No, I'm not talking about those nasty, obese noblewomen who keep showing up to cause trouble in Ed's stories.  I'm talking about hag hags -- the ones from the Monster Manual.
Has anything ever been written or said about how hags specifically fit into the Realms? They'd never be major players, I know, but some idea on who they worship, where they can be found, and any of the more famous ones would be helpful.
And talking hag deities -- considering the writeup that the annis got in Dragon (I miss you, old friend. *sniff*) that mentioned the hag goddess Cegilune, who was once a deity of the moon before she 'went bad' and turned her priestess-daughters into the monsters they are now, has anyone done any thinking about how that could be used with Selune? Maybe Cegilune was a demi-deity servant/daughter of the Silver Lady who was corrupted by the Gods of Fury, and her clerics and servants followed suit?

Thanks for the link, but I'm avoiding 4e.
Though that does fit in nicely with my take on hags as servants of the Gods of Fury. And I could use the Bheur Hag of Rashemen as a servant of Auril.
And it's good to see that Realms info is still being put out for 4e Realms. |

There's a Winter Hag detailed in the "Hall of the Frostmaiden" Realmslore article in Dragon 367, posted just today.
"Winter hags are the most likely of Auril's handmaidens to be encountered on Faerūn--notably in the land of Rasheman" (p. 30).

Given Rashemen's identity as a sort of fantasy Russia/Finland, it being the homeland of hags does make sense.
That or someplace 'Celtic' like the Moonshaes. |

There's also reportedly a sea hagnamed Maraglynisliving somewhere in a sea cave "on the shoreline of any sea" "where pirates are likely to operate, such as in the Sea of Fallen Stars or the Sword Coast. The Shining Sea is a possibility as well, as are the seas farther south." |

Hags are pretty important players in the Rashemen region (Rashemen, incidentally, is largely controlled by witches). In this case, hags can operate on their own or as part of covens. I believe I read somewhere that, aside from Thay, hags are the biggest threat to a given Rashe...menian...'s well-being.

These hags are a category of D&D monster. Hags in the 'ghastly human crone' sense aren't by any means all witches. |

In the English version of the game, the different types of hag are monsters. Witch has occasionally popped up as a character option, but witches are generally demihuman characters, and hags are humanoid monsters.
Outside of the game, hag and witch can have similar meanings. |

Annis definitely serve Mask and probably other NE gods. Tanta Hagara rules over other hags in Hellgate Keep; Mhaug rents undead in Skullport. Gary Gygax developed the intended role of the night hags in the daemonic NE lower plane (Hades) in the later Gord novels; I think they really belong there as much as demons in the Abyss and devils in Hell.
There are greenhags in various woodlands including the Elven Woods and the King's Forest. Sea hags are associated with Olhydra, the evil water-elemental princess (City of Ravens Bluff; they're also mentioned in Sea of Fallen Stars). Rashemen has the wintry bheur. |
