There are quite a lot of members on the forum now, most of whom appear to be posting under an invented name. I just wondered, where did these names come from? In my case:

Kriss KaH'onen

Kriss was a half-elf mage I used in a Dragonlance campaign a while back. I played him almost every weekend for about 5 years at the end of which he retired as 13th level. He's particularly memorable to me as I normally DM and hadn't actually played a PC for about 15 years.

One of the best sessions of the campaign was The Night of the Eye - a rare event on Krynn when all 3 moons are in conjunction (white outer, red inner, black centre looking like an evil eye). Kriss chose that night to marry Verora, a female human mage in the party. Verora had been raised by a Minotaur Mage who had become a very close friend of the Emperor (another Minotaur). To everyone's surprise the Emperor turned up at the wedding. Kriss was never one to back down from a difficult situation or miss an opportunity to impress so went for the suck-up big style. Unfortunately I rolled a 1 for the Diplomacy check and the rest, as they say, is history. It didn't really help that Verora was played by the DM's wife - it was doomed to failure from the start.

It's a shame Dragonlance wasn't more detailed with more published material - it comes a very close second to The Forgotten Realms for enjoyment.

Incidentally, a bit of advice:

If ever you organise a banquet on Krynn and there is the slightest chance that Minotaurs might attend, don't have beef on the menu.

Interesting.

Dolores, BTW, is a common name here in the Philippines. Given our history, not a surprise at all.

Dalor Nal'Raesik Darden...old name in use now for nearly thirty years.

Dalor is actually a made up (by me) male version of Dalores (from the Spanish Dolores)...which is a female name meaning "Sorrows" because of a near death by Dalor's mother at his birth...his father named him Dalor.

Darden is an English surname that is originally derived from Celtic/French roots...meaning (in French) "From Ardennes"; but having older Celtic roots from the word Ardu; which means "High Land" or "High Forest"...and so I thought it would be a fitting "Noble" Surname for a Wizard from a noble family.

Thus came to be Dalor Darden the ILLUSIONIST. Only later did he become a Wizard who focused on war magics when he went to war for the Empire of Alphatia into which he was born.

His middle "name" simply means Son of Raesik...and was entirely invented by me at the time of character creation because I wanted his initials to be:

D.N.D.
Mr_Miscellany Posted - 05 Jan 2011 : 16:23:25
My name originated from reading Schott's Miscellany around the time a new user name became necessary.

Schott's books of miscellaneous information seemed to fit the idea of talking and reading about bits and pieces of Realmslore online and the "Mr" had a nice ring of alliteration when matched with "miscellany".
Diffan Posted - 05 Jan 2011 : 10:43:37
A buddy of mine actually inspired me to use this name, my RL last name is Diffendal. So when he and I were at a store (Rite-Aid i believe) I was swinging around this wiffle-ball bat like a sword (I was 12, so gimme a break ) and he said I was like "Conan" but instead said "Diffan, the Barbarian" and it sorta stuck.
Quale Posted - 04 Jan 2011 : 09:39:14
Lol, from asoiaf I'd pick Giantsbane or Jaqen.

Quale was my npc from Chondath at the time I registered. The npc was a Sensate, based on this philosophy.
Knight of the Gate Posted - 04 Jan 2011 : 06:22:36
I actually used KotG simply b/c it is my username on the *A Song of Ice and Fire* forums I spent the most time on when I created my CK account; I didn't want to have to remember 2 different log-ins!
If you've read the aSoIaF series, you'll be familiar with Ser Brynden Tulley (a.k.a. 'The Blackfish'). He remains the character I most respect in the series, and his title when he served his brother-in-law in the Vale was; 'The Knight of the Bloody Gate', often referred to simply as the Knight of the Gate.
Also, I didn't want to be the 1001st guy to try to register as 'Blackstaff'!

Incidentally, Dennis is not only the name of my favorite anime character, but of my ex as well---ironically, he's my least favorite of my exes.

It's fraught with interesting characters---heroes and villains alike. I find the villains' "varied" goals interesting and strong enough to drive the story.

The transformations of the 4 main characters (except Alfred, of course), was well executed. Vincent's being less emo towards the end was a refreshing thing to behold...I couldn't remember feeling more excited seeing my favorite character literally transform than I did Dennis in his fight with Karasu.

The love story of Eugene and Jenny was irritating at first, but it got a bit of sense towards the Toguro Arc.

The three movies are also good. Though I'd much like it if they also made one about the Three Lords. There's much about Yomi and Mokoro that needs more exposure...

It was one of the movies I saw, and it was enough to keep me from wanting to see anything else.

Not too many people here have names from anime/manga... (See how I did that? )

I saw that one... Hated it. I thought it had much potential that was never realized.

