Nowhere did ask if Elves and Shou like Stormriding,
Stormriding? I haven't heard that one before...Does it mean what I think it means?
Yes.
Oh how I wish I was a Harper who got sent to Shadowdale for training... |

Posted - 25 Oct 2007 : 21:38:08 The only thing I can think of that would be close to Shou & elven relations would be the reference in Darkvision that someone mentioned in another thread. Basically it showed one of Imaskar's emperors dealing with 7 Leshay. Other than that, I think the Elven cultures haven't proceeded too much past the Sunrise Mountains in Thay.... and those cultures closest to the Shou have tended to be more insular (until recently in the case of Aglarond). In fact, it might be that the Shou have had more interaction with the elves of Zakhara than the elves of Faerun. |

Posted - 25 Oct 2007 : 20:38:01 The ONLY true evidence of Elves I have found in K-T was the mention of the ones in - dare I say it? - Once around the Realms.
However, it seems to be the ONE place where the author truly tried to justify something. The god Monkey was OUTRAGED that Dragon Claw brought that particular group of Elves into K-T and trained them as Ninjas - he says something along the lines that it was 'breaking the rules' and 'unnatural'.
Of course, that doesn't mean Shou Expatriates don't encounter Elves all the time now in Thesk. In fact, I had a DMPC that was a Shou half-elf from that region. There are also the Elves of the Pleasant Valley Gateway Oasis that are practically on Shou Lung's doorstep, but I believe they are all Lythari, so Shou might think they are Hengeyokai instead of Spirit Folk.
And of course we have the Maraloi, which may or may not of been Fey/Elven, and are considered near-mythical by the folks of K-T anyway.
I like the idea that the Shou wouldn't think them all that different - in fact, except for the ears they may think they look more 'human' then other Westerners.

I like that angle a lot. If they think of them as Spirit Folk, they would make some correct assumptions about the individual but miss the entire race aspect. |

I know that many of the realms as you head east are uncomfortable with Elves, especially the old empires. But have the far eastern realms had any contact with them? I didn't see any references in GHotR that would indicate it. And, if not, would a typical Shou still display a cultural superiority when dealing with an outsider such as an elf?
My assumption is that any contact betwixt the Shou and the elves (outside of space, that is) has been quite limited; with it mostly being lone travelers or small groups.
Elves are not Shou, so I'd further assume that a Shou would display the same cultural biases to them that they would to any foreign human. I'll go further and say they might not even realize elves were a totally separate race. |

Posted - 24 Oct 2007 : 17:07:01 I too seem to remember reading somewhere (but for the life of me I could not tell you where) that they regard elves in the same way as spirit folk. |

Posted - 24 Oct 2007 : 00:28:43 I made myself perfectly clear. Nowhere did ask if Elves and Shou like Stormriding, or studying under the Sage of Shadowdale, or making the mythical beast with two backs.
Jeez people, grow up.
Though I suppose if there are many Half-Elves out there with a certain blend of features, that would answer my question. |

Do you realize that what you just said (especially in light of the topic title) could be a double entendre?

Posted - 23 Oct 2007 : 23:49:21 From what I've read, the Shou regard Elves the same way they view Spirit Folk. They have neither a particular like or dislike toward them...but regard them as nearly an elemental creature.
That is only off the top of my head though and with little looking up any facts on the subject. |
