Aumliagor III
(Male Gold Elf, Sorceror 17/ Ultimate Magus 8/Elven High Mage 1)

Just wondering how he became an Ultimate Magus without levels in an arcane preparation-based casting class. It specifically states the need for it to use a spellbook, so Arcane Preparation won't cut it.

Recent Events Timeline
(Thanks to Dargoth and his thread, http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7930 for some dates)

6 Alturiak, 1372- Daerphlannar is made aware of the Return of Shade.
13 Alturiak "" - Through mundane networking of informants throughout the region, relatives of House Oridrath begin to suspect the Phaerimm assault of Evereska to be related to the return of Shade.
15 Alturiak "" - Daerphlannar meets with Torynnar in a secret grotto in the woods under where Myth Adofhaer once stood. Accessible only through the magic of a Crossroad linked at only three other seemingly random locations throughout the high forest, the grotto is little more than a suite of cramped but empty studies separated by a lattice of meshed roots and vines that chase after the nourishing glow of magical phosphorescent mushrooms that grow deep in the cracks between the bricks that once made up a floor. They discuss recent events and exchange information. After presenting Torrynar with a gift of precious gems, he resigns from the Eldreth Veluuthra to more deeply concentrate on the events that are exploding around them. This begins a closer friendship between the long standing rivals.
3 Ches, 1372 - Daerphlannar moves into a temporary abode in the deeper recesses of the abandoned lair of Irdrithkryn (slain after ambushing Klauth in 1360, which Daerphlannar found out about only a few days later). He had initially found the gems from Onthrilaenthor here, once part of Irdrithkryn's hoard. Overlooked by the victorious Klauth maybe because they bear him no historic significance and maybe because of the divination-negating wards left over in the smaller pits and burrows, Daerphlannar set up a small safehouse here for later use back in late 1370. From this location in the Graypeak Mountains he can more easily survey the situation with Evermeet and the Phaerimm.
Kythorn, 1372 - Daerphlannar and two great nephews enter Evereska. With the mythal damaged, the spells that bar his lineage from entering the city are negated. Knowing their time there is limited, the mages setup sensors and befriend locals in order to gain more informants within the city.
21 Eleasis, 1372 - A nephew who remained behind in Evereska is killed by the restoration of the mythal and the confliction with his presence the magic he was workign at the time and the resurgence of the magic against his blood.
Marpenoth, 1372 - Daerphlannar resigns himself to the Weathercote Woods. He tries to use the ruins of some ancient settlement to explore aunuroch and netherese ruins searching for clues to the recent return of Shade. He grows frustrated by the constant harassment by miscellaneous monsters and the distance to the ruins he really needs to look into.
5 Nightal, 1372 - Linked through mysterious portals, Daerphlannar finds himself in an abandoned watchtower in the middle of the north. Unable to activate the broken portals in the lower levels he takes off and wanders the north for the next year, all the while keeping in contact with his family in the tower of Silverwoods.
17 Alturiak, 1374 - Torynnar and Daerphlannar meet in the tower in the Silverwoods. Received with a grand feast and ceremony the pair discuss principles of tieflingism and the feyri. By Alturiak 19, Daerphlannar convinces the lich that the Eldreth Veluuthra would be weakened by tainted blood and that they would take a negative position towards the Dlardrageths. They split up to investigate the occurences in the southern high forest.
Ches and Taraskh, 1374 - Caelindrel the last family member of any power leaves Daerphlannar's tower with a couple of other distant relations to aid the fight in retaking Myth Glaurach. Several minor magical items like wands and trinkets of abjuration are given as blessings to the group. Caelindrel is the only survivor of the battles.
22 Mirtul, 1374 - Caelindrel convinces the Crusade's officers to allow her to stay behind with the group watching over Myth Glaurach's ruins.
6 Eleasis, 1374 - Most remaining watcher's are called to the crusade following a surprise attack on the main encampment the day before. Caelindrel stays behind with only a handful of others, awaiting reinforcement from adventurers from Silverymoon and servants of Turlang and emissaries of the Caerilcarn.
7 Eleasis, 1374 - Daerphlannar visits Myth Glaurach. Discovering the ruins of his families' estate, he gives Caelindrel (wizard 2, scout 1) the task of making sure their families' land is restored if Myth Glaurach is resettled.
8 Eleasis, 1374 - Daerphlannar accidentally uncovers and then battles an elven mummy. He finds a large amount of historic notes with the remains of the mummy. He eventually returns to Silverwood to recover.
Marpenoth, 1374 - After finishing study of the notes taken from Myth Glaurach, Daerphlannar finishes designs to build a Staff of Siluvanede.
29 Uktar, 1374 - Torynnar quickly summons Daerphlannar to a meeting in a vault somewhere in the Serpent Hills. He reveals that something eventful is about to occur but he can't figure out what.
29-30 Uktar, 1374 - Torynnar is ambushed by a group of Harpers. They belong to the sect known as the Moonstars and they manage to break apart the necklace studded with the gems from Onthrilaenthor. Managing to steal 2 of the gems entirely the rest of the band is slain by the lich. Daerphlannar makes his way to Silverymoon and is waylaid by a group of human mercenaries. After dispatching them he seeks to gain entrance to the city proper. He is again ambushed in early dawn right before the city gates by a group of powerful spellcasters and he retreats, wounded, to his tower.

