Posted - 11 Nov 2006 : 05:32:38 My last campaign (evil PCs working for the return of the Shadow thieves in Waterdeep) was ended (before the actual planned end) in August because of logistic problems so I'm starting a solo campaign with my girlfriend.
Again in Waterdeep, the only part of FR she's used too; after she decided to go with a elven wizard and a halfling rogue, I chose "Humans are fools" as the overall theme. I will add to her party 2 NPCs that will change over the campaign, the first too ones are a dwarf cleric (Brightmantle) and a half-orc barbarian. (They are all CG).
The first adventure will be a chase after a Homunculus that is trying to get back to his dispaspeared master (a gnome wizard that just hired the party for some mundane tasks). The adventure will begin when they discover that the little critter has entered the Yawning Portal
All kind of comments are welcome. I'll post some ideas/NPCs and other stuff here over time.

And what about the humunculus' wizards? Is he the noble or one of the human youngsters? Or even the wizard from Halasters heirs?
The humunculus belongs to the disaspeared gnome wizard (see OP.) His master was abucted and imprisoned on the first level after he discovered some trouble made by some Halaster's heirs / Red wizards (not sure at this time) members.
At this time, my idea was about one of those (or both) group making trouble with important magical components (for spells, spell research, magical items, etc.) The first thing that will be looked at by the PCs will be the murder of some aquatic elves / merfolks that are important pearls (Identify) traders.

Homunculus? Yawning Portal? You could sow some nice seeds there for the Undermountain Adventure Madgoth´s Castle(2E) if you so wish. Which is still available as a free download, if I´m not mistaken (in case you don´t have it already).
I'll look at Madgoth's castle. Thanks.
This little first expedition to Undermoutain with 1th level characters is there to show her that "dungeon crawl" can be more than "hack&slash&getloot".
Of course, she will met some young humans fools on their first (and last) trip down there
Anyway, the first rooms around the Well aren't filled with horrible creatures... Maybe some worshipers/orcs from House of Pain and a wizard from Halaster's heirs doing some experiments.. and of course a young noble in a perilious situation

Ooh, ooh! I get to post the link!
The proper name of the module is Dungeon Crawl: Undermountain -- Maddgoth's Castle, and it is indeed freely available from the Wizards downloads page. |

Posted - 13 Nov 2006 : 09:15:53 Great! The Yawning Portal. That leads to the thought that the Undermountain is not too far off in some or the next sessions that will follow.
But isn't it a little too dangerous to enter Undermountain all by yourself (as migfht be the case in a solo campaign)? |
