So, the servers over at WotC are acting very wonky, and the weekend guy was able to put in a 'patch' to at least keep things running until Monday. Unfortunetly, the patch causes a 10-12 second lag whenever you need to access a page.

I'm losing faith in the DI by the minute.

Supposedly, the problems ocurred when they tried to bring back the 'Search' function. Hmmmm... and they want to create an inter-active gaming site where millions of D&D players can meet and play online?

Yeah... and pigs fly...

And here I was thinking it stood for Dragon Interactive. So much for that idea...

They change the initials? Why wasn't I informed?

I guessed I missed the memo...

It stands for "Digital Initiative," and is what WotC was calling DDi (Dungeons and Dragons Insider, and no, I do not know why they use a lowercase "i"; and which is the online version of the Dungeon and Dragon magazines plus all the online goodies) before GenCon Indy '07.

That would probably be a good thing.

However, there are other parts of the DI, like web-hosting, that will also suck-up bandwith. I'm not sure if their servers are up to it.

It may be possible that the whole virtual tabletop and software stuff is handled by a third party software company (like Magic Online) and that Wizards doesn't actually do anything but set the schedule for new content being put on it.

Good, because for a while there I felt like I was in the movie Groundhog Day.

LOL...

In their defense, a tech had to drive into work on the weekend and 'patch things' up to get the site working properly, which helped with the problem but slowed things down to a crawl.

Within two hours of him doing that, everything was back to normal and working fine. I'm not sure if he got help, or if he just plodded through the mess single-handedly, but either way it restored some of my faith in their tech dept.

maybe the DI won't be as dismal a failure as I foresee...

Yeah, I kept getting the exact same pages for a day and a half. I couldn't modify or post or anything. I'd mark everything as read, then come back hours later and discover that everything was as it had been.

And I'm having a hard time deciding whether the gremlins would be chanting "onward and upward" or "onward and downward" as they marched over to the WotC servers.
