Bookwyrm suggest I write here, so I'm giving it a whirl. Hope he won't be disappointed!
Sorry for lack of a better title, but I suppose it holds weight as most readers of novels and gamers alike, usually associate evil as something impure or wrong. While good, is the embodiment of right and morale.
Drow are ultimately described as evil, while few are good (i,e Drizzt, the Eilistraee faction), but very few drow until recently, show any decency yet still retain a nature that is still considered evil by standard.
Before this turns into a debate rather than an adventure, I will say that Vesz'aun and Xull'rae are no exception to what I wrote above. Anyone is free to give their thoughts and replies.
These excerpts that I will post from time to time will be from actual session logs that we have tracked through the course of our campaign. I will not post entire logs, as some are graphic in nature, or it just may bore readers for their length. Most will be for a laugh, some might make you relate. We shall see!
Vesz'aun will probably post his favorites as well.
Perhaps I will write a bio on Xull'rae, or short story explaining her history but for now I'll keep it to myself.

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 05:49:29 Why thank you! I believe Vesz'aun will be posting a funnier excerpt shortly.
Dunno, Xull in the latest sessions (not edited yet) has been fairly light hearted, to where I've taken a break from her this week, to think on how I can keep her evil. |

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 05:39:09 Well I guess evil drow really can't be light-hearted especially when they constantly have to keep looking over their shoulder! Another great post Xull |

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 05:09:52 This is not exactly light hearted material, BUT it has humor in it all the same, for the jabs and name calling.
Irony and satire too, plus hidden and not so hidden sexual tension.
"So answer my Question then.." Xull'rae said softly still reigning in the urge to snap.
"Curiosity for the most part, Cogliostro shrugged. "And, to gauge what I could about you all...a little at a time, I will learn all I need to about the lot of ye. And of course, the lot of you has been tested repeatedly today."
Xull'rae replied in contempt unable to hold it back any longer, "sorry but you'll never figure me out. Just what slips out and what I let you see...and I don't slip very often.”
Cogliostro simply keeps that smile going and nods to the drowess, the smile a most knowing one this time.
"Besides I'm a woman, you're a ma...well a male and you have never, since the dawn of time figured us of the other sex out yet," Xull'rae continued now haughty and confident.
"Tested?! Why and How?!" Horock shouted angrily. He was very irritated about being "tested". He didn't like not knowing when he was being tested either.
Cogliostro winked at the Drowesses words, "Mm, quite true, that I cannot argue." At Horock's outburst, he raised an eyebrow, as if the man should know, "Why... should be self-obvious, Saer Horock...and how should it come to ye upon reflection of the days events.
Horock chuckles to himself at the Drowesses words, trying to calm himself down in the process.
Cogliostro continues, "Now, since it seems to upset you so much, Saer Horock, I shall tell you that most tests had been passed, though by a narrow margin in most cases."
Xull'rae having enough of the "discussion" starts going down the stairs, intending on leaving. "Well, I will be going...since I'm not 'needed' I have prayer to catch up on."
"Mm, take your imbeciles with you, please. The third will be arriving soon.” He now sounded irritated himself as all this bantering was finally getting to him, however he felt no need to explain what he meant by that to the drowess.
"Not mine Rivven they are yours...my duties to the recruit are done for the day.." She kept on going not looking back, pleased to hear some irk come out of him if nothing else.
"No, no, they are yours...only mine by virtue of them being yours!" Now he sounded pleading but for those looking at him the irritating and knowing smile was still present.
"Okay..." Horock glares and growls at the human. "Fine, play your little games. Just know that I am not a dog to be called on whenever you so please." He looks at Xull'rae's cloaked form, wondering if she is truly going to leave him here. He wouldn't have cared, it was just that he didn't know his way around the city as of yet, and he wanted to be sure that he could get back to the relative safety of the tower. After all, there was a price on his head, and he didn't want to lose it. So he quickly followed her.
"Oh, but you are" That broad smile is offered to Horock as he called after the all but running male. "You became said dog the day you gave part of your free will up in order to serve Vhaeraun. Such is the price of faith."
"No sorry I refuse to baby sit them as of now.” Xull'rae sounded regal and bored. She looked at Horock behind her. Her eyes were cold yet beautiful; they almost glowed like burnished gold. "He should know his way to the temple...if not he will learn.”
"So long as they leave my establishment, I care not if you slack in your duties as their caretaker, drowess," comes the distant but well heard reply.
In which Xull'rae whirled on Horock and was so close to him he could feel her warm breath on his skin and see her face clearly even though the hood was up, she was angry but was still so beautiful it made his breath catch it his throat and he tried to pay attention to her words. "Rule of thumb twit; thieves care for themselves first...others second...I'm not slacking in anything. Do you understand? The Shadow Sorcerer said to teach you...lessons end for the day. Got it?"
Tired of all of this, Horock stalks away from her, more from dizziness than anger, though he was upset at being treated so lowly, he didn't turn to look at her or shout. "Fine, I will find the way back to the temple. If this is another one of your 'tests' human, I would like to tell you that I am very upset right now, I pity whoever gets in my way." As he moves further toward the exit, he keeps an eye on his back. He knows that going out into the streets he will be in danger, but it was a risk he was willing to take if it would help prove himself to his teacher.
"He also said that the young cleric is fully under your command and care...so, if anything happens to your imbecile, it is your pretty little butt on the line, not mine." Cogliostro reminded her, he too coming down the stairs, Drazoul in tow. A slight shrug is offered to her and then shakes his head at the angry Horock. "Tsk tsk, one really should know how to contain their anger...a sign of weakness, that." It seemed to fall on deaf ears as no retort was given.
"Not really," Xull'rae replied to the human in a matter of fact tone, "if he can't find a place of sanctuary on his own after being shown it...he is a terrible thief and Vhaeraun has no need of such... he has to learn and in the Underdark, even here, he has to learn without being led If he can't then let him die."
