Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 07:51:54 Hello fellow Sages of Candlekeep!
I have been having the itch to do some role-playing for a while now, but none in the area to play with so I've decided to run a Pathfinder Rules campaign in the Forgotten Realms Setting starting around 1369 or even as far as 1372 as a Play-by-Post campaign.
First and foremost I'd like to see if anyone would want to be in such a campaign so feel free to pin your name here or privately send me a letter to my box (PM) to show interest in playing.
However, ladies and men of good or ill repute I have some requirements that I shall unveil to you now so some of your most basic of inquires can be answered to see if this campaign is for you.
The requirements are as follows:
1. Must at least post once every other day but would prefer at least once a day, but I am flexible if real life needs your attention more than the game at hand. It is a game after all so a notification would be preferable if you'd be absent for long periods of time and you have knowledge beforehand of conflicts.
2. As for characters the standard races with some minor exceptions of standard races presented in the 3.0 FRCS handbook will be allowed for the campaign. I know playing vampires, werewolves, and other powerful creatures are on the rage to play these days by most, but for game balance I am excluding them unless I am given a really, REALLY good story as to why your character should be the exception. And I'm expecting heavy originality and an epic masterpiece of handwriting that I just can't lay down. So if you can do that by all means send it in and I'll consider it, but no promises I'll even accept it after that. However, I'll thank you for the excellent read!
3. The campaign I would like to run would be a stand alone campaign setting from the books. That doesn't mean I'm throwing them out the window just that the events you may be intertwined with and might even have a slight impact on, but they will not be the focal point of this campaign. This campaign will be a Cloak and Dagger and Adventuring Campaign centered around Waterdeep (Yes - the City of Splendors) in a splinter organization of the City Watch and Guard of elite investigators that answers only to the Open Lord himself. The sole purpose of this organization is ferreting out threats to the city's well being. If it helps think of yourselves as an elite group brought together to take on threats both foreign and domestic that are just above the pay grade of any normal Watchmen or Guardsmen.
4. Classes are pretty much open to all (even monk, druids, and barbarian, but you will have to ask permission before hand and give me a solid concept as to why you are playing these odd characters in a C&D group and part of the world). Some may say why would a ranger or paladin be good for a C&D, but I think they fit so I'm not putting a restriction on the class.
5. Finally, I am not keen on having evil characters in a party. They seem to always break up parties (or, in most cases, ends up getting killed by the party members or them killing the party) so I'm not allowing those alignments. I am, however; willing to bend certain restrictions slightly to allow certain concepts with restrictions on prestige classes, but I think most classes such as the rogue in PF cover the need for those that want to be assassin-like without actually taking the assassin prestige class. Also as a final note I have no real need to have everyone fill every niche in the party. It would be nice to have a decent composition for the sake of ease on you guys, but if you all go all rogues that works too. It'll just make you more reliant on outsiders for other areas of expertise, which gives me even more ways to make you paranoid - I mean - help you guys out!
Anyways, there you are I hope to see some interest, because I would like to GM again and play with some people in the setting I love and enjoy! Hopefully we will have this PbP up in running in The Inn here shortly! |

Posted - 12 Oct 2010 : 05:35:45 Sorry all, was busy painting the house this past week and weekend. I'll read up on your posts here and get back to posting more regularly.
Sill Alias, apply the elf statistics from Pathfinder to it. That is what a standard moon and sun elf as stat racial adjustments, which I believe is +2 Int and Dex, - 2 Con. Other statistics just use what is provided on them individually. |

Okay...I think I made standard roll. Now I should apply moon elf racial +2dex and -2con? |

Posted - 08 Oct 2010 : 23:06:17 Hello there to you, too! No, just reading things over and helping out where I can is all. I've been in two PbP games here, and both ended sadly. I might be cursed, and Telethian is all out of remove curse spells to cast on me.
I hope you're having a great time, and if I can help at all with the Pathfinder rules, please let me know! |

Posted - 08 Oct 2010 : 08:13:01 Want to create fighter/cleric. Just wondering if I must use the class features in the pathfinder. And by set you meant standard roll of six times? I am pretty new to this, to be honest. |