Staff of Siluvanede
This heavy staff is made out of the carved thick branch of a Blue Leaf tree. The natural growths in the piece are worked into a masterful carving of historic figures, prominent during the time of the Siluvanedenn kingdom. However none of the artistry is clearly shown- for the staff is coated in a thick layer of gold. Regal elven forms are distorted under the metal coating, appearing gnarled and disfigured... even slightly demonic.
The interior wood, under divination, seems to be millenia old. In fact the wooden staff belonged to a High Mage in ancient times. Centuries maybe millenia later the staff, drained of charges, was coated in a ghastly way. The carnal decadence of the gold was infused with infernal power. The staff is recharged or perhaps charged with a different power for the abilities it contains are awful indeed.

Abilities:
  • Body of the Sun (SC)
  • Miser's Envy (SC)
  • Fiendform (SC)
  • Soul's Treasure Lost (BOVD) [3 charges]
  • Nar Fiendbond (LEoF) [3 charges, maximum 2HD target only]

Special: If held by a Gold Elf with at least 1 arcane caster level, the maximum HD of the target of Nar Fiendbond is 4. If the wielder is equipped with a 'Golden Orb of Siluvanede' and uses the Nar Fiendbond ability s/he can opt to expend the orb's power for that day and reduce the charge cost by 1. A wielder targeting a creature with up to half of the maximum, need only pay 2 charges to affect the Nar Fiendbond.
Boring examples: a Sun Elf male fighter5/wiz1 can use the staff's Nar fiendbond ability on a Moon Elf female exp2. This use drains 1 charge (2charges for the normal 1/2HD target and -1 for sun elf arcane caster lvl.) The same staff ability later used by a male Moon Elf rog9 with a successful use magic device check on a locathah (2HD) drains 3 charges. The same staff ability later used by a male Moon Elf Wiz10 in possession of a Golden Orb of Siluvanede on a poor little dwarf female com1 drains 1 charge (2charges normal and -1 for using up the Orb's daily ability).

The original staves within were recycled after they failed to protect Siluvanede from the wrath of Shaarven and Eaerlann. These staves were coated with this precious material and left as an awful trap for the Moon Elves to find in their ruins. Each staff was re-enchanted with foul magic of corruption. One such staff was uncovered immediately after the Seven Citadel's war and after being used experimentally with disastrous consequences the elves never touched the staff again, locking it deep with secret vaults. Only thrice since have these staves been uncovered and mostly by innocent adventurers too. Reportedly the gold melts away in a gruesome pattern as charges are used up eventually dripping away into nothingness and exposing the true history of the Siluvanedenn kingdom engraved along the shaft of the wood.
The last staff to be found was picked up by a band of humans. After nearly killing each other over greed and lust for each other's treasure, they were approached by a mysterious Baelnorn who wanted to study the valuable lore carved into the original staff. Unfortunately that could only be found after the sinister properties of the staff had been activated.