Smiling politely to the drowess, Cogliostro answers, "Like I said what you do with him and for him is your own business. The matter has nothing to do with myself. Now, go make such proclamations to those who care, like the Shadow Sorcerer." Still wearing a mocking smile, he makes a small shooing motion in her direction.
Drazoul having heard all of this, finally speaks up, “I have no intention of going with them to pray I suppose I shall stay, Horock if you need my dagger just say." He made no attempts to defend his friend.
"Hm, if ye are to stay, pull out your coin purse, for it will not be a free ride." Cogliostro responded and then continued, "Lodging, drinks, food, and women are available. Men too, seeing as that would seem more your style," glancing at the leaving Horock with a chuckle.
Xull'rae hearing the comment, smiles beyond the hood but couldn't resist jabbing at the human with her own personal wit. "Go straddle a table leg you weird, man loving windbag!" Maybe it was he who liked men, he sure did smile at lot whenever the subject was brought up. She spoke it in high Drow as she slipped around the corner and disappeared. |

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 04:10:42 Second installment...
As Xull'rae leaned down to help Solaufein up, she heard the presence of two pair of feet moving in their direction, from the opposite end of the hall, hushed words being exchanged between the two, the first being a recognizable voice, that of Bragh. "Now he is more ripe than ever, this should work out well, retrieve his blade, take it to the lab, I will go and get him as soon as I deal with these two." The second figure muttered a confirmation, though she did not recognize his voice, nor his face as he scrambled past them and picked up the bundle, continuing on his way without another word. Bragh, however, stopped and gazed upon her and Solaufein, his ugly pinched visage forming into some semblance of concern, forced into place to be sure, voice intended for their ears this time. "Revered Sister, Brother, forgive my tardiness, I would have arrived sooner, but I was delayed with the Inquisitor." Even though he was seemingly sincere, Xull'rae could glean by the look in his eyes that it was not an entire truth.
She wanted to run after whoever took Vesz'aun's blade, but stayed her spot to confront the Enchanter, looking him over with scorn. With his gray robes trimmed with lavender and his pinched and frail face, he was hardly an imposing figure. "Have whomever picked up that bundle return it to me, it's mine, I want it now."
Bragh blinked, obviously taken off guard for the moment, then he gathered himself and said in an almost apologetic tone, "I'm afraid that you do not have the authority, Sister. Though I will take the matter up with Pharaun at the first opportunity, and let him know of your desires. I'm sure he will not turn down your request, once the proper procedures have been followed."
Xull'rae narrowed her gaze, unmoved by his speech. She knew the truth, there were no procedures. They were going to do something to Vesz'aun and she was not going to let them use him to get to her in any way. Whether to emotionally confuse her or have him as a tool to rid her from the tower, she was not going to be an obedient pawn nor let them use a man she wanted to get rid of her own way to make sure he never returned to plague her. No, she was not easily controlled and this lapdog had sharp teeth. Anger exploded, knowing he saw her as a child and not a woman of equal standing, she let words fly from her mouth, "no, no, no, Bragh, I am the very pissed off psionicist that can fry your mind right now! So yes I have every authority."
For a moment, there was an amount of uncertainty within Bragh's crimson orbs, then it was replaced with a tinge of his own haughty anger, though his demeanor did not show it otherwise. Again, he attempted to sound somewhat apologetic, though he was firmer with her this time. "I'm afraid that you are overstepping boundaries, allowing your emotions to interfere. Again I understand your desire, but procedures must be, and WILL be followed."
She tried to focus her thoughts and concentrate on dominating him, but her emotions were too frazzled with anger and worry on breaking the rules of her faith that she would not harm those of the faith, her frustration mounted to new heights that he was treating her this way and she was trapped within a web of her own making. Xull'rae did not like feeling helpless. With biting sarcasm she spat out, "Oh really, and is it in your authority to 'deal' with us? How do you plan to do so mage? I swear people around here think I'm not drow and can't hear well."
A look of being "caught" crossed his face and instantly it was gone, replaced by irritation. He adeptly pushed it aside though becoming of placating manner once more. She had no authority over him, and her actions frustrated him, to say the least, as she always was a difficult one to intimidate and suppress, but that would change soon enough. "Hm? Oh, that. I merely meant that I would offer up what aid I could to the situation, Sister."
Xull'rae rolled her eyes, steadying the silent darkmask to his feet, "and that's another thing you males perceive around here, that I'm stupid."
This was going badly and not the way he planned, frantic, Bragh tried pleading. "No, not at all priestess," this time he placed his hands out in a manner to portray that he was not trying to be demeaning nor argumentative in any way, shape, or form, even if it wasn't the complete truth.
Not buying into his fake emotion, she didn't need to mind read to figure that out she replied in a calm stately manner, all traces of anger now gone, "well you can explain to the Inquisitors, the Shadow Sorcerer and every authority here that until Vhaeraun himself thinks I matter, I'm out of here. if you have to kill me, go ahead, I'd love to see you fella's try." She looked at Solaufein and asked, "can you stand Darkmask?"
This was going very badly, her words caught Bragh quite off guard once more, and his jaw actually gaped for a brief moment. Then he forced it shut, blinked once, then shook his head slightly, trying once more to be apologetic. He didn't want to be blamed for losing a true and rare faithful Masked Traitor. "Revered Sister, truly, no offense was meant. This is standard procedure that I am following, nothing more. But if that is truly what you feel, I will of course pass it along to the Shadow Sorcerer. Now, in order that I not further offend you, I shall take my leave." That said, he offered a respectful half bow, and hastened towards where the bladesinger, and his earlier companion, had went hoping no one noticed that sweat had started to pop up on his forehead, nor the nervous twitch of his left eye.
