Posted - 21 Mar 2008 : 05:46:04 New player showed up to my campaign... Xeph male, level 20 Monk...
I want come up with a good backstory, but I can't seem to find anything on them Realms-wise. There's a nice article about Jaamdath and Elans, but nothing the way of the Xeph as far as I can tell...
Anyone knows about this race's involvement in the Realms? (canon or otherwise?) |

Posted - 22 Mar 2008 : 15:18:34 Here's what I went with: (first part about The Shaar is from Eytan on the WotC website; second part is my adaptation of the Xephs in the Realms) --------------------------
The Shaar An unusual event occurs every four years in the Shaar during the month of Eleasis. Each year, hundreds of people gather from all over the South (and beyond) to a massive dance in the central plains known as the Dance of the Shimmering Blades Attendants claim that the land calls to them, sending forth welcoming pulses of energy as an invitation to return to their roots. Prior to this time, Shaarmid swells with travelers making their way to this gathering. Almost all of the attendants have some form of psionic ability, though many have only the faintest wild talent, such as enhanced vision or a minor psi-like ability. Most of the attendees are wilders who feel the call most passionately, but others are drawn, never even knowing that they possess psychic gifts. All dance, eat, drink, and revel deep into the night for seven days, making lifelong friends and contemplating their own life's journeys. Members of numerous races, many of whom would not normally get along, are brought together by an unspoken bond. No one speaks of why they are there, but all feel a common connection. ====================== Cyrus was part of a gypsie-like clan of travelers who once roamed the Shaar. Human-like in appearance, no one ever questioned their origin, but the elders of the clan knew that they had moved here a few centuries ago via plane travel. He loved his clan and enjoyed the songs and dances of his people, but soon wanderlust, mixed with a certain taste for solitude, took him away from his people, and he started traveling solo more and more, alone into the wild. Cyrus became well known in his travels, and became a main organizer of the annual Dance of the Shimmering Blades Attendants, where he met many a friend. He also made many friends amongst the dwarves of the Great Rift and amongst the Loxo tribes of the Shaar. However, he felt most at home with the hin (halflings) of Luiren. So much in fact that he made that land into a semi-permanent retreat. Soon after his arrival, he was drawn into the study of the Hin Fist, and there he became a fast learner. He was soon teaching young hins under the title of "Master Cyrus", and he was content for many years, living in harmony and peace with the halflings of Luiren. One day, trouble came to the quiet hin village; under the form of powerful "heroes." The heroes were on a quest to destroy an evil sorcerer known to dabble mainly in the dark arts of Necromancy. The villagers were quick to boast the prowess of Master Cyrus, and the heroes demanded to meet the martial artist at once. Impressed by his work there in the village, they recruited him for this quest as an equal partner. As he left the halfling lands, Cyrus had a premonition that something was not the same. Him, who loved to travel so much, was now feeling a certain sadness at leaving the halfling lands he had lived in for more than 17 years now. His fears soon became reality. Not four months through this quest, they were faced by a group of evil adventurers that overmatched them all. He felt his life essence being sucked into a dark knight's sword, then nothing. [sword of life drinking] Now he awakes, centuries and centuries later. His services are requested by yet another bold group of adventurers... for similar motives. Will this be Cyrus' return to the grand roads of Faerun, or will this be another quick end at the hand of a supreme evil lord? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Posted - 22 Mar 2008 : 12:53:15 No, Lady K. Only illumians, raptorans and goliaths.
And Dragons of Faerūn mentioned the "blues".
Well, PDK, you could put the xeph as a planar traveller.
Or... a spelljammer traveller. |

Posted - 21 Mar 2008 : 23:56:39 I don't think there is any canon mention of them.
I would just say he travelled from another plane.
Or you could just as easily say there is a Xeph Kingdom on one of the uncharted landmasses of Toril |
