Posted - 08 Aug 2008 : 01:57:32 Just read another scroll about how the Harper got the shaft in 4$...I mean 4e....Here are my thoughts:
Damn, another old friend dies...and not a good death either. I know not all deaths are noble and worthy, but this is Bull$hine!! Note to all scribes if Mr. Baker or anyone else with Wotc says a group/faction/group of characters/city/region/god may be somewhat altered or tweaked..... start the tears right then. Because the only thing I understand about 4$...errr 4e is that there is no such thing a small, barely noticed change. 4e change is done with a chainsaw and a flamethrower that leaves only charred fragments that in no way resemble that which you loved before the change. Basically if the folks now calling the shots from their big boy chairs did are not responsible for something that was before the change, it will be nuked and recast in their image. The harpers: screwed The Chosen of Mystra: Screwed or soon to be screwed. Mystra: She was sooo screwed that she was killed in what most reasonable scribes think is ludacris since it happened in Dweomerheart, here she is at her most powerful. Helm: they wanted him out so bad he got killed by a blind old man(ok, he was a tough old bird) over a chick! Alustriel: I read she passed, but could not find the cause. Either I missed it or they realised they missed killing her 1st time around and killed her quick as they could and will worry about how later! Seems to me the parts of the realms Ed and the other Old guard loved best are being hit the hardest, but oh well.....that is exactly what I would do if I was executing a coup d'etat. I would strike down or write over everthing I could find by the old. Even better make up ridiculous ends for sme of the more popular so as to marginalize their sinificance to all who follow. ie, the aforementioned death of Mystra and Tyr killng Helm over a godesses affections If you didnt grow with those charsacters, reading their fates would make them seem to be a "good ridance" for all. As I re-read that last bit,I am really getting damn sick and tired of the way Ed's "babies' are getting the shaft. Mystra and her Chosen......Elminster as the new Halaster?
What is going on with the realms is not necessary change for health. It apperars to be a well planned and quickly executed surgical strike to re-create the Forgotten Realms into who knows what? We are finding out slowly, but surely. The die has been cast, I just wish they would reveal it to us , so we can move on with our lives and mourn our oldest, bestest friend.
The way they are revealing this new Realm$ piecemeal is what hurts the most....it lets us all drag on a bit farther down the road with wotc , hoping and praying that our friend will be alright in the end. We are being strung along with the hopes that at the end of the journey, even if we hate where we ended up and how we got there......we will stick around because it is the only place with (insert the one thing they left alomost itact that you like).
I am going to bed I have a headache and I don't see an end for it in sight.
But hey, remember change is good. And 4e is change, hope and points of light! |

Well, on Aug 19th, we can all find out (both those of us going to a store to read through and figure just how [insert expletive here]-up the 4e Realms really is, and those of us [foolishly, IMO] buying it blindly). I just hope that those who buy it blindly are not too terribly disappointed.
I've just got back from my holiday. It was great!
I've just seen the E-mails from my FLGS (which although very friendly is in London but there you go) in which they say $E FRCS is available for purchase. I hesitated for a few seconds then clicked delete. When news of a product is spread by Word of Mouth (and the Internet is ideal for such things), it's great when the news is saying good things. However, all I've heard about the $E FRCS is bad. |

Don't forget the tiny critters, like swarms of gnats that eat you alive. Here's a tip; take up smoking, it keeps the gnats at bay

I'm a heat-loving person, and Florida is reputed for having a plethora of wonderful flora and fauna to observe. Also, I've never been to the Florida coast before!

Rionalyrna, if you get a chance to eat at 30 Degree Blue, take it! I had some of the best scallops I've ever tasted there a couple of years ago--and they have a decent wine list, too. Liberally apply sunscreen!
Will do, and thanks for the tip! |

Ah, on August 19th, I'll be in utter paradise (Panama City Beach, Florida) and temporarily removed from all this recent silliness.

Posted - 08 Aug 2008 : 18:47:52 Whereas I've pre-ordered every 4E Forgotten Realms product (and most of the general 4th stuff--I made my own DM's screen and am using Ema's for character sheets until DDI comes fully online). Happily, as Glantir says, we all get to do what we like in our own campaigns.

I perfectly agree with you. I won't spend money for 4e and I won't include that Spellplague crap into my campaign. At least that's a thing which cheers me up a little: As a DM I rule supreme over my campaign and if I choose that some things never happen they simply won't . So WotC may kiss my hairy halfling feet and give 4e to the orcs |

Yes, I can see myself now, sitting at the Starbucks in the Barnes and Noble, getting more and more angry at the changes, but then I think "Well at least I didn't pay for this crap". |
