Part 1: The Basics

What is your full name?

Eamnonn Oathsidhe of Baldur’s Gate

Where and when were you born?

A walled cottage in the region of the Western Heartlands known as the Fields of the Dead on 23 Mirtul, 1353 DR the Year of the Arch.

Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

Iago and T'ien Qian Oathsidhe are his parents. Iago was once a well-known craftsman living in Baldur’s Gate, he carved darkwood furniture and panels for some of the wealthiest patrons of that city, he is now retired and spends most of his days carving for friendly neighbors and the like. T'ien Qian is the daughter of the wealthy merchant and matrial-artist Meng Lau Kang and is of Shou decent. Meng Lau Kang owned a mighty merchant fleet, and disproved of Eamnonn’s mother wedding a lowly craftsman from Baldur’s Gate. Meng Lau Kang has passed now though, to the realms of whatever deity he held as his patron.

Currently T'ien Qian is their only source of steady income, as she sells half of what is produced in the small field behind the cottage, including a spiced mushroom wine made with shrooms harvested from a nearby cavern.

Iago is stubborn, but quite and calm. He never takes things too seriously and is apt to spontaneous bouts of song and dance. T'ien Qian finds the whole affair amusing and so they are happy together. T'ien Qian is down-to-earth and knows often does all of the planning between the two.

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

Eamnonn has a younger sister by the name of Iona. She is 12 years of age and incredibly strong-willed.

As she matures she has begun to show proficiency in use of the Art and may one day become a powerful sorceress.

Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

Eamnonn currently lives above a Ragefast’s bookshop in the city of Baldur’s Gate. The dwelling was formerly Ragefast’s own domicile. Now, however, since he has had a steady income for a number of years he has been able to purchase a separate home (one to fit his spouse and children). The apartment is accessible via an alleyway alongside the bookshop where a set of iron-wrought steps leads up to a door in the side of the building. Inside the establishment is mostly bare except for an old down mattress and pillows and a small writing desk or dinner table. The south wall of apartment contains sliding wooden doors that reveal a small balcony. The balcony hangs a short way above the door and signpost of the shop. It is useful for when the roof is in need of repairs or a new sign or special deal is being announced and a banner of some sort can be hung here. Eamnonn pays 6 gp per month of stay (the amount a poor room at an inn would cost if rented for a month).

What is your occupation?

Occasionaly, Eamnonn works for Ragefast in his shop. Mostly he writes tales and verses that he attempts to sell or plays in the street for money. His yarting is his major source of income and besides that he is willing to do an odd job or two to make enough for rent.

Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

Eamnonn is 5’11, and weighs 140 lbs. He is a human of mixed heritage (Chondathan/Kara-turan) he is brown eyes (with flecks of green and gray) and brown hair. He wears loose, baggy garments with plenty of pocket room and a cloak with several additional pockets of various sizes and secrecy. He bares no large notable scars nor tattoos (though he is thinking of acquiring one). He looks as if he needs to shave, his jaw constantly lined with stubble, but it’s this nonchalant appearance that so many people find attractive in him. His hair is long and kept in braids that he keeps tied back in a leather strip most of the time, with a few stray braids hanging loose from the rest.

To which social class do you belong?

Eamnonn is a proud member of the city’s lower class, though with his glib tongue he can often mingle freely with whomever he wishes. His parents and background as a descendant of a powerful merchant house also helps in such instances.

Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

Eamnonn is relatively healthy, but he does tend to drink and smoke excessively much.

Are you right- or left-handed?

He is right-handed.

What does your voice sound like?

His voice is powerful and clear, always with a hint of mockery about it.

What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

Oaths to various divine powers spout freely from Eamnonn. He is not very careful about wrathful deities:

“Ooof, did ya see that? Tymora didn’t care much for that fella!”
“By Sune’s red glowin’ tresses!”
“I don’t mean t’ sound rude, but lets get each o’ the nine hells outta here!”

What do you have in your pockets?

A bit of wool, a pin or two, and a few silver pieces.

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

Eamnonn is care-free, and it shows. He enjoys life, but does not go out of his way to make it better for himself or anyone else unless its time for one of his occasional bouts of organization... but he lacks follow-through. He loves to toy with people and get them upset, but he knows how much he can push someone without getting into a fight.