Did you finish it? Till the Three Lords (Raisen, Yomi, Mokoro) Arc?
Alisttair Posted - 03 Jan 2011 : 12:28:26
Hmm, well Alisttair is just a name I came up with for a wizard character once and it stuck (it's the name of my 4E character in one of my campaigns, who is a wizard of course).

Xysma Posted - 25 May 2005 : 17:02:13
I've overlooked this thread thus far, but here goes... Xysma (pronounced Ziss-ma)is my pyromaniac Tiefling Fighter4/Rogue4/Cleric of Kossuth6/Fire Archon3 that I have been playing for the past few years. He is an incredibly fun character to play, and he's worked his way into my subconscious, his name pops up everywhere.
Chosen of Moradin Posted - 13 May 2005 : 21:05:14
Well, generally I use the nick Hammer of Moradin in brazilian foruns. I really like of this prestige class, my "dwarf inside" give some jumps when I see it in the PGtF... but when I finally discover the Candlekeep (a good work diging the net), I try this nick, and discover that one northern cousin already was using it. So, I stay with Chosen of Moradin.

I like too much to roleplay dwarves, they are my favorite character race, Gimli was my favorite LotR character, Bruenor too, in "that not so loved elf" books, my first character was a dwarf fighter, and so on

And just to make an amend, I love that "not so loved elf", I only have the same opinion of some of the fellow scribes: the spotlights are all the time upon him...
webmanus Posted - 13 May 2005 : 19:43:06
Hi folks!

I needed sometime ago a username that I could use in as many places as possible, and webmanus came to my mind. When I was a boy, I called myself for 'manus'; in English ... MS (?) or maybe 'manuscript'. And I added web, because I am out here, in the World Wide Web, thus 'webmanus'.

Best regards,
Manuel
Rudar Dimble Posted - 01 May 2005 : 13:29:24
Rudar Dimble is a gnome conjurer who I once played in a online story hour campaign. Rudar resembles my real name (Ruud) and Dimble just fitted nicely with it. I use the name on different kinds of (RPG) forums, including this one.
Shadovar Posted - 20 Apr 2005 : 02:59:49
For me, I admired the military and magical prowess of Shade Enclave especially their Shadow Magic and black glass weapons which all re very unique. Hence, I took up the nmae of Shadovar which meant 'someone who is from Shade Enclave'. Sounds odd or funny, yes I know. *chuckles*
TymoraChosen Posted - 20 Apr 2005 : 02:56:17
Well I just like to be lucky and reckless so I heard that Tymora priests and followers always say "Fortune favors the bold and so they throw caution and advice into the wind as they go about their work. That suits me so I heard that there are Chosen of Mystra so well I just combined a few words to get 'TymoraChosen' name out.
Rhezarnos Posted - 19 Apr 2005 : 05:41:24
Another overlooked topic... Really need to get glasses
My nick comes from well, my character's (more like characters') last name. Played many characters, but all had the same last name: Rhezarnos. Why? I don't know, it sticks. So I thought "What the heck, use it here too"
If you're looking for the meaning, Rhezarnos means outcast among outcast, belongs nowhere, abomination of creation. You get the drift.

Hrm, nothing spectacular here either. I just used the shortened version of my real name. Well, that and I look nothing like my avatar, but what can I say, I was too lazy to find something that looked like me.

Well, in real life, I look nothing like my avatar, either. Except maybe for the goofy grin...

Well, I see my avatar as a reflection of what my future self will be like after many more years of studying Realmslore.

Although, now that I think about it, I'm almost part the way there now. I love my fluffly and flowing beard... .
Weiser_Cain Posted - 18 Apr 2005 : 08:19:49
The truth? Well it's a pen name. I had a great idea to do a comic with more than a little pornografic elements in it and didn't want to besmirch my good name(chuckles). So I made up a good name for a deviant that said 'me' without saying it was me. Plus would look good scrawled on the bottom of a t-shirt.
So anyway I write and storyboard the thing and by the third issue I discover much to my dismay that writing about sex is boring! It became real work to finish the series(just one story arc mind you). But by then I'd lost the fire in my gut to do up the finished artwork and script.

Mine is from the Swashbuckler I played in our ongoing campaign. By playing I mean that I'm in the US right now so I can't play with the others, who are in Sweden.
Too bad Tanyn fell in battle in the last session
He will be raised as a revenant to attack his former comrades in their final showdown against a Cyrisist

Well I joined a club for Star Wars Xwing vs TIE Fighter online. They were consolidating the roster for logins to the site and wanted people using the same callsign to change. So I couldn't figure out what to change it to, then I remembered there was those two brothers in Magic the Gathering, so I picked Urza (this was before the novels or expansion sets with novel tie-ins.) Just when Urza and Mishra were cool parts of the flavored text on the first 4 sets. So I vary between Urza or Urza, depending on if someone is using Urza.

I use SirUrza here because that's what I used on Wizards.Com and that's how people know me. :)
