I need help working up a background for the following character...
pal3/wiz3/spellsword/eldrich knight FEATS- jotunburnd-wanted the whole Wulfgar look with maybe a hint of giant or fey blood thrown in to explain spell casting prodigy. other feats are open or filled with combat feats
background so far....parents came to Waterdeep from the Moonsheas to find a better life. The promise of jobs was correct but that did not give them a better live and they soon died of natural cuases leaving a 5 year old boy. The boy was large for his size and was soon "bought" forma local orphage buy a poor blacksmith needing an apprentice. That blacksmith later got a semi-prem. job working in a temple of Torm. It was a training center for paladin;s of Torm, Order of the Golden Lion... |

If as you indicate, starrts t level one, there is no need of a back story. The story develpes during play. A Pal certainly needs to see the advantages of switching to Wiz, perhaps able to cast a fireball (after some study) being viewed as better then cutting up those 50 kobolds/goblins/standard low level foes. The Fey blood (which I am sure many would dispute) providing a call to magic of course could be a factor. Perhaps one or both parents were arcane users that provide a genectic call to the craft or limited childhood memoriers doing the same.
It is hard to write a story not yet played, at best can offer ideas of why a Pal might fall some from the full dedication expecte from a Paladin.
Oh perhaps he fell and choose another path as opsed to atonement? |

Posted - 18 Mar 2005 : 00:46:53 He will start at level 1; the class progression is just a projection. Paladins of Torm can freely multi-class with one other class. I see him as a paladin first who begins to recognize his arcane potential (spell casting prod) and begins studies as a wizard. He will still very much strict to the paladin code even if he can't take additional paladin levels. Think large (Wulfgar, Cameron) man with Moonshea/(Scottish/Irish flavor). He has some giant blood in his family tree (not half-giant but Jotunbrund feat) and that blood also has some fey qualities that make him a surprisingly good wizard.
I wanted a back story as to how he transitioned from a paladin to wizard. SCProdigy is one explanation but was looking for some cool ideas.

Posted - 18 Mar 2005 : 00:24:28 Transition from Pal to Wiz can be simple depending on alignment. The magic of a Wiz is more combat friendly, also less restrictive in when such magics can be used.
A lot depends on te history of life develpment the Character has gone though. So far I know was a smith apprentice for a while which inculded some temple work (This can explain attraction to becoming a Paladin, however not explain other classes taken).
I take it that the Character is not RPed from level one. Under this assumption of high level build based on what is provided the Character started as a Pal (and achieved 3rd level) however during those adventures saw the advantages of a traveling Wizard (insert name here) and started to lose the total devotion to Torm (making it hard to stay a Paladin) , it could be liking women, could be enjoying wealth, could be resentment from being bond by too many rules (After all was basically sold as a slave to become a smith, Torm certainly would look like a better deal, getting rid of code of conduct certainly could look like the best deal. )

It sounds like you already have a start on a background story with the parents coming to Waterdeep from the Moonshaes. You may want to decide if the character was raised by his human parent, giant parent, both, or some adopted family before becoming a blacksmiths apprentice.
Backstories are difficult to come up with for other people's characters because we don't know the direction you want to head with him. Sure we know he's going to be a Pal3/Wiz3/Spellsword/Eldritch Knight but we don't know what type of personality he has or what his goals are. Is he a champion of Good that happens to take on Torm as his patron or is he a champion of Good because Torm is his patron?
By this level he should have a pretty good idea about what he wants out of life. Why is he adventuring, who does he adventure with, etc...
I know I am answering your question with the very questions you were asking but I really can't help without a little more info.

From the SRD:
HALF-GIANTS
+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity: Half-giants are tough and strong, but not too nimble.
Giant: Half-giants are not subject to spells or effects that affect humanoids only, such as charm person or dominate person.
Medium: As Medium creatures, half-giants have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Half-giant base land speed is 30 feet.
Low-Light Vision: A half-giant can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
Fire Acclimated: Half-giants have a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against all fire spells and effects. Half-giants are accustomed to enduring high temperatures.
Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.
Naturally Psionic: Half-giants gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.
Psi-Like Ability: 1/day-stomp. Manifester level is equal to 1/2 Hit Dice (minimum 1st). The save DC is Charisma-based.
Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Giant, Gnoll, Ignan.
Favored Class: Psychic warrior.

There's also a Half-Ogre in Races of Destiny.
