A while ago I was involved in a very interesting 2ED game where myself as a Cleric of TORM accompanied another group of adventuers on a quest. In our adventure, we travelled through the Infinite Staircase (my favourite place in the realms) and into the Abyss (i think).

I was wondering if there is any maps available for the Outer Planes, particularly the Beastlands, Abyss and especially Sigil.

Secondly, is Sigil effectively the doorway to heaven? After all, it does rest in the centre of the Outer Planes and is connected to each of the independant planes?

They can be. Although in my campaigns, they are normally just 'massive cirles that appear to go on forever' with large iron cities floating above them, instead of firmly planted on the ground.

There are a number of interesting landmarks (in most cases too many to cover here) for each of the three Outer Planar locations that are the topic of this thread.

First lets start with the Beastlands -

Triberove, is actually a mobile landmark. They are a tribe of wemic nomads who roam the plains of Krigala searching for game. The tribe believe that the plane if alive, and treat it with a special religious reverence.
The Seelie Court, probably one of the more better known landmarks anywhere in the Outer Planes. This is the realm of the chaotic faeries, and their queen Titania. Most of the realm is composed of open-air regions where the faeries live and craft among the trees, thickets, and toadstool-ringed hills. It should be remembered by all who visit that this is first and foremost, the court of the Seelie, and as such a certain level of conduct is expected.
The Owl Lord's Soar, this is the domain of the Lord of Owls. It resides in the low branches of Karasuthra's night-growing trees, and should be remembered as the land of silence. Very little escapes the attention of the Lord of Owls, and all who visit should be prepared for the possibility of a 'winged death' should the visitor's intent cause any ill to the realm.

Okay, now onto the Abyss -

The Plain of Infinite Portals, as the name suggests, this realm virtually leads to all the other layers of the Abyss (most, not all) through a means of portal connections. It is a miserable place full of huge holes, iron fortresses and large craters.
Zrintor - the Viper Forest, home of one of the largest concentrations of viper trees. The only real reason this forest is 'famous' (or rather infamous) is because of it's connection to the Abyssal lord Graz'zt.
Naratyr, is the home of (depending upon which edition cosmology you are using) Kiaransalee, and I really don't think there is a need for anything more to say.

And finally the City of Doors, Sigil -

Nearly everything point in Sigil is a landmark, for some reasons that may be known to everybody, or just one person peddling a trade on a street corner. Perhaps some of the most famous landmarks are the factions headquarters (now mostly destroyed or abandoned, post FW). I'll send you some details on these, since it would take too long to describe them here.

Yes, my point exactly. Any of the evil outer planes is a nasty place to be. I know because I too speak from experience. Try fighting a Balor and his Succubi and Glaabrezu minions on their home plane. I wasn't alone either and had preist/mage of Azuth, a fighter/priest of Thor, a thief and a preist/mage of Set, all at least 13th lvl. Even with that lvl of party, we barely accomplished our goal and escaped alive. The Abyss is not a place to tread lightly and praise is for anyone who can go there and survive to tell the tale.

Could I point out that there were five of us in the party when we entered and after meeting the very first opponent there was a rather dissapointing outcome:

The Dwarven Fighter of the party was pinned down by some strange which tried to drag him into the Blood War,

The Elven Wizard was affected with a Fear power while wearing boots of speed, so no one could catch him fleeing,

The Human Cleric passed out upon sight of the creature, and was surrounded by Feyr.

Leaving myself and the dwarven cleric alone with this thing... Nasty.

Sounds good, I will have a search for the items you have listed. If I ever come across anything not mentioned I will post it on, apparently there is a very limited amount of maps, but I can understand why.

The planes are only as big as the DM makes them, but can anyone name (and hopefully describe) a few landmarks which can be found in the prevoiusly names Outer Planes?

Oh, and another thing to remember is that, when visiting the Abyss, in most cases the additional layers can only be accessed from the first layer - the Plane of Infinite Portals. Remember, I said 'in most cases...'

Both Yasraena, and Arivia have pretty much covered the basics for the questions you have posed NightElf.

To add some information to what has already been said about maps for such planar destinations as the Beastlands, the Abyss and Sigil - such boxed sets as Planes of Chaos (for a number of interesting maps of the Abyss...well a few layers anyway), Planes of Conflict (for the Beastlands map) and the PSCS, all have a nice variety of maps available for the particular areas you have mentioned. In fact, in most cases, with regard to Sigil, it is simply best to think of it as a 'torus' or 'doughnut' and a city that spans the entire length of the inside of the torus, suspended above the 'infinitely' tall Spire.

Sigil is called tbe City of Doors for a reason, that reason being links to every last plane that exists. If you're looking for a portal to a particular plane, you couldn't do better than Sigil. The particulars that have prevented Sigil from just becoming some planar highway is that a: you have to find these portals and b: you have to have the proper key to go through them. Sigil is the planar crossroads, it just might take you a little while to find the link to your heaven...

Yeah, NightElf! Anyone that's been to the Abyss and has lived to tell the tale deserves a hearty "right on!"

The only map of the Abyss that I know of is the very limited one that comes in the old module H4-The Throne of Bloodstone. Some cool things in that map, although as I said, very limited considering the actual size of the place.

If anyone knows of any other maps (player made or canon) please let us know!!!

If I understand Sigil correctly, it is effectively the doorway to not only the Abyss, but to any other plane there is. It isn't called the City of Doors for nothing, right?
