Hail!

The Brothers of Doom are a duo of kilt-wearing, haggis eating, sheep loving, mercanary warriors from the Moonshaevian island of Moray. The first half was a grim, brutal man of dwarflike brawn and stature remembered only as the Reacher. The Reacher hailed from the powerful Morayan clan Mac Art, whose "reavers" often struck fear into the hearts of northman communties throughout the isles.

The other half of the Brothers of Doom was a charismatic, graceful, and ruggedly handsome man by the name of Stradidar. Stradidar was born to the clan MacFinnian, which was wiped out by a raiding group of northmen when Stradidar was but a young man (by barbarian standards, ie. 13/14). In the coming years he would be taught the art of swordsmanship by a mysterious hermit known only as the Prince of Swords, and gifted with the legendary blade, Deathrise, one of the fabled nine swords of power. As a result of his skill and the power of Deathrise, Stradidar would eventually become known as the Swordwielder.

Many are the stories of the Brothers of Doom as they blazed their way across Faerun during the 40's and 50's. This is a recap of one of them ...

With the eruption of civil war in Yulash the Brothers of Doom moved north from Urmlaspyr to enlist in the army of Lord Melvuth Greystone of the House of Greystone. Over the course of the next year they completed a number of missions and scored many fine military victories for House Greystone; soon finding themselves ranking officers and confidants of Lord Greystone himself.

As the war heated up, the Zhents began to back certain factions in the war, sending their troops in under the aegis of "peace-keepers". Hillsfar responded in kind, offering Melvuth (amongst others) its aid. The Brothers of Doom strongly discouraged Melvuth from accepting an outside alliance, and he followed their counsels. Unfortunately, within the month Melvuth was assassinated and the Brothers of Doom captured and thrown into the arena at Hillsfar.

The Brothers of Doom defeated all comers and soon won the favour of the crowd. As a result of this, Maalthiir promised to reward them with their freedom if they face and completed his nine trials ...in which they faced some of the most terrible monsters one could safely place within a gladitorial arena, ie. no dragons.

Once again, the Brothers defeated all comers. However, while Maalthiir
postured for the crowd, he had the Morayans drugged and imprisoned in the deepest reaches of Hillsfar's dungeons. Within a fortnight however, the Brothers of Doom were aided in escaping by the traitorous Red Plume, Capt. Braccio. En route, they stoled Maalthiir's prized possession, the Emerald Tear, and then headed for Braccio's family estate in Ordulin.

Maalthiir sent a number of assassins to kill the Brothers of Doom and retrieve the Tear, but none were ever heard from again. And so Maalthiir hired the feared wizard-assassin, Thistlelork of Thay, to do the job, but the Brothers defeated both Thistlelork and his minions. The Morayans then took the Thayvians severed head, cut the rune of warning into it, and then have it devlivered to Maalthiir.

Little is heard of Stradidar and the Reacher until they appear as companions of Midnight during the Avatar Wars. According t oMorayan bards Stradidar and Midnight were lovers until the latter ascended to godhood. Stradidar was also made this offer by Oa, but figured, as he was already Morayan, it would be redundent. It is also told that the BoD heaped much abuse upon the knave called Cyric during their quest, forcing him to dig the latrines and other such abrasive nastiness. Some say that this abuse led to Cyric's eventual madness.

Frith!
