Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 11:36:09 Hello, I'd like to ask this question to the community as I have a few doubts about it. What would the relationship be between a Fire Genasi monk of Kossuth and a druid of Silvanus? Silvanus doesn't like fire but I figured that a genasi has a Fire Elemental Plane heritage and therefore he's somehow connected to the natural elemental magic also used by druids. More specifically, these druids also cast spells to have flames covering their blades. Would a fire genasi be hated by them? or rather they'd see him as an incarnation of an elemental power and therefore respect him? Thanks for your points of view and suggestions |

Posted - 03 Sep 2008 : 19:30:20 Turned out there are reason uknown to me for which the DMs considered the druid's behaviour correct... Anyway, a few days after the druid hurt the genasi and thrown him in the river when he passed out, a big fire burst in the forest. The cause of the fire is uknown but we al liked to think it was Kossuth's vengeance |

Posted - 02 Sep 2008 : 17:13:37 Considering that KOSSUTH has Druids of his own, then NO, it is not normal at all.
In every canon instance I have ever read, Druids always issue at least one warning first - they don't go out and start picking fights.
Saying something along the lines of "Respect the forest while you travel here, and we will all be happier" is more along the lines of a 'subtle threat' that I see druids doing. Attacking a creature associated with fire without provocation just creates a new threat to the forest, which is plain stupid, IMHO. |

Posted - 02 Sep 2008 : 17:09:31 No, no, first of all it's a persistant world of Neverwinter Nights 2 online and DMs are not always there to see every player in every corner of the world. The druid protects the half-drow! and the genasi was NOT in the wood but just outside. I meant to say, is it really that normal that a druid of Silvanus is that eager to attack a fire genasi when HE, in the first place gives shelter to a couple of half drow? |

Posted - 02 Sep 2008 : 16:38:09 Obviously, in retrospect, the Druid was correct.
Although how he should have known this ahead of time is beyond me - methinks your DM knows you too well, and applied meta-gaming knowledge to the situation. You come from Thay and you hangout with Drow - thats enough to get you a quick death in most Heartland nations.
Also, Druids consider themselves the 'police' of the forest.
If I told a cop to 'bugger off' after he approached me and asked what I was about, I would aspect him to get pretty hostile on me (though I would be surprised if he turned into a bear and mauled me). |

He protects a couple of half-drows in his circle O_O They are good but...since he was so eager to attack my fellow Thayan genasi, shouldn't he just as well ban or kill the two abominations? I just feel like burning dow the whole place... |

I'll give you more info on the specific episode. One of the player from the online shard plays a fire genasi who is also a monk of Kossuth and a Thayan. He was walking on the path near Cloakwood and a local druid started to scrutinyze him. He told the druid to bug off and the druid changed into a bear and mauled him. This caused some tension and we would like to figure out if the druid's reaction is justified based on the fact he's a fire genasi.
To attack after being told to step off? No, the druid's action is not justified. |

I concur. Remember, fire has a place in nature. Even though a forest fire can be destructive, it also clears out a lot of undergrowth and gives new plants and trees a chance to thrive. Fire isn't just a destroyer -- it's also a cleanser and purifier. |

Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 15:26:14 Here's my list, so far, of nature deities in the Realms (those who grant spells to druids and rangers) ===========================
Druids and Rangers must worship one of the following deities in order to receive divine spells. This deity must also be the Patron deity of the druid or ranger in question. The complete list of nature deities is: (F=Faerϋnian Pantheon; E=Elf Pantheon; G=Gnome Pantheon; H=Halfling Pantheon; D=Dwarf Pantheon; M=Mulhorandi Pantheon; MM=Monster deity; EL=Elemental gods)
Chauntea, F --> Most powerful deity of Faerϋn, she gave birth to all life on the planet according to the creation myths Eldath, F Gwaeron Windstrom, F Lurue, F Malar, F Mielikki, F Nobanion, F Shiallia, F Silvanus, F Talona, F Talos, F Ubtao, F Ulutiu, F Umberlee, F Uthgar, F Anhur, M Isis, M Osiris, M Sebek, M Set, M Thard Harr, D Aerdrie Faenya, E Angharradh, E Deep Sashelas, E Rillifane Rallathil, E Baervan Wildwanderer, G Segojan Earthcaller, G Auril, F Fenmarel Mestarine, E Hiatea, MM (giants) Sekolah, MM (sahuagin) Stronmaus, MM (cloud giants, storm giants) Skerrit, MM (centaurs) Tapann, MM (korreds) Yeenoghu, MM (gnolls) Cyrrollalee, H Sheela Peryroyl, H Solonor Thelandira, E Talona, F Kossuth, EL Istishia, EL Grumbar, EL Akadi, EL
Additionally, rangers may receive divine spells from one of the following deities:
Shaundakul, F Tempus, F Garagos, F Marthammor Duin, D Corellon Larethian, E Shevarash, E Arvoreen, H
(I believe someone also added "Cyric" to the ranger list, due to some Cyric-worshipping rangers found in "Lords of Darkness")

Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 14:02:14 If fire is one of the four basic elements then they would get along fine based on that. I should say that it really does depend on personality and actions though. :) |
dwarvenranger |
Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 13:43:57 I suppose it would depend on the actions of the fire gensai. I mean if he torched the wild then the druid would probably not be happy, but if he used a flaming blade, kinda like the flame blade spell ironically, then I don't see how the druid could fault that. |

Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 12:22:44 Im my opinion Silvanus as he dogma's says see balance in everything, Fire and Water, and Life and Death. He says in the end that the fire must be purged but I don't see that in a way that any follower of Silvanus would hate someone who uses the fire. A follower of Silvanus would just be watchful to check if that "fire user" was not using it in a way that would do much damage to a woodland or forest. |
