In regard to any planned(or desired) changes or updates, I was just wondering what was the greatest hinderance? (No you cannot answer Wooly!! That would be way to easy.)
Would it be Time or Money? I was just curious because I have enjoyed this site so much that I want it to continue to prosper as it has. I have been thinking of some small ways to raise funds if some were required. Nothing extravagant, as much as I would like to I don't imagine I can scrape together enough to operate this library:) But, I did have a small idea that I was hoping some other scribes might like to do as well.
I know besides my Realms books, Tolkien, Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends: I have very few books that I will ever re-read. So, Saturday I am going to get a large box and fill it with my many tomes that are collecting dust and take them into my local book re-seller. With the proceeds going to the 'keep. I know it wont be "realms shaking", but if a few scribes would join me I am sure it would help!

Keep the books dude, donate another way. I have been collecrting realms lore for 20 years, the things that I did get rid of ( in my earlier years), I regret very much. (Ie. FR interactive atlas. worth hundreds now a days)
I have listend well to the replies in this scroll, and will be double checking to be sure I hold on to anything I would regret.
Thanks to all for their concern and comments.

Thanks for thy reply. I still plan on this, but so no one frets overly I am keeping what childhood books I still have along with the authors i listed before, and many other fine tomes. I have been something of a bookhound and have many to spare.
Alaundo just curious, any clue on operating costs? Or the difference between Present vs. with planned changes(and no Infinity , while valid is not likely!).
Thanks to all who have and will donate!
Well met
Many thanks again, Red Walker. This is very thoughtful indeed. I'll send a PM to discuss further. |

"Time" AND "money" are both factors which are constantly in short supply, i'm sure most will agree
Anyway, that's certainly very kind and thoughful of ye, Red Walker. Any contribution is greatfully accepted and will always go directly towards the running costs of Candlekeep.
I'd actually like to take this opportunity to thank those who donated recently, which helped greatly with the migration of the forums. Any donation means an great deal to me and is very touching, personally.
Back to your post... as Jorkens states, please don't do anything rash that you wish you hadn't in time to come. The category of books you list sounds great...surely tomes to treasure I'd hate to think you parted with these without being totally certain

"Sigh of relief" Well you are the one of the noble thoughts here Red Walker, not me.
I am rather relieved that you are not planning anything as drastic as your first post implied. You are talking to a person who is still trying to find the children's books and such that he as a very stupid teenager got rid of. I am also a person without any free space in the house any more, but that's beside the point.
Good luck, I hope you find them. I would help if i could , but I am assuming since I see your in Norway, that I most likely cannot find what you are looking for. |

Well met, Mace
Hmmmm. I just tried myself (I assume you're using the link at the bottom of the Home page?) and it displayed a Paypal form successfully. Did you get to this point or did it time out after filling in the form?
Many thanks. |

Sorry for jumping in, but as a book collector/lover I beg you to think very carefully before doing this. Don't do anything you will possibly in any way regret.
(Jorkens, always in a small state of panic at the thought of any of his books disappearing)
Don't be sorry. You thoughts are noble indeed! I always welcome "thread jumpers" most warmly. (Hence my fondness for Wooly? ) But, do not despair. I will not letting go of anything I would regret. (i.e. The works of Homer, Twain, Dumas, Hugo, HG Wells, etc.)
I just know that I (and most of us) have numerous books that were picked up for a plane ride or vacation or because it had a really great cover. Not that they aren't good enjoyable books. They just aren't great books or collectable to me. But, ones that others would enjoy reading once or want to add to their collection.
Mayhaps we need to figure out some way for that scribes to exchange books with each other. Like a thread were we could list what books we wanted to make available(for a donation to the keep and shipping maybe) this might only work for scribes who live close to each other, but maybe a good thing? Just a random Idea.
Any other ideas would be welcome here, I just want to find a way we can give back to Candlekeep that any who wished, could easily join in. |
