I am not sure if any mod's were aware but last night (12-3am EST)
the forums were really messed up. I couldn't log on as me but I was authorized to view private forums etc. which I didn't out of respect for your guys privacy. But I just wanted to let you know that that privacy was jeopardized... and I dont think I'm the only one to whom that happened.

Well met

Aye, it appears as though there have been a couple of server reboots for some reason. I've queried this with the host, so i'll let thee know what they say...if anything.

There was misbehavior again this afternoon... For about an hour, I kept getting variations on the same errors:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-4.1.15-standard]MySQL server has gone away
/inc_func_common.asp, line 1138

error '80004005'
/inc_func_common.asp, line 1138

error '80004005'
/inc_header.asp, line 134

I was amused, though, that there was a couple 1138 errors.

PhP can be just as finicky as ASP and most of the other forum software currently available. There's no guarantee that these errors won't occur under PhP because, as I said to Alaundo a while back, I've encountered them on other message boards that make use of PhP. Even the WotC boards have had occasional problems -- which is why they now need constant forum maintenance and upgrades.

Aghh Im taking Active Server Pages as my favoured enemy!

Is there any chance that Candlekeeps forums can be shifted to another language? (Preferably a less buggy one).

I notice Wizards forums use PhP........

And hang their slaughtered remains outside of Candlekeep as a warning to all other gremlins who would consider entering the library to cause further mischief.

We have one Mischief Maker here, and he's registered. That's enough.

Someone needs to slaughter the gremlins, that's all I'm saying. :)

Provider error '80004005'

Unspecified error

/inc_header.asp, line 134

Considering how little activity I've been seeing on the site the last couple of days, I'm afraid I'm not the only one experiencing these issues.

Well met

As I expected, the line of code in question here is a straight forward database open command. Likely the SQL server wasn't available at the time for some reason.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Well met

I can hopefully resolve this by performing a full recount of posts etc. However, it is quite time and processor intensive so i'll schedule it when I can find a good quiet time slot.

Ahh, I love those meaningful error messages I'll take a look at this shortly and see if it points to anything that we can investigate.

I'll check the server logs in the meantime to see if there is a known issue.

Aye... as did I.

Doing a little work on my own, I think this is, apparently, a server fault.
Kuje Posted - 06 Sep 2006 : 04:03:40
Ditto and then I got the to many connections error for a bit after the one that Wooly and Dargoth got.
Dargoth Posted - 06 Sep 2006 : 03:48:43
Over the last hour or so Ive had the same error Wooly had and our old friend ASP 013

When will Alaundo learn! a baseball bat is not a server tool!

Thanks for letting us know, Beirnadri Magranth. Indeed, the server move resulted in a loss of base variables, which simply had to be refreshed.

Indeed.

I remember that I "felt a great disturbance in the Web...as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I feared something terrible had happened."