She glanced at Solaufein, and caught the slight look of irritated disbelief, which quickly transformed into one of satisfied possibilities that shifted upon Bragh's features as he spun to stride away. Though she could hear Bragh's hushed voice once more as he apparently met up with his companion after rounding the corner. "A minor setback, but if all goes well she'll be killed for her insolence. It seems this day gets better and better, maybe if she isn't disposed then we'll have two converts so very soon."
For his part, Solaufein got to his feet with some great effort, but did not stand fully, instead leaning heavily against the door frame. Despite the obvious pain and discomfort he felt, his gaze met that of Xull'rae's, holding some measure of concern and a touch of disbelief as well. He wanted to speak up sooner but no one had given him a chance and the pain in his groin had indeed hindered speech for awhile. "Sister, you would truly leave us?"
She sighs, suddenly weary of these games and beginning to doubt herself. When she looked at him again, her amber colored eyes were pained and lonely, but there was such resolve and determination that said she didn't plan to leave entirely, but it seemed what she had to say contradicted that. "Well when you put your life in peril everyday because you can't worship a god outright, because you'd be killed cause of it or worse if you do or are found out. You worship this god cause the goddess you were brought up to worship is cruel and unfair, then you expect changes. I expected equality. I've busted my butt for this 'cause' that I thought had merit, but all I get are just as much lies, half truths and disrespect the Lolth bitches give me, and I have to draw a line somewhere. Yes, I'm afraid I must leave and continue my search, maybe I should be a merchant or mercenary and not worry about the gods and their schemes. They don't care what happens to me so why should I care about them." It hurt to say that and she did not dare delve into her feelings at that moment, lest she become defeated like Vesz'aun. In her heart, she still had enough faith, but this church seemed too concerned with itself, rather than its god. Too disgruntled to stay and seek guidance from the higher ranks for fear of betrayal there too, she untied her mask from her neck and hands it to him her face reflecting her anger, confusion, and unspoken apologies. "You can have the Shadow Sorcerer do what he will to my room, I have my possessions," she also hands him her short sword, unbuckling the sheath from her belt. "If we meet again and we must do battle, I expect you to fight with all your skill for I will as well, and if I must die I will not go down easy."
This time Solaufein's bafflement and disbelief at her actions was even more apparent, his form straightening as he stared first at the bundled mask in his hands, then at her, something akin to pleading present on his face as well. "Sister, this is ridiculous! Reconsider! The Masked One has shown you more personal favor than almost any in this place. How could you think he does not care? Backstabbing, scheming, and manipulating is part of life for our kind, a simple fact, and one which we here at the Tower, nay, in Vhaeraun's very faith, excel at. So of course you will find it happening even between the Faithful at times. Do not fret the mage, he has always been like that, and most here do not like nor trust him, with good reason. But do not let him make you question your faith!"
Always one to have dry wit, even in dreary moments Xull'rae quipped "it's not just him, good speech though, you looked very sincere and appealing. Think you have time to romp around?" She gives a small smile seeing his worried face and patted his shoulder. "If I wasn't drow, you'd be a friend in my eyes at least. You have been the only one to notice me and at least talk to me as if I mattered and I thank you," she winks then and shrugs, reviewing what he had said to her. "Hmm blame the doubt on my youth. Maybe I wasn't cut out to scheme..I really don't know, it just gets so tiring at times. Maybe I'm weaker than the bladesinger." She turns to go.
He sort of offers a return smile, but his confusion and puzzled frustration wins out for the most part at first, and he takes a few moments to form words. "Yes, it is tiring at times, I agree, but life here does not allow for pause in it very often. We are not like the softer, lesser races which reside in the lands of light..though at times I personally wish that weren't so. You are hardly weak Xull'rae, you are just young, you will grow and mature more with time and then you'll be stronger. Do not think me the only one who thinks so highly of you, nor the only one of a friendly bent. I know Rizzen feels much the same as I do about it, just to mention one other. I beg you, rethink the matter. Rest on it if you must, but take back these symbols of faith in the meantime, Sister. Our Lord will be wounded, much like some of we clergy, should you falter from your faith, not to mention by your simple departure. Its not just a matter of faith which binds some of us."
Xull'rae turned around and chewed on her lower lip to keep from flinching. His words stabbed her in what little heart she had, tucking away his admissions, she believed him, and that gave her hope. She forms one of her rare soft smiles and cups Solaufein's face in her equally tiny hands and kisses his forehead. "Always am I a soft one for males, but I cannot stay here nor can I carry the mask or sword but I will keep the holy symbol of the faith and think of what you have said. Perhaps the answers I seek are elsewhere we shall see. I have not totally given up, not yet, I just need time to think."
Solaufein could do naught but offer something akin to a sad smile, and a sympathetic nod. "Perhaps they are at that. I will keep these items in my possession for the day when you will come back to the fold, Sister. No matter the outcome, you are free to summon me should you need anything." He wanted to argue the point further, simply to get her to stay, but he was wise enough to know she needed this as she stated, so he would not. The most he could try to do was offer some sense of sympathy and support for her.
Xull'rae was grateful as she nodded and stepped back. With a smile she turned around and proceeded toward the entrance of the tower with all the confidence she possessed and tried very hard not to let her constantly churning thoughts stop her from doing what she felt she must do.
Solaufein simply watched her go, a look of sadness upon his features, but understanding was there as well.
Weeeee done..phew
Perhaps not as funny as you'd like but has some bits and pieces in here.
I'll see what else I can find that is funny, shouldn't be too hard! |

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 02:31:12 WARNING THIS IS A FAIRLY LONG POST
She just been given the task of assassinating her matron, from the high inquisitor himself, her draegloth brother with confusion of the foundations of his own faith, swore loyalty to her, and now Vesz'aun the nonbeliever dared to question her faith....
