Posted - 19 Dec 2007 : 19:53:47 Hi everyone,
I'm looking for information on the goddess Lliira and her followers.
Thus far, here is what I've found.
What is presented in Faiths and Pantheons. What is presented here. http://nj-pbem.com/data/Gods/humangods/Lliira.htm I believe this is an excerpt from an older source, not sure which. Ed's 2007 response here. http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5812&whichpage=51 The Realmslore article featuring the Scarlet Mummers here. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rl/20061115a The Product Spotlight article featuring the Magic Item Compendium, which presents the Chime of Harmonic Agony. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ps/20070306a And lastly, a description of Selgaunt and many of the building within it. This is where Lliira's main temple is said to be. http://crpp0001.uqtr.ca/w4/MAPS/Faerun/Selgaunt.html
I'm looking specifically for information regarding the layout of the temple of Lliira in Selgaunt, and the details surrounding the life and death of Revelmistress (Rapturemistress?) Chlanna Asjros. When, where, and how she was slain, and the formation of the Scarlet Mummers.
Also, the information on Selgaunt mentions that Chlanna had a husband, Lord Jamblar Asjros. I'm not sure how (or if) that affected her relationship with Lliira. Perhaps he passed on before the Time of Troubles?
There seems to be a time jump of sorts. Some information describes Chlanna as being alive, and then it seems to jump ahead to after her death, leaving quite a blank... Did I miss something? A novel, perhaps?
Your thoughts and any further information would be great!

Posted - 21 Dec 2007 : 15:58:16 I've made the Joydancer specialty priest of Lliira into a Prestige class.
All who are interested can see it here. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=14638883#post14638883 |

Posted - 20 Dec 2007 : 20:44:01 Well, Faiths and Pantheons mentions Scarlet Mummers using blade boots, which are stated in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.
As for which class... They'd probably be a combination of the classes bard, cleric, fighter, and rogue. I imagine they all have ranks in Perform (dance). In the Realmslore article about them, they are described as "Most Mummers are lithe and athletic, even acrobatic, but Mummers can be of any class capable of devoutly worshipping Lliira."
Your idea, Ardashir, sounds like a good one. Priests (clerics) of Lliira were described as doing only nonlethal combat in older editions. The Scarlet Mummers seem to be the exception though. I believe this is largely in part to the designers saying something about how she is almost useless to adventurers (the nonlethal part), so its my theory the Scarlet Mummers might have been made to compensate for that...
I've listed some feats I think would be useful for both priests and Scarlet Mummers below.
Sacred Vow (exalted, serves as a prerequisite). Vow of Nonviolence (exalted). Nimbus of Light (exalted). Lliira's Blessing (exalted). Subduing Strike (allows dealing nonlethal damage with a melee weapon and sneak attacks). Two-Weapon Fighting (for blade boots, or unarmed strikes). Weapon Finesse (use Dex mod with blade boots or unarmed strikes). Dodge. Mobility. Spring Attack. Improved Unarmed Strike. Improved Trip. Improved Disarm. Combat Reflexes. Acrobatic. Agile. Athletic.
Lastly, there is a download that has made the "Joydancer" specialty priest of older editions into a Prestige class. http://www.ericlboyd.com/dnd/prestige_classes.html
I've thought about redesigning it to be a more exalted class, including Vow of Nonviolence, and such. |

Posted - 20 Dec 2007 : 17:09:31 Weird question: how would you recommend someone write up a character who is a Scarlet Mummer in game terms?
I ahd the idea of a cleric (of Lliira) with maybe some levels in rogue (for Tumble, Perform, etc.) and feats like Athletic and Improved Unarmed Strike, as well as Superior Unarmed Strike (from the Tome Of Battle) at a later point -- I always did get the idea that the Lliirans would be counted as martial artists by our standards, dong something on a level with savate or kickboxing.
Any other ideas? |

Posted - 19 Dec 2007 : 23:14:10 There isn't much more else on the Scarlet Mummers. Though, here's a little tidbit from Ed:- "Two lore tidbits: some Mummers use a single cut red rose as a signal or badge, and they have a fluid organization (no ‘set’ hierarchy) that “stands outside” church ranks."
There's a little bit about the Palace of Holy Festivals in Selgaunt in the Forgotten Realm Adventures tome. Not much anywhere else though. The same for Chlanna Asjros as well. There is a question pending for Eric to answer, as I recall, about Chlanna -- but that was from Nov. '06. I don't think Eric ever answered it.

Posted - 19 Dec 2007 : 21:42:43 Find a copy of the 2E book Faiths & Avatars. That book and its companions, Powers & Pantheons and Demihuman Deities, are the best published sources of lore on the deities that we've had. |
