I was thinking that I can't remember when I first heard about this web site. It's like if it's always been there.

When was this website created? It's August 2002 the date? I took that date from Alaundo's member profile, by the way. Didn't knew where to look.

And it should also be pointed out to newer fans that the fact that we no longer have background music is a vaery good thing indeed.

For sure. Anyone know if it played on the forums? (or was it removed along with the addition of forums???)?

No. It played only on the main site itself.

Thanks Sage.
I wonder if it is playing in people's heads these days, which could explain the heated debates leading to numerous scroll lockings

If you're interested, you can download the old tune from the Shrine of Milil here at Candlekeep:- http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/milil/yewtree.mp3

*Casts Resurrect Scroll*

I remember seeing this site when it had the background music back in the late 90s. This place is over a decade old. I felt it appropriate to bump this thread to remind old scribes and inform newer scribes just how old this site is. Awesome!

But ion the list members the older ones, Alaundo, Tethtoril (Hail for him!), and Lord Rad (Hail to you Mylord Rad too!!!) are from August, in 2002. That's quite a year!!!!!

Well thank you, Thelonius It's certainly been a fantastic journey which started what seems so long ago now. Seen people come and go and i've learnt a VAST amount of knowledge about the Realms just from these forums.

Sadly, I don't get anywhere near the time to visit and participate as much as i'd like, these days Even so, i'll be here 'til they tear down the walls!

Well met

Well I did say it gives only some of the explanations, warlockco Tread down the wrong corridor, shirk from Realmslore duties, and who knows what may happen

Well met

Worry not, Thelonius. The said posts were test posts made when the forums were first opened, which were later removed (although the post count was not amended at the time). This would explain thy strange sightings, odd noises and mysterious happenings within the halls of Candlekeep Well, some of them anyway

Redesign? Why? In all seriousness, I love the way it looks at the moment. Only thing that needs changing is removing that annoying tu...oh you did it quite a while back? Never mind then, move along, nothing to see here.

Well met

Thank ye, Kajahase Nevertheless, a redesign is long overdue. Firstly to cut down on the site of the static content and have much of the material accessed dynamically. This would help a great deal with maintenance of Candlekeep as well as speed up the access and navigation of articles.

Anyway, I can ramble all day about improvements but there are Realmslore tasks to be done

Man, I was barely online when this site launched... The extent of my Realms-related surfing was checking the Wizards site once a week or so...

Quite correct, Thelonius. Indeed the actual launch of the site was back in March 1999. Arivia's investigations are also correct, with the forums opening in July 2001.

That explains why I felt like the site has been always on. My interest with the Realms returned when my group started a new Realms campaign back in 2000 using 2nd edition rules. Then came the switch to 3rd edition and a general surge in interest with Faerûn.

And while I also think that a redesign would be nice, I'm with Thelonius in thinking that this site has certain old-times charm.

Nah, I don't think so alaundo, remember, there is nothing like the old times!!!

Sadly, time constraints have meant that the site is really looking its age, although a complete redesign is high on my list of things to do.

The actual mainsite itself has been active since the late 90's as I recall. That FTP and google cache which holds all the early Candlekeep.com material proves that.

The forums came later -- between 2001 to 2002. Although I remember Alaundo saying something about the code for the forums being active since 2000.
Arivia Posted - 09 Oct 2005 : 04:15:53
This says the forums have been around 25 July 2001, but the site's probably older.