Market Price: 155,089gp or Cost to Create: CL 15th, Craft Staff, spells; Body of the Sun, Miser's Envy, Fiendform, Soul's Treasure Lost, Nar Fiendbond. 48,379gp and 19,202xp. Caster must be a Sun Elf with any evil alignment and at least either 4 ranks in knowledge local: the High Forest or 8 ranks in knowledge history.
Strong Transmutation CL15th.

House Oridrath

In the ancient days of the High Forest a kingdom arose. Proud sun elves strode the north western woods and built great settlements and cities. There were some who did not live among the graceful towers and soaring canopies and that is where the story of House Oridrath begins...

In the deep glades springs trickle forth with pure water and the forest streams carry it along the roots of magical trees, potent herbs and across mossy patches full of fey minerals. It is the pristine majesty of these waters that attracted a small group of these common Siluvanedenn fair folk. They spent their time contemplating by the banks of these small rivers and had the idea of making use of them. They wandered through mists and undergrowth in search of the most delicate flowers, oils and herbs. They trecked this gorgeous wilderness and experimented for many decades.

Having come upon a terrific combination of scents the four took their perfumes to the high houses of the kingdom. The maidens of the land were overtaken with the aroma and would send forth porters to keep them in constant supply. These four sun elves grew quite rich off of their successful ware and soon moved into the cities and treetop communities. They had crafted large manors and retreats to their fancy and whim and began to endulge themselves on these fancies never seen by their simple kind before. Soon enough each had his bride and spouse and, through these noble daughters' blood, gained rank and station. Master Ambrosial and other such frivolous titles were bestowed and the four very well fancied themselves as new nobles.

However, Siluvanede was brimming with would be nobles and vain glorious people and they were not granted the one thing the desired... a title. The four had spent most of their lives together and were closer than any kin so they devised a plan.
Each child of the four would marry another and link their families and their blood together in an unbreakable way. Time was not an issue for the four who had been trained in patience in the dells of the woods, waiting for certain blossoms to bloom or bulbs to rise. After several centuries the plan was complete and the progeny of each was irrevocably intertwined. This completed the necessary rites for the granting of status and by the time it was awarded the four were as rich as most of the nobles whose rank they earned.

c. 0DR Eahernine withdraws from wizard colleges and begins to study only from family libraries and vaults.
c.100 Earhenine binds Slorgoth into servitude and rescinds her part of the pact. Aum'Havernius, Earhenine's son, is accepted into several wizard colleges.
126 Earhernine offends a High Mage of Lothen and is challenged to a wizard duel. She champions over him and is accepted as an apprentice High Mage.

