Posted - 20 Jan 2008 : 18:30:36 As I wrote few days ago, (you should follow what happens on the forum you know ! ) I'm about to create a new character.
The aim of the campaign I hope to join is really roleplaying, more than fighting evil monsters and compiling gold pieces !
In brief, I chose to be a cloistered cleric of Oghma who decides, round 25 years old, to run the Realms. to learn about this class, go here.
So, He's always been living in the Seat of Lore, the Temple of Oghma in Berdusk. He is an adept of the Binder since he was old enough to read alphabet and figures and able to copy scrolls even without understanding what was written on it ! But I'm now sure that it was voluntary from the priests to make him copy these in his early childhood, just before he was able to understand ! But I'm rambling...
The situation today : He really wants to leave the temple to wander through the Realms to discover more knowledge everyday and dispense other one to people.
So, what I need ? On the first hand, I'd like to get advice to play such a cleric. What should I know ? Except from Faiths & Pantheons, Faiths & avatars, FRCS, where could I find information about Namers and clergy of Oghma ? Does it exist a novel where I could meet a cleric of Oghma ?
On the other hand, I look for information sources about my birthplace : Berdusk Does it exist a novel or a sourcebook where I could visit Berdusk ? (except from Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast) Where could I also get information about the Seat of Lore (the temple of Oghma located in Berdusk)
Thanks a lot for any information you will supply. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2008 : 14:51:13 Thanks a lot dear... Loremaster ? Hey ! you're an Oghmanyte ! I should have realize that sooner.
So, I wont reveal my "true name". Read you soon. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2008 : 05:24:23 'The Naming' ceremony reveals the secret "True Name" that is said to represent the young Oghmanyte's true essence. It is not the same thing as the name his/her birth name. The young Oghmanyte's "True Name" is used only during personal prayers made to Oghma, and should not be revealed to anyone else. The faithful of Oghma believe that to reveal one's "True Name" publically, is to give others power over that person. Thus, it must always be kept secret.

Posted - 26 Jan 2008 : 10:49:08 I'm back with another question.
In Faiths and Pantheons, it is written that When he's twelve years old, an Oghmanite is revealed his real name. But what is this real name ? Is it the first name the Oghmanite's parents gave him when he was born or is it the Name The Church choose to give the Namer and which he will use up to the death ? Is it an understandable question ? Just tell me !
If the first answer is the good one, so why does the Church doesn't give its Namers their real name when they entered the clergy ? What is the aim of such a secret ? |

Oh yeah, and the short story by Mark Anthony in Realms of Valor might be useful, as well.
I will try to read King's tear tomorrow.
Thanks to you Matthus. I've got these sourcebooks. |