The words came to her ears, though she couldn't quite make out who was outside, as the door shut most of the way, only cracked open by virtue that it had a faulty locking mechanism. The Bladesinger's form having retreated out into the hall for a moment, then he came stumbling a step back in a moment later, appearing to have been pushed aside, a look of much anger evident upon his visage as she caught a glimpse from her perch. Then she saw him reach for his blade, which was of course not at his belt. A low growl was issued, and she could make out his leg being thrust outward and in an upward swing. A heartbeat later, a dull thud and a loud groan issued into the doorway, right before Vesz'aun headed out once more, more of his words trailing inward, though not directed at her. "I warned ya, simpleton, now go soak yer bullocks in ice for an eternity or two."
The door did not completely shut at this point, and this time she could surmise it was because someone was laying partially against it, preventing such. Vesz'aun's sometimes grating voice could be heard once again, in an overly loud manner. "What, you two want some of this too? Bring it on dipwads, or step the Abyss outta my way."
Xull'rae offered silent apology to her god for not making proper prayers this day. Irritation and curiosity getting the better of her, she went to investigate what was amiss muttering to herself why she tolerated the bladesinger and hoping beyond hope that she could be rid of him.
When she got to the doorway, she saw a familiar form crumpled on the floor, trying to catch his breath whilst cradling his manhood, the figure was Solaufein. Out in the hallway, Vesz'aun had his bundle in one hand, and was making a rude gesture with the other at two youngling males who were now scampering off towards the clerical rooms beyond the foyer. "That's what I thought, ya little punks."
The anger Xull'rae had felt towards him earlier no longer suppressed itself, and the calm dissipated, her expression as she pulled down her mask was a black thunder head. "What are you doing!? I should kill you for harm to my brethren, I'm actually within my rights to do so bladesinger and without your weapon it would be interesting to see how you'd fight me."
Vesz'aun turned, shock and outrage on his handsome face. "What?! Your 'brethren' there is a punk, piece of crap poser, he ain't no real priest, and he pushed me, so I was within MY rights to kick his cowardly butt! Or his manliness in this case." He peered down at the fallen darkmask, grinning with malicious humor, mostly himself.
Xull'rae knelt down to help Solaufein up, intent on seeing if he was all right and see if he wanted to right the slight against him before she flew off the handle and did it herself. Looking at Vesz'aun with contempt she said, "if he pushed you it was because you were in the way and should have moved and went to Bragh long ago like I told you to."
Vesz'aun's crimson eyes widened and his mouth hung agape, when he finally managed to speak his tone was incredulous and resentful. "Yer gonna take HIS side!? What the abyssal hells is up with that? A guy's not allowed to defend himself, just because that piece of worthless crap poses as a priest?"
She would have dropped Solaufein and gone to draw her weapon to attack the insolent bladesinger, but she kept her fingers gripped tightly on his shoulders, if left in his state Solaufein could come to further harm and it would be her fault. Torn between two duties of protecting and seeking retribution, she managed to speak in hissing tones, "he is a darkmask you idiot so therefore he is a priest and yes I'm taking his side."
Hurt and angry now, Vesz'aun retorted, "bah! You have actually fallen for his lies? Fine then, be stupid!" His glare shot from her, down to Solaufein, who was starting to get up. Taking a step forward, he placed a hand out as if to offer to help Solaufein up, that handsome face softening to one of apology. "Fine, whatever, I'll go do my thing, and let me help you up, priest."
With distrustful eyes, Xull'rae watched him, not letting go of her companion. Solaufein, also wary decides to give him the benefit of the doubt and offers the other man his hand. Then Vesz'aun promptly stepped a little further and landed another swift kick into the darkmask's manhood again before turning to saunter off, dark laughter, though not very mirth filled, emanating from his form. "See, why would Vhaeraun want some wimp ass punk like that, who can't even defend himself? I told you he's a poser."
As the priest groan and slumped sideways, Xull'rae eased him to the floor and ran after Vesz'aun slamming him into the nearest wall with a strength that defied her form, which from the look of it was livid with rage. The storm was rolling and threatening to cause destruction. The dagger flashed in her hand and then pressed dangerously to his own manhood, if he so much as twitched he knew he would be nicked. She was so close he could feel her breath on his skin. Her tone was disdainful and ominous "Apparently you do not believe in my faith and that's fine, you're an unbeliever and will be purged in due time, but do not think it is ever a bluff when I say that I will kill you if such an occurrence happens again that you cause harm to the Masked Lord's faithful, but I believe that would rob Sol of his vengeance, so you will live for now. If he wants to, it will be exacted at any time by his choosing, if not now, I suggest you find Bragh quietly. If you can't succeed in such, what I will do to you will be worse than that monstrosity of a draegloth you now fear, and still live to later atone for you offenses today. Is that understood?" She was dead serious, and actually quite calm despite her apparent anger.
The laughter quickly faded, Vesz'aun's twin pools of crimson narrowing spitefully at her, one of the daggers he secreted upon his own person already in hand, though not brandished at her, as his obsession caused him to pause in that. His own manner was much calmer, the idiocy seemingly washed away for the moment, his words soft yet determined. "I've killed more than a few of your kind, priestess, for doing such as this, and have no doubt, your boy laying there doesn't possess the courage to stand against me. He never has, and I doubt he ever will. But fine, we'll play this your way, I will take my leave. Now remove your blade from my manhood, and I shall do such." The longer he spoke, the more she could see his inner turmoil within those crimson orbs, mostly born from the fact he hated her for what she was now doing, but at the same time could not allow himself to hate her.
She used this to her advantage, in the hopes that he could die and she'd be rid of him and his beautiful blood be smeared on her hands. You've killed my kind huh? What kind is that Vesz'aun? One's sympathetic to male plight, the one who has gotten you and others out of trouble with risk to myself or the arrogant, whiny, spoiled priestesses, half of which that don't know the first thing about combat? So yes, please, please kill me Bladesinger, here and now."
