Just curious here -- has anyone used the Healers from the Miniatures Handbook in a game, and if so, how did they work out?

On their own, they are a little weaker than clerics, but they heal a lot!

In a large party already containing a cleric, they make a great choice as a support character.

Like a cohort for a clerical character?

Yes, that would work, and also in say, a party with 5 or more players already having a cleric... the 5th or 6th PC could be a bard, healer, etc. (i.e. healer is a good support class, but not a very good substitute for a cleric...)

There's also the fact that they have their own, separate, different, divine spell list, and I exploit this fact when I play my Archivist PC in my friend's campaign (i.e. archivist can scribe divine spells down into a prayerbook - like a spellbook but for divine spells - and when doing so, he is not limited to spells on the cleric list... so my archivist take advantage of that fact, as the healer list has spells like remove disease and remove paralysis that come a lower levels than their equivalent on the cleric list... so archivists can scribe those in, along with paladin, ranger and druid spells, but that is another story!)

Yeah, I like the archivist too. Works great with gods like Deneir and Oghma, and the knowledge aspect is even more fun. A great way to get lore to the players.