345 Aum'Havernius locates the remains of his aunt, Sendmira, within the crypts beneath the temple of Labelas Enoreth in Mhilamniir. He manages to remove them without notice and takes them back to the Lothen Household.
346 Aum'Havernius resurrects Sendmira. Enraged she destroys her nephew in a spell battle. She seems to be driven insane by the ordeal and by the corrupting influence of the bound fiends in the lower levels of the complex. She assumes the identity of Havernius' wife, Riah. She propogates the myth that Havernius is killed in a magical experiment.
348 El'yatel returns to Lothen and assumes the position of authority over the house.
362 Earhenine returns to Lothen to teach magic to El'yatel who also joins a local wizard college.
370 "Riah" reveals herself to Earhenine and the two begin a new tenuous relationship.
c.400 "Riah" is seduced by fiendish influence of the house and her sister. El'yatel seduces three elven maidens. They are invited to live at the estate in Lothen.
423 El'yatel Performs a heinous ritual aided by his mother that combines the souls of the three maidens. He completely alters their memory and their entire conciousness. Virnithree, as the creature is called becomes fascinated with cloning and polymorphing magic. She becomes the lover and apprentice of El'yatel.
c.450 "Riah" and Virnithree secretly undergro a magical rite that binds them together with a spiritual link.
c.500 Earhenine begins her last quest in life, to retrieve the service of the fiend Neshnatel. "Riah" tries to undermine her sister's work and claim the demon for herself.
543 Virnithree travels to a far off woods (the Yuirwood) and enslaves several dryads for use in terrible experiments.
556 Virnithree returns to Lothen. She is apprehended by vigilant clerics of Corellon Larethian and exposed for the vile creature that is. Through quick pacts and high magic Virnithree is not found to be affiliated with House Oridrath under divine interrogation, to the dismay of the confident nemesis, House Kaerliithar.
557 Virnithree is executed for treason. Earhenine steals the soul of the wicked abomination and stores it within herself to avoid its detection and subsequent questioning by rivals.
559 Earhenine and El'yatel attempt to conjure Neshnatel and fail.
560 "Riah" agrees to participate in the summoning. The three spellcasters call upon all their ties to the blood of Rastilymiech even involving distant relatives who reside in the Lothen Estate in the ritual. Neshnatel appears but proves too powerful to subjugate. However, the house needs an heir so the ancient sister Earhenine releases the twisted essence of Virnithree and the pure souls of her captive dryads as payment to the demon. "Riah" becomes heavy with child.
c.570 Several house guards and lesser blooded relatives are assassinated within the complex. Fearing discovery of their practices the House is closed and warded. House Oridrath relocates to Ascalhorn.
c.580 El'yatel abandons his apprenticeship to his mother and returns to Lothen. "Riah" adopts the identity of 'Sendra' an elven cleric from Evermeet.
590 Earhenine over exerts herself while aiding in the raising of Myth Glaurach and passes on to Arvandor. This 'martyrdom' gains massive amounts of support for House Oridrath among the Eaerlanni elite.
592 Earhenine's "daughter-out-of-wedlock, Sendra", is granted title in Myth Glaurach as well. This cements the ancient house's power in the Earlanni Kingdom.
c. 600 'Sendra' takes in skilled wizards and raises them as her own, often giving them false identities as her nephews and other relatives. She founds her own wizard's guild in Myth Glaurach and asigns powerful roles to members of her new House Oridrathearhine.
c. 630 El'yatel Begins the study of High Magic
c. 650 El'yatel's new wife Murel'yr gives birth to a son (quite a feat at her age) 'Sendra' gives up her priestly studies for dabbling in The Art.
c. 670 El'yatel Abandons study of High Magic and changes focus to elemental magic.
703 'Sendra' passes on to Arvandor. Her ambitious 'nephew', Darimius "Shadeflower" assumes position as head of the house in Myth Glaurach.
704 Darimius is slain by "errant magic" during mundane practice in his wizard's guild. His "brother", Nimrial, who was present during his 'accident' takes control of the house.
c.730 El'yatel leaves Lothen for Evermeet to resume his study of High Magic.
His ambitious son Faerimyr enchants a wealthy elf and takes her as his bride.
c. 740 Even though she is a significant amount older than him, Faerimyr's wife bears two daughters and a son.