She stepped back shrugging, her dagger slipping away, her pretty face turning agreeable. "Why not? You'd being doing the drow a service by doing so, since I'm committing such an injustice by defending my faith and my comrade by violating your rights." She spread her arms wide, open for a clean hit, a kill even. "What's the matter? Live up to your threat, if I'm such the evil priestess you think I am, prove it. Kill me. Stop being weak and wishy washy, kill me Vesz'aun." She was actually serious, prepared to die to prove a point. Her faith was strong, what she was doing was right, he was weak and what he was doing was wrong to her line of thinking, but knowing Vesz'aun pretty well, it was likely he would not harm her.
A look of confusion and hurt crossed Vesz'aun's features as she backed away, and realization dawned on him of what was transpiring. He did not fear her challenge he knew he could kill her, but he knew he shouldn't, she did speak some measure of truth. She was different, some of the time. The other truth was the weakness, he would not harm her, not outright, not like this, and it shamed him. He couldn't help it, he wanted her, he needed her but couldn't explain why. That one thing sparked some semblance of emotion within his being. The pained looked was accompanied soon thereafter by one of defeat, and he tossed his own dagger carelessly to the floor, swallowing his pride as best he could, and turning away before she could glean more from the windows to his soul. His tone was weary, if a tad angered, as he walked away and said, "then I'll not kill you, as I've no want to do any drow in this world a service." It wasn't entirely true, but sullen and sulking as was his mood right now, he said it anyway.
Xull'rae stood there watching his back, her face expressionless. In truth it was no mask, all she felt was confusion now. She had him now and kept her word in not killing him, but seeing his pain caused her no joy, but caused her no pain either. She felt empty and she couldn't fathom why.
Such was Vesz'aun's mood at this point, that he paused a moment, and tossed the bundle upon the floor before he continued onward. "I wish to no longer be any more beholden to one drow either."
The emptiness in Xull'rae fled as quickly as it had come, replaced once again by anger. He dared to place the blame of his weakness on her? Her tone was full of contempt and revulsion as she replied, "how disgusting. It's not my fault your attached to your blade, or me! It's not my fault you can't back what you say, and gods know it's not my fault you are defeated and sulking like this. You cannot handle the truth, if you were bothered by all this you'd seek means to avidly rid yourself of me and you just passed a chance. You are the one who is the punk and poser! I swear I don't know why I found you the least bit attractive or noble, I guess I am stupid!" She shook her head turning back to help Solaufein up again, wanting to give her hands something to do before she snapped and killed Vesz'aun for her anger, which was always wasteful in her opinion.
"Whatever," Vesz'aun mumbled, his form rounded the corner at the end of the hall, disappearing from view.
I'll wait to post the other half in a bit, don't want to make the post too long. |

Xull'rae has been adopted, she is the youngest of 6 daughters..or is it 7 (some of them are so "background" characters that I forget about them. Regardless though Xull is the favored of her matron because she has skills and is intelligent and good at covering up things..on more ways than one.
As for Lloths silence, we PLAN to put it in later, so we are doing it "before it" right now since no one will know the outcome and the DM doesn't want to speculate with "What if's. It's a changing major event and he wants the facts, so we must "wait" It's still a fun campaign in my opinion though. I believe we have it set now at 6 months before her silence, or earlier, not good with FR dates.
I'll see if I can locate the log with which she argues with Vesz'aun and leaves the church. It's all in the same log I believe. In fact, I think I posted that in Shadowlord's boards. |

That does sound very interesting. I would love to read it

Sure! I'd be happy to show anybody and everybody. I'm just so excited to marry the man I've been with for four years now! But we probably won't get any done until close to the wedding.
Was Xull always a follower of Vhaeraun?
No, she was forced to become a priestess of Lloth. I would like to read either how she chose him or why or even a conflict scene would be cool something where she or Veszaun are pitted against Loth worshipers defending their faith. You know what I mean? I could just be something subtle it doesn't have to be an overt battle. Actually how she became faithful to Vhaeraun was never played out yet. Been waiting to fix that. She is now known as a Masked Traitor. One who still worships Lloth up front and Vhaeraun in secret. Why she chose him was simple. He and his faithful smooth talked her into joining their ranks, saying she'd be more useful as a spy to keep tabs on the spider priestesses. Hence why she is a Masked Traitor, instead of a straight up worshipper. She didn't know she'd obtain both powers from two deities until she converted. Why she truly converted was because her young heart dreamed of change. She wishes to see Elves and drow as allies, not enemies, she also wishes to see males treated better. She didn't go to Eilistraee because none of them approached her and now it's too late. Xull is a fanatic for Vhaeraun and now it is hard for anyone to sway her from him and his dogma. Though it has been shaken a time or two. Ultimately Xull'rae can not see herself dancing and going naked a lot, being kind and asking strangers do they need help. Being sincere is hard, but lying to steal food or pocessions off a stranger is more her style. Vesz'aun is actually impious, he believes in no god and hates Lloth and her priestesses with a passion. Yes this causes heavy conflict between his character and mine! Fun stuff though. I have a log to show them arguing and her leaving the temple awhile, to question her faith if you are interested?
To me one of the very few differences between Loth and Vhaeraun is the gender thing. That is why I'm so curious as to why a female, wasn't Xull a high ranking one as well?, would choose Vhaeraun over Loth?
Well actually, there are many differences between Mother and son, but many similarities between brother and sister. His goal is like hers though very twisted. Xull'rae is very young (71 years of age) Therefore she is not a high level priestess (5th level cleric, 1st level Masked Traitor, this effectively makes her a 6th level priestess altogether) We use 3.5 rules so Xull has other classes and levels, making her a weak character now but a well rounded one. Her character sheet is outdted but we are not types to totally live by the laws of D&D's rules. Meaning we play more than we roll dice. Make sense? Dice factor is still there but not very often.
Thanks for the questions! Keep them coming! |

Posted - 07 May 2004 : 02:09:06 Here it is:
Horock and Drazoul has just been told there whole life is a lie and have been made for one purpose. That purpose though will most likely kill them..Horock is not pleased.