Part 2: Growing Up

How would you describe your childhood in general?

Eamnonn was often frustrated at a child. He grew up in a world full of nobles who hired his father as a craftsman and often times had to dress appropriate when a client came to visit the shop. He wasn’t overly found of hygiene or the restrictions his parents position in society placed on him. Besides that he led a generally care-free childhood.

What is your earliest memory?

His earliest memory is of being carried about the harbor in Baldur’s Gate by his mother, who was walking with his grandfather at the time.

How much schooling have you had?

He was schooled by the finest of scholars, thanks to the insistence of his grandfather, and took his studying very seriously (probably the only thing he has ever taken seriously).

Did you enjoy school?

He loved school, and respects most sages and scholars because of that love.

Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

His expansive knowledge comes from the scholars his grandfather hired to tutor him, and the knowledge he gained rough-housing in the streets of Baldur’s Gate as an adolescent. His skills in charm and negotiation he learned from his father, who is an excellent business man that often times has to impress the nearly un-impressable.

While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

The sages he encountered as a child have left a great impression on him. They were his role models, as well as his father, whom Eamnonn has always looked up to.

While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

Eamnonn was a feisty child, so he didn’t tend to get along with his parents through that period. Becoming an adolescent he grew to respect the wisdom age provided them and has worked to repay them in anyway possible.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Eamnonn dreamt of one day owning his own impressive fleet of ships and sailing the around the world to visit the great sages of every land. He wanted to be a scholar and explorer.

As a child, what were your favorite activities?

Rough-housing in the streets of Baldur’s Gate, studying, practicing the Yarting (which his father carved for him), and generally causing as much mischief as possible.

As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

He showed wanderlust, mischeviousness, playfulness, and a great deal of curiosity.

As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?

He was generally well-liked as a child, with few truly close friends. The person he most associated with was a young Gur girl by the name of Chelsa. She was as rough as Eamnonn, and quite charismatic at that. Her family often traveled far, but they’d always return to Baldur’s Gate where she told Eamnonn tales of her travel. However, it has been two years since he’s last seen his friend.

When and with whom was your first kiss?

Playing with Chelsa beyond the Northern city wall Eamnonn earned his first kiss. They were playing Dodge the Troll (tag) and Chelsa was the Troll. Upon pinning Eamnonn she hissed in her most trollish voice “Now give auntie troll-guts a nice big kiss!” thinking that idea of kissing a troll the most gruesome fate imaginable. She startled both of them by actually kissing the boy. They both felt rather nervous about the whole affair and uncertain about what to feel in the situation. Years later this kiss became a bit more.

Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

Eamnonn is not a virgin, he and Chelsa have had a number of short-lived dalliances which from time to time escalated to something more physical. Eamnonn thinks of Chelsa as a lost love, though there was never an admittance from one or the other to represent that claim. He desires more than most things her return to Baldur’s Gate.

If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.

His controlled and demanding childhood has caused him to have little respect for people in power, and fueled his desire to simply live simply as he pleases

Part 3: Past Influences

What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?

His decision to stay in Baldur’s Gate with the small-time sage Ragefast rather than moving to the country with his parents was probably the most important even of his life. It was his breaking away from known comforts and finally being able to stretch his wings and do as he wished.

Who has had the most influence on you?

His parents have had the greatest influence on him. His mothers affinity for music, and his fathers devotion to his craft have both helped shape the Eamnonn of today. That is not say he didn’t have other influences... namely his Grandfather and the Scholars who tutored him throughout the years.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Eamnonn considers his achievements as a student to be his greatest. The knowledge he has collected, and will collect, is what truly gives him pride. He hopes to one day be known for his brilliant mind, though he’d never voice this desire as he naturally steers himself away expressing matters of his ego.

What is your greatest regret?

His greatest regret is not being able to see his little sister grow up. He chose to stay in Baldur’s Gate, and if he returned home now he’d seem rather immature and childish in his parents eyes, not things he desires. He was always very fond of Iona, and that is his only true regret about staying on in the city.

What is the most evil thing you have ever done?

Eamnonn doesn’t consider much of what he does evil, but that doesn’t mean a time or two he hasn’t stolen from someone who probably needed the few silvers in their pocket a lot more than he does.

Do you have a criminal record of any kind?