c. 750 El'yatel returns to Lothen because he was rejected as a candidate for High Magic at a prestigious tower in Evermeet. After two years in Lothen, the elf begins a journey across the planes. This depletes a large amount of resources from the treasury of the house.
803 Faerimyr pressures Nimrial (by now a powerful wizard) to swear oaths of fealty and servitude to the original house.
804 Murel'yr disappears.
805 Powerful noble families demand an investigation on House Oridrath by clerics of the Seldarine.
810 Murel'yr is located and slain by servants of Neshnatel by orders of Faerimyr. Two powerful druids arrive at the estate of House Oridrath with a score of angry priests and nobles demanding entrance. El'yatel immediately and dramatically returns convincing the mob to return to their houses.
813 El'yatel becomes an influential member of the council that sought to investigate his house. Future investigations are made fruitless.
817 Nimrial sends a phantom assassin to kill Carinie the wife of Faerimyr. The plan is foiled by the wizardry of El'yatel.
826 Nimrial is found in the streets of Myth Glaurach completely succumb to madness. He is taken by his "grandniece" back to their complex where he is pronounced dead. Rihenine, the wizardess "grandniece", succeeds Nimrial.
c.840 Faerimyr threatens Rihenine with destruction and disjunction from the original house if it refuses to declare itself a vassal.
851 Rihenine refuses and pays popular performers to publicly mock Faerimyr, his wife and house in public. Faerimyr responds by sending demons after Rihenine's real family. Members of her actual biological family living in a small town in the Southern High Forest are all gruesomely devoured by 'monsters'.
852 El'yatel pens a contract to be signed by Rihenine, detailing the turning over of property and title to House Oridrath proper and has it sent to her complex in Myth Glaurach. Rihenine does not respond.
853 Faerimyr and Carinie arrive in Myth Glaurach to witness a demonstration by Rihenine's wizards guild. Festivities and gala's last for nearly a week. At the end of this time Faerimyr breaches the house complex of Rihenine. Rihenine "passes on to Arvandor" on the last day of festivities. Faerimyr returns to Lothen to find his daughters and son cruelly dismembered in the private rooms of their estate. Many wards had been breached and scores of demonling guards were released or slain.
858 With no successful heir to the house, the compound in Myth Glaurach is turned over to House Oridrath. This gift is awarded during a ceremony marking the 900th birthday of Lord El'yatel.
864 Myth Glaurach is sacked by orcs! In just 6 short years House Oridrath fell from one of the most powerful in Lothen if not in Eaerlann at that time to near devastation.
c.884 House Oridrath abandons Lothen, fleeing from the disaster of Hellgate Keep, and joins El'yatel in Evereska. Carinie perishes during the journey and is resurrected when the family reaches Evereska. The powerful demon Neshnatel was abandoned in the crypts of the Lothen household. Slorgoth is freed and joins the house in evereska. Powerful enchantments inhibit communication between the fiend and the members of the house but he remains a subjugated slave nonetheless.
923 21 of Nightal, Faerimyr attempts to usurp power from El'yatel (who seems to never age) and is slain in a duel. His soul is fed to demons and he is utterly destroyed.
924 In order to retain an heir to the house, El'yatel magically inseminates Carinie. She gives birth to a boy who is believed to be the son of the deceased Faerimyr.
c.1000 Carinie marries into a particularly rich sun elf clan. She has several children with her new husband.
1041 Daerphlaennar, the son of El'yatel and Carinie, is appointed House Watcher and sent to investigate old family ruins and gather information about current events in those locations.
c.1050 Daerphlaennar studies history and magic at Silverymoon. He remains unaware of his families ties to infernalism.
1109 Daerphlaennar is forced to retreat from the Battle of Many Arrows. He returns to Evereska.
c.1110 El'yatel begins instructing Daerphlaennar in superior ways of The Art.
1116 Daerphlaennar is chosen to join the ranks of a prestigious mage acadamy in Evereska over his cousins and step-siblings of the house his mother married into.
1118 Daerphlaennar is sent (mainly by his step-father) on a dangerous mission to combat undead in the nearby regions.
c.1160 Daerphlaennar returns from his first expidition. His mother passes on to Arvandor. El'yatel and his step-greatuncle (both sun-elven High Mages) begin instructing Daerphlaennar on more advanced methods of spellcasting. This greatly upsets Daerphlaennar's step-father.
1174 Daerphlaennar is selected as a potential candidate to carry on the traditions of Elven High Magic.
