Hail fellow scribes!

I finally got around to running my first Realms game last week, and have been thinking of letting you all know how it's getting on, if you're interested.

My tale begins in the frozen North-East, and East of the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale. Somewhere in that vast snowy landscape, between Easthaven and the Reghed Glacier. I decided to set it here partly to avoid the need of excessive reading to set the scene (there's very little information about the area, after all), and also due to the fact that one opf my players, the only one with any knowledge of Realms lore is a huge Icewind Dale fan, mainly from the games.

I've three players whom are in control of a Half-Orc Fighter, a Half Orc Barbarian (they're brothers) and a Dwarven Cleric. An odd mix, I know, but it's leading to some excellent RP. I'm a little concerned at how vague my plot is, however. I've taken a plot hook from the 2nd Edition Savage Frontier, which vaguely mentions a mage of power tormenting the area having befriended a tribe of Snow Giants. The players are currently looking for information on this fellow from a Barbarian Tribes Ancestral Mound (a tribe known as the "Ursks").

There are frozen elven cities beneath a lake, a temple to a forgotten God, as well as the infiltration of an Orc Fortress, all to gain the items needed to foil the plans of this nemesis.

Sound Realmsian enough? Any suggestions, advice, comments or flames are more than welcome. If anyone wants more information (I've been a little vague for fear of boring you all) then I'd be happy to comply.

Well, I've very little information on the elven city at the moment. Think Myth Drannor but transported into and forgotten about for a few thousand years. The players don't know anything about it, therefore I've not had to come up with much. ;) They ran past a hill emerging from the lake, whilst escaping from a horde of Goblins. They found nought but two robed statues carved into the mountain, and an ornately carved doorway, with a block of ice barring the way.

Unknown to them, the town of Bell Frost (upon the shore of the lake) houses an immense Elven Bell, which was found some years ago. A shrine has been built around it for learned scholars to study it. The mage mentioned in my previous topic will be attempting to ring the bell, causing such a catastrophic sound, it tears the ice appart allowing access somehow to the ruined city.

The players will be racing about to find the severed parts of the bell-ringer, to beat the mage to whatever it is he's after. As for the temple of the forgotten God mentioned above, I suppose he/she would have been an elven God, worshipped when the city was active, although the temple will be some way east of the lake.

P.S. Thanks to Jorkens and Silvanus79 for their suggestions. The mage may indeed be part of the Arcane Brotherhood, and I'll consider using another Barbarian tribe against the Ursk. That might make an excellent Deus Ex Machina should they be caught.

Again, any ideas or advice will really be appreciated.

Sounds like you have gotten a hang of it... I have myself run several campaigns in Icewind Dale and love dragging my players around the frozen areas of The Realms. I would enjoy hearing more about your campaign and perhaps help you solve some of your problems/questions.

Sounds good to me; more information would be welcome, I am especially curious about the forgotten God. If you are concerned about how "realmsian" it is (or you want it) the wizard could for example be from the Arcane brotherhood of Luskan. Small tricks like that can easily give an adventure a realmsian feel.

Sounds like fun. One thing I did last time I ran an Icewind Dale campaign, I put an emphasis on the different tribes of barbarians in the area. They're not necessarily enemies, but you can get some definite conflicts going. Especially if you have a few barbarians get into some sort of brawl that involves the PCs. The barbarians think it's all in fun, but the PCs might over react.... I used that idea in one of my games, and they had to talk fast to get out of an execution.

Also, Icewind Dale is very inhospitable to the unprepared. I don't know how you like using weather as an enemy, but if you do, Icewind Dale can really live up to its name. Enjoy!!!