Eamnonn has been in trouble for street-fights and mischief in the past, but it has been several years since the young scamp he used to be left this plane of existence.

When was the time you were the most frightened?

Once Chelsa and he were playing games late in the evening when they came across an open sewer grate. Chelsa insisted that they investigate, and so the two children descended into the darkness below. There they ran into a number of rats and other scurrying creatures. Eamnonn was absolutely terrified by all that could be lurking in the dark but made no complaints as he didn’t want to look like a coward to the little girl who stood among the crawling things with a look of amusement spread across her face. It was not until the monstrous spider nest that he voiced his terror... and he most certainly voiced it. Chelsa drove away the spider, which was more concerned with protecting it’s nest than enticing the two dangerous humans and didn't follow as they fled the sewer. Since then Eamnonn has always felt nervous in tunnels and things of that sort... and he has developed a dreadful fear of spiders.

What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

Not much compares to the sewer incident. But there were a few short street-fights that ended rather badly that were pretty embarrassing.

If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

Eamnonn would not change much at all about his past. Perhaps he’d have avoided picking certain pockets if he’d known they were so well guarded.

What is your best memory?

Going to the docks with his Grandfather to meet his new tutors as they arrived in the city. The breeze and smell of the sea that accompanied it, and the wrinkled, smiling eyes of the scholars and sages who were to be his devoted mentors have always been his fondest remembrances of childhood.

What is your worst memory?

The time he’s spent waiting for Chelsa to return has probably been the worst time of his life. He steers clear of dalliances with other women and turns to drinking when his lonesomeness engulfs him.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?

Most people would not call him either for his mood changes quite often. He is more optimistic than otherwise, but it really depends on the situation.

What is your greatest fear?

Dying without ever making a name for himself is Eamnonn’s worst fear. Death in general is pretty high on his list of nightmarish realities, as it is for most mortals.

What are your religious views?

Eamnonn does not pay service to any temple in particular, but he swears the occasional oath to several deities. The ones he most reveres, and in the order he reveres them is as follows: Sune, Oghma, Tymora, and Selûne.

What are your political views?

He does not care much for politics or intrigue among nobles, but he is well versed in both. Growing up in such a luxuriant setting has given him a keen awareness of the politics of court life ... and he has chosen to stay out of it. He also prefers that the government stay out of the affairs of normal folk.

What are your views on sex?

Eamnonn views sex as the ultimate truth of love and trust two people can share. He does not view it as a game, or an afternoon recreational activity that one performs with just any person.

Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?

Eamnonn has never killed anyone, and even tries to avoid killing small insects and things. Tossing them out into the street rather than grinding them beneath his heel as Ragefast does. Eamnonn would probably not find killing acceptable in any circumstance, but he would kill if it meant saving the life of himself or another.

In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

Murder is high on Eamnonn’s list of evils that must not occur. He is not much for violence either, though the occasional rough-housing can be quite pleasant, as long as nobody really gets hurt.

Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?

Eamnonn does believe in the existence of soul maters and true love. Both are often the subjects of his verses, which Ragefast often flouts him for, saying that he should spend time composing about something more popular like WARFARE if he ever means to earn a copper with his work.

What do you believe makes a successful life?

Living comfortably with the ones you love and doing what you want to do for a living. His own aspirations are to publish a great ballad or two and then travel the world with Chelsa at his side.

How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e., do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?

Eamnonn is very honest with his thoughts and feelings, sometimes to the point of being incredibly blunt. This often upsets those who are not used to such treatment (i.e., NOBLES).

Do you have any biases or prejudices?

Eamnonn has little respect for social rank and those who make a big fuss about it earn his scorn. He also thinks of himself as better than those of little knowledge and education though he tries to be otherwise. He cannot understand why anyone would rather be out cutting down orcs and giants in some desolate snowy waste than live as a well studied and mostly comfortable citizen of one of Faerûn’s great cities.

Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?

He would never harm an innocent, nor those he has not confirmed are of evil intent. Eamnonn may refuse to do anything at all on a whim. He often takes to flipping a coin to decide whether or not to be involved in certain shady businesses. After all ... if the gods did not wish for him to be involved the coin would’ve landed differently, right?

Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?

Eamnonn would die for his loved ones if it meant sparing them misery. Love is the only thing he sees as being this valuable.