1224 A band of elven adventurers from Evereska (secretly Harper agents) travel to Hellgate Dell. Avoiding the Dangers of the Fallen Lands they trek along hte north slopes of the Graypeak Mountains. They are later found dead and later that year Hill Elders confirm the involvement of drow. A party is formed to investigate, including Daerphlaennar. Since the travel to the Underdark involved passing through the haunted ruins of Citadel Yaunoroth and Daerphlaennar was a specialist in Light and positive energy magics it made sense to assign him to this task.
1225 The party passes through the Ammarindar citadel and safely enters the underdark. They encounter a small band of drow and are forced to fight to the death and are unable to capture (and then question) prisoners. Two suspicious priests of Rilifane in Evereska form a cabal of like-minded elves and rival nobles to investigate House Oridrath and its connection to several incidents including; the "disappearance" of Faerimyr Oridrath, the untimely death of Rihenine Oridrathearhine and the self imposed exile of the Deep Flower school of Enchantment (whose compound became the estate of House Oridrath upon their arrival in Evereska).
1226 The group abandons its fruitless search for a nearby drow encampment. While resting in the tunnel highways of Ammarindar the group is ambushed by a horde of fiends. Daerphlaennar, a valiant hero, and a noble cleric of Shevarash, attempt to hold off the demons while the others escape. The cleric is torn limb from limb but Daerphlaennar manages to dismiss scores of the fiends. The horde's master, a powerful nalfeshnee takes note of the skill displayed with Daerphlaennar's banishments. Haerdanthelpteer'al'gurnathiule (Hargurnath) overwhelms the mage and posesses him instead of killing him like the others. The demon discovers Daerphlaennar's memories of exploring Siluvanedenn ruins and sets off to explore them himself in his new body.
1227 Only a priest of Corellon and a ranger return to evereska with the news of the loss. Lord Ifersell, the step-father of Daerphlaennar invests a substantial amount into a memorial garden for the band and for the original adventurers who were killed. El'yatel discovers a sign that Daerphlaennar is still alive. He risks everything by sending out scores of tiny arcane eyes and demonling scouts in order to locate his son.
1228 Elven harpers attend the unveiling ceremony of the memorial garden in honor of their bretheren. Here they are introduced to the cabal trying to uncover the truth about House Oridrath. Lord Ifersell becomes aware of a vague and slight presence trying to undermine his power. Late that year he has a meeting about his suspicions with his uncle, Re'jinaris Ifersell. Re'jinaris reports this to his now close friend, El'yatel. Hargurnath discovers the ruins of Telardon. He takes residence in its green crag-like ruins.
1229 El'yatel and Re'jinaris attempt to consult an old dark ally of Re'jinaris, in Evermeet. Adventurers discover Hargurnath and are slain by him. Still under control, Daerphlaennar begins to be corrupted by the power of his demon master. The Circle of Sharvenn, as the cabal is now called, infiltrates House Ifersell.
c.1230 Daerphlaennar remains the puppet of Hargurnath and survives by picking off monsters of the Evermoors and wandering adventurers. The Circle, since its founding, strives to subtly gain support from influntial organizations and leaders. Its allies now include the Hill Elders, Harpers, clergy of the Seldarine and several nobles of various houses.
1230 A beautiful servant of House Ifersell reveals herself to the lord of the house as an agent of the Circle of Sharven. Through a combination of diplomacy, seduction and intimidation this agent convinces the Lord to aid them in uncovering the secrets of his late wife's house. Agents of the Circle infiltrate House Oridrath.
1231 The aged high mages, El'yatel and Re'jinaris return from Evermeet. El'yatel begins a ritual to remove the bindings cast by his mother Earhenine that prevent Neshnatel from serving him in Evereska. Re'jinaris dies mysteriously. There is chaos in House Ifersell as the cause of Re'jinaris' death is first blamed on natural causes, then assassins from an outside force, Lord Ifersell himself, and finally on magics of El'yatel and his great nephew, the sorceror Ferensci. Appearing in front of Hill Elders in the courts of Evereska, El'yatel appeases the judges and priests (succesfully fooling their detection magic). The trial of Ferensci is not as fortunate for House Oridrath. His trial is adjourned after he expresses the heretical and treasonous suggestion to question the spirit of Re'jinaris as to the cause of