Alright, I am finally getting back into the game after being away for 10 years. Currently creating my elven ranger, cliched I know. But he was to be a Witchhunter, figured I should start off with something simpler. Anyway any advice and input would be nice, may post progress as it unfolds.

I'm doing this now, and my original ELVEN WIZARD idea.

No problem, I went ahead and made some edits too, didn't think of them until I posted.

Sounds like good advice to me, thank you idilippy!

As a Pathfinder ranger, once you can get it (think it's a 3rd level spell) instant enemy is a go-to spell. Archery is easy to become great at, just take the logical feats that scream "for archers" to you (Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Deadly Aim, and Rapid Shot should be a good start), keep your strength up, grab a composite longbow , make friends with a wizard or bard who uses the haste spell, and shoot anything that pops into range a half-dozen or so times each combat round until it is dead. Later on feats like clustered shot keep damage resistance from worrying you, and if you are worried about concealment or cover Improved Precise Shot is available as a Ranger bonus feat at level 6, Point Blank Master is nice if you want to keep shooting while up close and personal to an enemy and don't want to provoke attacks of opportunities. Then just be sure that your ranger favored enemy will actually be seen in the adventure (you can rarely go wrong with Human, Evil Outsider, or Undead as a favored enemy if you have no idea what to expect) and decide if you want to have a pet or not. If you are really worried about being mechanically effective search for "Treantmonk's Guide Ranger" for some better formatted advice for the Pathfinder core rules only, if the other players aren't all heavy optimizers though just halfway trying at archery will make you great and you can put your effort into the role playing side of the character without worrying about falling behind on the gaming side.

Actually Diffan, I have OFFICIALLY decided to use Pathfinder exclusively. No other ruleset or D&D edition, I believe Pathfinders tweaked and streamlined version of 3.5e is where I am most comfortable. So thank you, my fellow sage!

Thanks Diffan, well for now I figured I'd stick with 3.5e seeing as how it's widely used. Unfortunately, I do not have a game yet but I wanted to create this character for now. If need be, I'd start with a different editon depending on the campaign rules of whichever DM's game I join. I might stay as a Ranger for now, or perhaps delve into FINALLY making Alruane. I have always wanted to introduce him into the realms.

From your other threads, I'm going to make the assumption that your going with Pathfinder as your game of choice. For mechanical advice, I'd say go with the usual Archery style feats (Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Many Shot, etc). Further, ask your DM if your allowed to delve into Dragon articles, for there is this feat called Dead Eye that allows you to add your Dexterity Modifier to your ranged attacks.

For spells, I'm not honestly sure but there were a slew of good ones from the Spell Compendium. Not sure if your allowed access to that material or not, so I'd ask first.
