Spoilers on Sembia and the Shade Enclave
Here is a DM/Player update on the 4th edition Realms. I have been very depressed about the changes in the FRCG; however, I recently got over it all by realizing the difference. I should love the old Realms for what it was and the new Realms for what it has. With that said here are a few things I would like to say about possibilities.
-The Shadovar have gathered a nice bit of information with the change to 4th edition. The Shadar-kai work nicely as a replacement to the Krinth (up to you how you explain it but the FRCG does cover it). The Shade template keeps a lot of the old Shade feel with shadow based defense, movement, and vulnerabilities. And yes, Shade regen like there is no tomorrow. 
-The Netherese occupation/domination of Sembia is full of intrigue. If you get a chance read about the need for the appearance of Sakkors from time to time in Sembia. The Fringe Grounds offer a bounty of possibilities for quests. Think Knights of Myth Drannor raiding Zhent caravans. Hey, there's a theme I could buy into! 
-The Shadovar have a multitude of enemies but a bucket full of spies everywhere. I can definitely see some Harper-like ( I did say like, not exact) spy vs. spy intrigue. The Netherese seem to be keen on expansion just as much as Thay but if you read up on the Twilight War books by Kemp you will see that the Shade do things thoroughly across the board. This means that a quest to defeat a Shade move into... the Dalelands would not only include a big battle for your PCs to fight in but also spy hunting missions, caravan raiding, spying on the Shade, winning over allies, and various other RP and combat heavy game mechanics.
Enjoy the New Realms for what it is folks. But never forget the old either.  Thank you for your time. |

I was just revealing some possibilities Rino. I know you love the old Realms as it was better in every way. My posting was one of me finally finding some inspiration to create a 4th edition quest with the new Realms. My players all want to work to recover lost things as it were. My best player loved his paladin of Tyr. He is now playing his PC's son as a character that was going to be a paladin of Tyr... Well, he was upset to say the least. But game on I say. I play both 3.5 and 4.0 Realms of late. |

I don't love the new Realms for what it has. As I said earlier, I have looked through the book, and I can tell that the current design team worked hard to change around the nature of the setting.
Sure, this new setting has potential, but what fictional setting has zero potential? |

I very much liked the concept of "Shadow caravans". |