death. Ferensci is immediately imprisoned. Lord Ifersell disavows connections to House Oridrath and publicly supports the investigations. Within a matter of days House Oridrath is stripped of its title (as Ferensci fails to foil the detection magic of his inquisitors). All house members are exiled and troops are stationed outside the estate to enforce this ruling. However, El'yatel systematically goes through the house dispelling and breaking all the bindings and enchantments that could be evidence of infernalism. On the day that forces are told to clear the house, El'yatel opens a portal to the subchambers of his abandoned family complex in lothen. There all the house servants and family members are transported while they await orders from El'yatel. El'yatel ventures into the deep crypts of the house and conjures both Slornsayigaeroth and Ainneghurnonn. He informs them that he is going to pass on to Arvandor and that his son is alive and remains heir to the house legacy. He commands the two to bestow the family Telkiira to Daerphlaennar. Aineghurnonn resists and tries to escape to the abyss. He is again imprisoned within the vaults of the lothen stronghold. Slornsayigaeroth agrees to perform this last task but claims his final reward for centuries of servitude... the heart of El'yatel and the destruction of the house. After a long duel, Slorgoth devours El'yatel's soul, picks off the remaining members in the stronghold and begins his hunt for Daerphlaennar.
1232 Slornsayigaeroth tracks down Daerphlaennar and informs the wizard of the fate of his house. He reveals the fact that El'yatel was his father and not Lord Ifersell as Daerphlaennar was led to believe. He bestows the Telkiira held in the rotten heart of his ancient father. The cornugon then attempts to irradicate House Oridrath's heir but is slain by the nalfeshnee, Hargurnath. Momentarily released from possession, Daerphlaennar tricks Hargurnath into possessing the telkiira (and thereby gaining its insight) The gem refuses the demon and weakens it. Daerphlaennar then manages to imprison the battle-weary demon within the Loregem. Still powerful, the demon attempts to free himself from the enchantment and sears Daerphlaennar as he partially evades the spell. However, the demons essence is divided. He exists as Bhondeliranthayeeth Drasteiqa'al (Bondayeth) and B'jarhigal By'hlat'kayloshagal (Barghal). Bondayeth (his cautious and alert personality) survives in the scar across the chest of Daerphlaennar where the loregem attached itself and seared the elf wizard. Barghal (his greedy but knowledgable personality) survives trapped within the telkiira of house Oridrath. Hargurnath's foolishness at trying to escape by dividing his essence prevents him from coalescing his power and so he will never be able to free himself from the spell. Daerphlaennar vows first for revenge for his possession and the 'treachery' of Evereskan nobles and then vows to reestablish his house. The first living creature he encounters after being released is a vulture feeding on the bodies of the innocent that he was forced to slay. Daerphlaennar takes this creature in as his familiar. He spends many months alone with this creature deep in thought.
1235 A band of moon elf rangers from Silverymoon come across the ruins of Telardon. Daerphlaennar is convinced they are spies and slays them. The band was really a group of harpers trying to find orc encampments that could shelter remnants of the horde that assaulted Silverymoon earlier that year.
c.1235 Daerphlaennar locates and slays minions of Hargurnath. The exnalfeshnee's second in command, a glabrezu called Yomsai'charnnyguroth (Yomsuroth), is found and bound to a stone slab in the ruins of Telardon. The green stone slab was once a great door to one of the many towers. Later in this period Daerphlannar refines the process of harnessing liquid pain by using an abstraction of the method of distilling joy that he learned in Evereska. Content that he defeated his possessor's minions, he leaves the Telardon area, placing wards there to protect its sanctity.
1237 Residing in the wilderness, the elf wizard is approached by old treants and fey. They have observed his behavior of chasing away humanoids from the woods (the Silverwoods) and begin to treat him as one of their own kind.
1239 Daerphlannar is led by a party of Green Warden servants of a local treant ruler to the site of a mammoth shadowtop tree. Using arcane magic and with working with forest spirits Daerphlannar starts developing his soaring tower Phlaennorial'rezul.
