Anyone here going to Gencon UK?

I'm there for a few days and I'll probably try out the LFR if I can (even though I'm extremely against the changes for 4e).

Been too long since I went to Gencon UK.

So what was it like? plenty of games? mainly 4E or plenty of other editions? Tradehall any good etc? Guests of Honour?

Myself and t'other half went there for a few days. She does mostly LARP but managed to play some LFR (she told me that the LARPs were actually quite full this year for a change). I got into a few games of it myself, with a Elven Cleric of *cough* Kelemvor (a pew-pew cleric) who had a habit of asking people she had just met "So, friend, what do you think of Death?". It was fun, but it wasn't the Realms as we know it.

In general, as far as I could work out, the Tabletop games were mainly LFR with some Pathfinder, Dragonmouth and a few others. Numbers wise however, i think there were more tabletop games (and a wider variety) ran at Conception. I remember the glory days of Gencon UK round the millennium and this is quite a reversal.

The Tradehall was ok - although there were only about a dozen traders there, the usual culprits mainly, although each had big stands. But frankly, the RPG Industry in the UK is shrinking dramatically anyway, due to the recession.

Special guests, I know Colin Baker was the main one, but since the passing of Michael Sheard I haven't found myself getting worked up too much about special guests at conventions. At least Michael Sheard's drinking capacity was somewhat legendary.

The quality of food on site was lamentable, although the beer prices weren't (£1.90 for a Pint of Strongbow in the Student Union bar).

One thing I did see, but didn't take part in, was a Medieval Village that had a RL Dungeon Delve. My missus, who does Roman Reenactment said it looked quite authentic. And the fold-up chairs could be disguised easily enough by throwing enough furs/cloaks over them ;-)
