I just want some feedback on what would be the better multi-classing:
race: gnome
first class: cleric of b. cloakshadow
options for second class: sorcerer or illusionist
I plan to get the trickery and gnome domain and want to make him
an arcane devotee and/or an divine disipline(sp?).
If he should go epic i plan on archmage and/or hierophant.

I agree wholeheartedly, gnomes should still have a favored class as illusionists, maybe in addition to the bard class. I mean, what's the point of not being an illusionist when you get +2 to saves vs. illusions and +1 to DC for casting illusion spells?

Hmm. Considering Lore Gnomes have been many things.

The Tinker Gnome certainly existed in the game though lore does not support that well.

The Gnomes certainly used illusions at times to stay hiden, however they also have a lore of weird dances within the rocks or on the surface.

The Bard class as poorly mutated from lore of what they actually were is a good compromise within the game.

The Bard can use illusionary magic and tricks (Perform, Sieght of Hand, Move Silent, etc.) to maintain the illusion effect that Gnomes have had in lore and the game, it also allows them the skill points to be crafters within the game design.

As for giving the Gnome two favorite classes that certainly can make sense as well, certainly better then saying all (such as humans and half-elves get) or one. If assigning two to a race for balance issues i suspect that some kind of penality should be imposed, perhaps 5 percent if they are not within one level of each other.

In the end it is up to the DM to decide house rules when not happy with rules presented as written.

Edit: Perhaps another option instead of a 2nd favorite class give better racial bonus to illusionary effects (which could include both magic and non magic tricks to fool the eye.

they did it because players were complaining about the gnomes fav class beeing so limited against other races fav-classes. so they gave them the whole bard class. it is fitting after all, as gnomes are noted for their rogueish and magical nature.

Every DM should have a house rule making illusionist the favored class of gnomes again!!!

*Still doesn't believe it and looks in own PHB*
OMG!!! It's true. WHY?!? WHY, WotC, did you do this?

Yeah Whisper Gnome's are awsome and illusionist fits with them well, really not sure where the bard thing came from myself, in out games its either or to be fair.

I'd say illusionist(house-ruled) but look at Races of Stone for some good gnome flavored prcs, Divine prankster for example. It also has 2 cool gnome variants, chaos gnome(LA+1) and a whisper gnome.

I know many DM's house rule the Illusionist to be the favored class for the gnome since it is sadly Bard in 3.5. If your DM does this than Cleric/Illusionist is a great multi-class combo. If not you just have to make sure you keep your levels close enough.

Any race could work well for the PrC's you have listed. I don't know if Gnome is better than any other, if that's the type of character that you want to play than go for it because they are definitely no worse than any other race.

Like I said before, talk to your DM about either replacing bard with illusionist as favored class or like we do in my games, favored class for a gnome is Bard or Illusionist, PC's choice. If you can do either of these options than you have a good start for a character.

If you don't get the benefit of illusionist as your favored class than Sorcerer is just as good as Illusionist. I know some people don't like preparing spells for two classes, they feel it takes too much time. If that's the case I would go Cleric/Sorcerer.

Hope that helps.

PC, Archmage and Heirophant are both great classes, I prefer Archmage because the spell progression increases. I for one think it's foolish that the Heirophant does not do the same.