When Bloodhorn was ignored, he gave a sign and shook his head a bit. He looked on to the human for a long moment and the smiled slightly, "and just what do they do now? Hmm? What do you want them to say or do? Shall they cower in fear or go looking for the problem? You have a plan or ya wouldn't have said anything in the first place. I've yet to see ya without some kind of plan. What is it, so I can prepare at least because.. ya always send me on your damned missions." The more he spoke the more irritated he sounded and by the last sentence he was not smiling at all.
"Yes human I must agree with Bloodhorn what is your plan or next move? Asked Drazoul.
"A plan?" Cogliostro looked and sounded confused, as if the idea baffled him. This time he finds some odd humor in the situation, and releases a short chuckle, more an ironically amused bark than anything.
Xull'rae spoke up. "His plan is to use us like he has been," she did not ask it, her tone blunt.
"All I wanted to do was present each of you with the tale, and let you glean what answers you could from it." Cogliostro looked abashed when Xull'rae stated the obvious and for a flickering moment thought that she had read his mind, but no she was just keenly perceptive. She was becoming a very good resource, but at the same time a dangerous one which he was counting on. "Hmph, yes, that too." He reluctantly added in a bit more gruffly then he intended.
"You mean you have not idea what you want us to do after giving us this information? You may have signed our death warrents!" Horock all but shouted in outrage and shock.
The response from Xull'rae was snapping disgust. "Stop sniveling! Wimp!"
A slight shrug is offered to Horock, from Cogliostro as a soft frown settled upon his olive-hued visage. "And that would mean what to me? You are employees of a sort, so you are tools. Tools are to be used. If one should break, you simply go get another." He knew he sounded cold and did not care. It was the truth, however much he disliked it.
Drazoul shot Xull'rae a thunderous look for her comment on his companion, but his anger was directed at Cogliostro though his voice was cold calm. "If you have no plan human then I'm afraid I must then take things into my own hands. It's not so good finding out everything about me is a lie."
Bloodhorn waited for the majority to say their piece before he chuckled some more and shrugged again. "As you wish. Though I think you're full of it, as most times human"
Xull'rae met Drazoul's stare. Amber colored eyes gazed beyond the hood, and they were pure ice. "What do you feel must be done? You shouldn't rely on him to give you direction."
The more Cogliostro studied Xull'rae and her personality the more he liked her. Dangerous indeed but he smiled agreement and said. "Thank you."
Bloodhorn smirked upon hearing Cogliostro's comment. "Ahhh the old tool bit."
The bald mage let his irritation slip in responding to the Githyanki "You stand to gain the most, Saer Bloodhorn, so you should be content."
Bloodhorn shook his head, getting another bottle to drink from and shrugged as if what the human said didn't really change his mind. "If it were up to me, I'd take was 'mine' and head back to my traveling. But since thats not possible can we at least kill something... soon?" The last part was muttered.
Horock glares at Xull'rae from across the room. Somewhat over his rage over the situation and her words, his voice sounded steady at least when he spoke them though it was a low growl "I can understand all of that! But, at this time, I have nothing more to say to you. I need to figure out what the nine hells is true in my life and what was not." He gave her a warning look for emphasis as he added in lower and colder tones. "You can go ahead and snicker if you want, I don't expect any sympathy from you. Perhaps, if situations were reversed, you would feel a bit nervous, eh?"
Xull'rae shook her head ruefully at the dog who was trying to become a wolf. "A revelation! Bravo. You may live a lil longer with that insight. Maybe." Her tone was dry as she nodded to him, partially agreeing to no sympathy.
But Horock didn't stop, he pushed right on, his anger rising. "Oh, but wait, what I am thinking? You are my Jabress so I must treat you with as much respect as I want, but know this. Everything I know is almost certainly a lie, and I don't like it. So, stop baiting me before I get really angry."
Xull'rae sounded amused as she responded, "and what will you do if you get angry little boy?" Despite the truth that Xull'rae was younger than Horock did not matter as her tone faded to certainty. "You are sad. Nervous no. Death is a part of life. As for me I give all for my deity. My life is in the hands of a higher power, if that power sees fit that I die, I will, not without a fight but I will without fear."
Cogliostro sighed and shook his head. Horock always seemed to take things the wrong way and then his temper flared, while Xull'rae was stating truth as she saw it. Horock had a lot to learn and catch up on if he was to remain in the red heads care. "And right now, you two should prepare. In silence I hope." Referring to Xull'rae and Horock. "Faith not enough to bind you together?"
Drazoul spoke up before either could reply his words coming out in a haste. "Jabress I must agree with your observation," he then spoke again in yuan-ti to Horock, giving him a pointed look. "We must first find out about that drowess. Not arguing with that one. Then from there we shall plot our course we shall use who ever can help and dispose of whoever is in our way."
As soon as Horock had said his words he immediately wished he could take them back. He sat back, fuming, he needed to calm down, and Drazoul was helping a little.
Despite his anger though he felt a sudden chill as Xull'rae calmly replied in a tone so soft, so self assured, he wish he could cringe, but he stayed steady amazingly. "Have you forgotten who you serve? she asked, "if so I can dispatch of you quickly enough. Not here upon the request of the human but you should know never to threaten me. Our God is very prone to backstab and grudges..do keep that in mind." As she continued however he frowned uncertainly as truth seared at his mind more than her promise of death. "Life handed you a raw deal get over it and grow some hard bullocks! You poor sorry excuse for a drow. If it's a battle you want, fine. Bring it on! But some advice to you, don't sleep anymore, because I take threats as something real and as the order to guard you is still in effect well I all I have to say is you got snippy, and well underling that you are, needed to be taught respect. The dogma can be worked around and if not I'll happily take the consequences of any punishment dealt on behalf of your death. I will live with the knowledge that I culled a weak link from the faithful." |

Posted - 06 May 2004 : 20:31:33 Seeing as it's been a few days, and I've not posted anything, I've decided to show why I do not greet folks in character in Candlekeep. Aside from the above excerpt with Cogliostro, here is one with one of her own faithful greeting her at the Tower of Masked Mage in Sshamath:
Xull'rae was stepping out of her room now, dressed all in black, down to her boots. Her mask was around her neck for now, exposing her face and its exotic features. Pretty to most if they looked past eyes that were amber colored instead of red, and coppery hair instead of white, which was pulled up into a neat bun. The white streak added a contrast to it and perhaps a bit of vibrancy as well. Her tiny skilled hands were lacing her shirt to conceal an ample bosom as she moved forward.
