Posted - 15 May 2005 : 09:08:39 Just wanted to put this out there for ALL FR fans-
I recentely joined the Ghostorb website that some of you might have seen advertised in Dragon Magazine and well; One of the first posts of gamers and DM's alike was for those people interested in playing FR. And since I so love enjoy the many people here at Candlekeep with thier EXTENSIVE knowlegde and love of the realms I just wanted to let the FR fans here know about this site and hoping very much to ACTUALLY gaming with you all if possible!
We've only just started our first FR campaign and played our first game this very evening- IT WAS SO COOL, PLAYING WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER, WE HAD A GREAT TIME! As you can see I'm very excited about the possibilities this offers, how cool would it be to play with some designers, or authors themselves.
Any way if you have any questions please feel free to send me a message, I would love to see some of fellow scribes and loremasters there. Ill keep you updated on our campaign as we go!

Posted - 31 May 2005 : 04:06:26 The hardest part of DM'ing for GhostOrb is the setup for the game (especially maps), they have to be created either with software or drawn/scanned/resized and saved as PNG's. This takes quite a bit of time, but the end result is usually worth the effort. A DM has to be able to multi/multi task in the orb, the 'table' is a very simple tool, but it requires a lot of work to keep running (the DM has to move the map, and the players, as well as manage the game). This is a lot of work and requires a bit of practice. I spent a lot of time playing with the engine and trying out ideas with some of the other guys.
All in all, I like Ghost Orb a lot, and I can see its potential. Once the adventure creator (a template design)is out I think it will be a lot easier to DM the games. As it stands now, very few folks are willing to put in all the effort required to run a game, and thats a pity, as it will only get better with more use and suggestions.

Posted - 31 May 2005 : 02:38:16 I know its a work in progress, so I hope I didn't come across as too hard on it, I just wanted to list what my issues were for not jumping in and trying to use it. I may just sit back and play for once instead of trying to DM, especially with so many irons in the fire IRL. |

Posted - 31 May 2005 : 00:45:28 Knight,
That's wierd that you couldnt find an FR group, Blackstaff's FR campaign announcement got soo many relpies that he had to limit the number of ppl to just 5 total, and Erin_7 has a play by post game, and I'd be happy to be in another group since I dont have a regular group to play with.
The biggest deterrent to playing right now is the beta testing of the client, and I know they plan on having a tutor system set up once the client is perfected. Also I know that they havent started your membership yet, the WILL NOT begin anyones membership until the client is perfected and GhostOrb is open to the public for regular memberships, so as a StormCrow you get to play and messa round for free for the next 2-3 months.
And definately let me know if you want to join our FR group or start your own, I have room to play in another campaign - on GhostOrb I go by the handle Preacher, just PM me here or there.

Posted - 30 May 2005 : 18:46:25 I joined up with Ghost Orb with full intentions of DMing a few games, but it seemed a wee bit more complicated than I wanted to deal with, especially with my (Semi) regular group and trying to teach the kids how to play.
I know I shouldn't have assumed that it would be easy, but for the money I was paying for it, I thought at least it would walk you through a little more how to set everything up.
I haven't checked back in at least a week, but I was having a hard time finding a FR group when I was looking. I'm glad that you did manage to find one, and its sounds like it worked out great for you. |

Posted - 15 May 2005 : 10:00:59 Just to let you know - We started our adventure in Secomber, and we are already "hot on the trial" of some mysteriously missing dwarven ale from from one of our friendly neighborhood tavern owners.