Posted - 06 Oct 2010 : 06:32:09 Sill Alias, no it isn't too late to join, but you won't be joining in the current combat. What the rules are is that you must have Pathfinder Core Rulebook, and standard races in the FRCS 3.0 book. Drow, Druegar, and Svirfneblin need special permission to play with a strong concept. Alignment restrictions are standard with no Evil ones. You get one free regional feat to pick from from the 3.5 Player's Guide to the Realms. Class options are anything in the Pathfinder Core book, but druids and or barbarian classes need a concept as to why they are in a C&D campaign. Currently we have quite a few caster types and multi-classes. You can pick any class you want, but just informing you of what we have to help you gauge what role you may want to play.
Edit: Also rolling method is 4d6, drop the lowest, reroll lowest stat, and one set. If you don't have at least a 14 and a +1 total bonus for the set, reroll the entire set. You also start at level 3 with only 900 gold plus regional equipment that you get for your region you pick to be from. I need a concept of your character and what motives or loyalties they have at game start - if any.
Alystra Illianniis, those look okay to take by me. Just make sure you inform me what spells you pick when and if you change any or select when you level up. |

Posted - 04 Oct 2010 : 06:47:09 The spells are Silken Glue and Silken Rope, both from the d20 book Ultimate Arcane Spellbook. Level 0 and 1, respectively. Essentially, the first one creates a small glob that sticks to things and can hold objects together, stick feet to floors, etc. The other one is like a strand of rope with a sticky end that can he "shot" over a distance to make a sturdy climbing rope, or to cross wide gaps, grapple from a distance, or whatever. I may add a couple more later on, but won't be using these until next level, unless I decide to switch out something already on his list. (Not sure I want to keep a couple of the ones I have or not.) |

Posted - 04 Oct 2010 : 05:52:18 Hi.
I wonder if I could join in in the middle. It looks pretty fun.
If I am allowed, tell me the needed stuff and guides to use. Oh, and I have a GMT +6.00. Will that be a problem? |

Posted - 01 Oct 2010 : 07:52:45 I think we may have lost Diffan and/or Sian. I'll wait on them a few days to respond though before I say for certain or not. If that is the case, I guess I'll come to that bridge when it gets here.
Also Balduran I need an initiative roll for your character for his place in the order. |

Posted - 25 Sep 2010 : 09:41:42 My apologies all. Got caught up in some real life things at the moment. I will post here shortly either later on in the day or tomorrow at the latest. Hope you all are enjoying the campaign so far! However, if you have any critiques or suggestions feel free to say. Feedback is the only way I know if I'm doing a good job or not, and able to adjust what needs it. Anyways, just figured I'd give you all an update. |

Posted - 25 Aug 2010 : 23:34:41 If any of you want to just talk amongst yourself you can between your characters until tomorrow. It got kind of busy for me today so I left it open-ended if you all wanted to leave for the night or stick around until you guys want to head out tomorrow morning as a team. Since you all live in Waterdeep, aside from Balduran's char, you don't have to stay in the barracks it is just an option. Either case I'll have you all meet Bron tomorrow and will just have you all meet up there unless of course your character might want to dig up some information on their own, which I would be happy to oblige. Just put in the invisible script/spoiler color in the thread to let me know you are doing something on your own. |

Unfortunately I am going to have to respectfully bow out, my motherboard in m laptop decided to fry, and I will be without computer for the unforseen future, plus Im about to PCS(that means move for the uninitiated into military jargon). Thank you for the offer, and perhaps I could join later when I get thigns settled, if not enjoy the campaign.
I see the excuse : my horse has been slaughtered by wolves in my way, hence my delay among you . :) |

Posted - 19 Aug 2010 : 22:42:41 Quite alright. Hope things will be on the up and up for you here in the future. If things settle down we can sit down and see if we can't get you into the campaign or not when and if that becomes an option. :) |

I vote we keep this thread up and going for a place to meet OOC and for questions, feat ideas, PrC upgrades/changes, etc...
And Abenabin, speaking of the Morninglord of Lathander PrC, my friend and I re-did the class to incorporate the changes to Channel Positive Energy, class requirements, and such (though we changed it to be used for the PF deity Sarenrae). I'll post them here if you'd like.
Sure, if you are willing. I'll give it a read and see if it is what I would do, but if it is balanced and all I'll probably use it.
Edit: Also we will be using this as our OCC board as it was suggested. So feel free to chat about the campaign or lurkers may post here as well for this thread is for that if you just want to talk with any of us. |