Horock walked into the main entryway of the tower. As he walked back in, he saw one female drow, her mask off, looking around the tower, as if looking for something or someone. Instantly, he was afraid, not knowing what he should do, if it was part of the death mark on him or not. But, he couldn't help by being curious as to why a female drow would be here, in the tower of Vhaeraun. Maybe she was a masked traitor, he did not know. He decided after a moment of reluctance to go up and introduce himself, saying, "good afternoon milady. My name is Horock. What may I ask is yours?" He hoped she wouldn't take offense, as he could tell she was powerful by the way she simply carried herself, graceful, confident, and purposeful.
The cloaked figure of the Malaugrym was somewhere in the vicinity, turning one of the many corners to find himself in the main hallway. As usual his cowl was tugged low over his face, hiding a majority of his features save the chiseled lower half, and while in darkness, kept his drow disguise in check, those deep crimson orbs burrowed through burning like coal. He caught a glimpse of the meeting off in the distance and decided to stand his ground, a hint of smile twitching at the corner of tiers, moving close enough to hear, yet that was all.
The drowess stopped as soon as she heard a voice, obviously speaking to her as he seemed to be looking at her and not many others were around. She raised a copper colored brow at his "politeness" or stupidity, she didn't know which. The gaze she gave him was penetrating, boring into him, accessing him where he stood before she frowned slightly. Her pert mouth showing her irritance if nothing else. "New to the Tower?" Her tone was casual but he could tell she would not answer until he did first.
Deep in thought, Horock stood there for a minute, wondering why she had not just answered his question. However, he knew it would be better to just answer, so he replied, "yes, I am new to the tower, though not to Vhaeraun's faith. I am in hiding from some people that want to kill me for, shall we say, doing some adverse things to their people. I don't think they should be, what I am to say about a death mark? So, being a priest, I was brought in here to help protect me." He waited for her reply, now sure she was angry at him for being so quick tongued, so he tried to look as meek as possible.
There wasn't much else for Sszordrin, the disguised malaugrym to do, aside from standing off in the distance, casually glancing around like as he too, were new to the temple, while truthfully standing around to pick up on their conversation. He was nosy in some aspects, but also knew that the more information one had, the better of they'd be in the future, a lesson well learned in his past.
Having a temper was a terrible flaw for one so small with great beauty to match, but Xull'rae reigned it in and sighed in exasperation sensing they were being eavesdropped on and thought it best to correct the "youngin'" since he was of the faith and it was her duty to protect her own. "Name is Xull'rae, and first off don't refer to our God as Vhaeraun unless it's an outsider. Here at the Temple he's usually known as The Masked Lord or the Shadow as a few names. Second do not ever blurt everything about yourself unless you trust me and everyone that overhears us right now. Remember this is a 'thieves den' and as followers of the Masked One, backstabbing is a virtue here. Third, don't ever use that polite goody goody addressing crap anymore, if you do I'll kill you, thinking you're a paladin in disguise got it?"
I'm much nicer than Xull'rae, though I'm sure Vesz'aun's mun would question that! |
Xullrae Zauviir |
Posted - 04 May 2004 : 04:29:48 Well I couldn't find a better place to show Xull'rae's attitude, then take most of our first log and post it here.
It's not the full log, but it is the majority of it, re-edited until I hear from the "head" what is acceptable.
A note: Cogliostro is arrogant, hardly anyone likes him. Yes Ves'zan got the inspiration for the name from Spawn.
Xull'rae stopped once she was within the chamber, taking note of her new found surroundings, her stance said she preferred to stand and the shake of the hood declined the drink. The voice the came within the confines of the piwafwi was hard toned but soft and dusky in melody with a richness that belied the drowic accent as she spoke undercommon "Just state the business' deal, I have no want to be idle with just senseless talk, I have better things to do Rivven."
Casually taking the bottle to hand, Cogliostro proceeded to empty a small amount of its contents into one of the glasses, quirking a single, salt-and-pepper brow in her direction as he listened, his free hand scratching idly at the neat trimming of hair upon his chin. A nod was offered to her as the bottle was set down. "I was told you would be spirited, though I had not expected quite so much bluntness. Very well," A slight pause as he quaffs down the contents of his glass, then he continues. "I take it that your superiors had not offered you much information about our...arrangement."
"They never do, that's what being a superior is about I'm guessing," her tone changed to irritation though not entirely directed at him.
"I also take it said superiors may not like you very well. Ah, this will be quite the frustrating endeavor for us both, I fear." Finishing the contents of his glass, he proceeds to refill it. "Ah well, there will be plenty of time to rectify our situation, and perhaps learn to tolerate one another."
"Pharaun likes no one that he feels threatened by," Xull'rae replied.
"Hm, I had gotten the impression that he liked no one at all. At any rate, I will fill you in on specifics if I must."
Xull'rae cut him off before he could say more. "As for tolerance I have little but what I have will be given if it means I and my deity's church is the one to benefit from the arrangement."
Mm, no worries there," replied the bald man, "your church benefits well from this arrangement. If you are wise enough, you will benefit personally as well, as time goes on." The shrouded woman gave a shrug as if it mattered not if he explained, knowing full well she was stuck with him and this deal.
