis no doubt based his on the last canon Wheloon map published; i.e. the "Cormyr: Tearing of the Weave" map...)

Ha! Well, I guess I do have a map after all. I've been downloading one of those every couple of days, but haven't read them all yet (I'm actually still making my "slow and steady" reads through the new books, and I've also bought all these 3.0/3.5 books, and while I'm fine with .pdfs if there's two things I need to read, I'm more likely to pick up the one that's in hard copy).

Anyway, comparing the two (Volo's and Patrakis's), it looks like there was a fair amount of development on the eastern shore between, what, 1360 or so and 1375 or so?

I bet the 15th century prison city is on one side or the other, with a support village on the opposite bank.

Hi Christopher_Rowe,

The map is Canon and taken from the tearing of the weave adventure. Onlu the placement of forest and farmlands is personal since there were not that many details in the original. The topography is also my interpretation cause WotC artist rarely show topography.

Thanks

Pat

I'm not sure I have a Wheloon map in my library to compare it to--is the way it's spread across both banks of the river canon? That makes the design of a walled Wheloon-as-prison in the 15th century an interesting challenge.

(when I ran my group through it, I described the surrounding miles as rolling farm fields, except for God's Grove and whatever forested areas are shown in the Wheloon map, within the Cormyr adventure book...)

Hi there,

Taking the map from tearing of the weave, i didn't see any farm lands so i made some but made the rest very LIGHTY wooded. It's not a forest per say. But i might edit the map and make more farm lands.

Good point sir knight... i'll look into it.

Thanks.

Pat

I'm currently running my group through the beginnings of the Cormyr adventure. I will send them a link of your map. It is incredibly beautiful!

I am certainly interested in a map of Wheloon, and that one's great. Good work Patrakis!

Also good to see work for the Realms continuing.
Patrakis Posted - 27 Sep 2008 : 12:30:15
I've added a little 3.5e in the title so people know what version this is inspired from. I wouldn't know what happend to Wheloon in 4e though. I just thought maybe some people would be interested in an old version map.

The Sage Posted - 27 Sep 2008 : 08:05:54
For the most part. The city's been largely sealed up by both brick and magic.
Markustay Posted - 27 Sep 2008 : 06:28:19
Great Map!

Doesn't Wheloon become a 'prison city' in 4e?