c.1240 Groups of masked humans attempt to pass through the territory Daerphlaennar wards. He sends them back or slays them. Witnessing the combat, sylvan creatures give Daerphlaennar the sobriquet, 'The Elven Beholder' based on the multitude of ray spells he casts, particularly through his eyes.
1252 The eleven-story tower is complete. Rangers from Silverymoon request conference with Daerphlaennar. He accepts teh three elven rangers into his tower and the others are refused entrance. He does not give a name or title to the elves while he discusses with them his intentions of protecting the woods and practicing The Art in peace. The rangers return to Silverymoon with tales of the new Elflord of the Silverwood, (called Witchlord of the Silverwood by The People of Silverymoon)
1255 Representatives from Everlund and Silverymoon are granted council within Daerphlaennar's Tower. He reveals his true name and distances himself from his reputation in Evereska, preferring to be called by his old title, Hymriel Anchalvaladh ("Mage Radiance"). While he seems darker and slightly sinister, the elves admitted into council with him attribute this to his dark times spent battling demons in ancient dwarf tunnels.
c.1257 Poor translations of stories about Daerphlaennar result in his new name, Dairflanar Brightguard, being circulated in Everlund. People respect him for clearing his part of the Silverwood of orcs and monsters coming out of the Evermoors but fear him for clearing his part of the Silverwood of foresters... and humans in general. South of Everlund he becomes known as Dairflanar Willo'ridrath, an obviously insulting name.
1259 Daerphlaennar locates surviving members of his old house. He invites the most promising to live in his tower as a new stronghold.
1265 Daerphlannar is approached by a lesser wizard and accepts his invitation to join the Eldreth Veluuthra.
1269 Personally meets Torynnar Rhaevaern, the leader of the Vel'Nikeryma. Torynnar refuses to grant Daerphlannar a seat on the council because of their mutual animosity. Daerphlaennar hates the undead even if it is an elven undead. He is assigned a quest to retrieve a powerful symbol of his heritage.
1271 Daerphlannar retrieves a Golden Orb from Telardon. While it is not ancient property of his house, it is a powerful symbol of Siluvanedenn magic. While there, he gathers the stone door he imprisoned Yomsuroth within and installs it in his personal quarters in his tower. Torynnar still refuses to grant him a seat on the Vel'Nikeryma, mostly because he did not turn over the orb to Torynnar.
1272 Torynnar is finally pursuaded to allow Daerphlaennar a seat on the council of the Eldreth Veluuthra.
c.1290 Daerphlaennar unsuccessfully negotiates with representatives of Evereska to gain entrance and end his exile.
1314 Travels to Evermeet to study in elven libraries there.
1318 Returns from Evermeet.
1318-1343 Begins capturing and torturing certain foresters and monsters of the Evermoors and Silverwood in order to harness their pain. Over the next 25 years he bargains the liquid pain with fiends for spell secrets. His already impressive repetoire increases drastically.
1341 A dire vulture perches on the top of Daerphlaennar's tower. He rears the bird and trains it as a mount.
1343 Members of the Eldreth Veluuthra begin referring to him as Daeranus Blackfeather. "Bonepicker" his dire vulture mount becomes a symbol for Daerphlaennar's contempt for undead in the eyes of The People and residents of Silverymoon.
1370 Daerflannar becomes aware of the release of Dlardrageth feyri. He meets with Torynnar to discuss this. Human adventurers from the waterdeep area attack the two during this meeting. While the humans are not significantly challenging Daerphlannar shows his respect for Torynnar by disposing of the humans and capturing their souls. Torynnar and Daerphlaennar arrange for the Oridrath mage to "travel far away". This way Daerphlaennar is not expected to come to anyone's aid and therefore can avoid confrontation with potential allies, the Dlardrageth half-fiends.
1372 Daerphlaennar bestows Torynnar with a handful of precious elven antique gems, from the mines of Onthrilaenthor. Each holds the soul of one of the interfering human adventurers from two years past. This gift settles old animosity between the two. On that note, Daerphlaennar resigns from the council of the Vel'Nikeryma to allow him more freedom. He justifies this to the other council members by telling them an opening of a council seat will give current members more of a drive to act and thereby impress the council into granting them a seat... and after his century in the position he feels that he accomplished all that he could for now.
1374 Daerphlaennar "returns from his journey". He creates a tale that he defeated an orc lich in a lair beneath the High Ice.