"Now, you are to serve me and my endeavors to the full extent of your abilities, as time allows. It goes without saying that any tasks that your church would ask of you come first. And what business you must needs take care of in order to keep your ruse going at your other temple. Other than that, you are at my disposal. Your personal matters come dead last. Serve me well and ably, and perhaps I will allow for more leeway."
Within the hood, anger flashed across her dark face, but she knew he could not see it and with some effort made her voice conversational. "So sit on my bum, making things completely difficult for you, to where you pull out your remaining hairs, that’s my job. Gotcha, I will do to them to the full extent of my abilities as requested."
A sour frown is offered to the drowess, and she smiled at being able to return the barb 'ere the human refills and summarily empties his glass once more, in a quick manner. When finished, his large form rises from the table, inadvertently towering over her diminutive form. "Yes, this will indeed be a most interesting ‘partnership’..... You have one Ride until you are to report for duty. Unless you have some means of instant transport, I would not tarry long in this city 'ere departing for Sshamath," Cogliostro’s tone was serious and matter of fact.
"I'd watch how you choose words. Things like serve and partnerships are terrible phrases that could be misunderstood." The small woman craned her neck to look at him. She stood not even to his chest as her exotic amber eyes gazed at him with sharp intent. Her face more exposed now, and the sharp planes of her features showed undoubted drow hatred mixed with its dark beauty of a young woman who was indeed spirited and whose pert mouth showed a frown that was visible but could be mistaken as a pout at the delicate way her lips were shaped. Undaunted, his own oak-brown gaze locked with hers for a moment, then a forcibly polite, thin-lipped, humor-tinged smile crept upon his ageless visage. "Ah yes, the perfect picture of drow beauty and arrogance you are. Dark tidings to you, drowses," with that said, he turned away dismissing her, fully aware he was exposing himself to her possible depredations. Parting the beaded doorway, intent on leaving.
Xull'rae debated on trying attacking him now, for she was rash when her temper flared, but she did not elevate to priesthood so young by being stupid, she would know her enemy before she struck. Both of them would live this night. As the human left, he could still feel the hatred of her eyes upon him.

Posted - 04 May 2004 : 01:36:01 Hm, some actual interest here, eh? Cool
Heh, it suprises me, yes.
I think I'll go scrounge through some logs before hitting the sack, and try to find some tidbits to show Xull's darker, colder side as well.
There are tons of snippets to show various aspects of their relationship, if that is to be the core theme behind these discussions. Lots of other stuff too, of course.
If its humor you want, that we have in abundance, albeit in miniscule moments strewn throughout the campaign's history.
There are about 90 current campaign logs right now, with additional partial logs laying about as well, but Xull has only been able to edit and place into story form about 26 of them so far (lotta work involved in doing that, s'why I pawn it off on her ). I'll concede to help edit some of the raw session logs though, if it'll help, lots of the better stuff in there
You may want to send Alaundo a link to the story site, Xull, and let him browse it over if he wishes. I emphasise browse, as a good amount of the beginning is "fluff" generated only to get introductions of some of the characters into the campaign underway. Well, point him in the right direction for the Log download zip file for that matter, which contains all ( or at least most ) of the logs in raw, unedited form. Very hard to read those, sadly, as color and differing fonts and such which help delineate one character from another during gameplay do not carry over in the transition from chat room to log.
Anywho, thanks to those who have shown interest, for as Xull already mentioned, its nice to partake in such discussions with others. *nods for emphasis and leaves with a smile*

Posted - 04 May 2004 : 01:12:56 She may tread the path of Chaotic Neutral one day, she is certainly headed in that direction, but every time she heads away from herself, something or someone snaps her back. The underlying drow defense mechanism is to kill, doesn't matter the reason, it's still accepted and therefore an evil act.
I still have to filter through some logs to show aspects of Xull'rae and get back to Alaundo, about submissions to the library.
Thanks to all who have taken an interest, I do so love deep discussion.
Sexual tension is laced throughout our campaign.
To give some background to Xull and Vesz, they had not coupled in the 10 years they've known each other until just recently. Which now has opened many dangerous doorways and put Vesz'aun in overdrive for what is "his" and what is acceptable to his standards. While Xull'rae abides this to experiment on his emotions and the thing called Love, in her own twisted way.
Can't post anything to that effect yet, as I've not broken the logs in actual story format yet.
Let me respond to the kind head moderator, and see what excerpts of Xull'rae I can scrounge up for you all! |
Wood Elf Ranger |
Posted - 03 May 2004 : 23:21:56 Perhaps Chaotic Neutral would be more fitting? I agree it is hard to pin on alignments or even choosing one to follow through with it.
I am enjoying your posts so far I know this is bad but I love to read about the sexual tension that occurs in a situation like the drow race where one gender is clearly dominant. I just find it very interesting is all Especially when coupled with the fact that your character worships Vhaeraun who considders both genders equal. |
Xullrae Zauviir |
Posted - 03 May 2004 : 22:24:19 That would also be up to the rest of your player's on your board, unless you mean the long "flashback" I posted there?
Either way, one will show her sympathy for male treatment, while the flashback will show her intentions and doubts in being in Vhaeraun's church.
Perhaps Xull'rae is going soft and gentle?
In all honesty, I have no clear ending to Xull'rae set. My point in her creation was to show a female side to a FR pantheon that was drow but not dominated by Lloth yet at the same time would revolt against the call of Eilistraee.
Her alignment is nuetral evil, but many folks who have gamed with me, questions that alignment. Vesz'aun (also my DM) disagrees and has said out of all alignments that fits her best.
We both agree that alignments are hard to tag.
Maybe the more tidbits I give, the more feedback I'll get on how people perceive her nature.
I certainly do not want her classified as good, but neither was she designed to be a killing machine with no emotion. |
