I have a request for opinion. In our campaign the battle between Selune and Shar is an issue. I have been thinking about resurrecting the old Selunite Paladin order, Champions of Light, as Selune's response to the Dark Moon Monks. The other alternative is to create a new sect of perhaps Divine Champions made up of Fighters, Rangers, and Scouts.

What are your thoughts? Which would work better and why?

I was thinking of this tonight, thumbing through my FRCS for ideas and coming across the moonblade spell. I was thinging it would be cool to have an order of selune tpye kinght-priests or paladins, discover a magical artifact with the moonblade spell properties. Maybe a lost relic to Selune, hidden within the highmoors, resently discovered during/ after the events of the novel the Blackstaff.

Anyways just an initial thought and my 2 coppers worth

Its a cool thought. Could it work with favored souls?

As with anything realms, you can make it work. However, according to the FRCS, Selune's favored weapon is the Wand of four moons, A heavy mace. So, When the favored soul gets to the level of extra bonuses with the diety's favored weapon type, this could cause issues. The moonblade spell does allow proficiency, but you could potantially not capitalize on the additional weapons focus and benefits of using the dieties weapon of choice.

Possibly. That was my first impression of her. Perhaps her alignment shifts as she goes through phases.
MerrikCale Posted - 17 Oct 2006 : 01:59:35
which makes more sense than CG

Hmm... and here I was thinking she was NG the whole time.

By the way, why is the goddess of the moon chaotic anyway. Whats more ordered then the moon? I mean it does the same thing over every 28 days

I don't think it has ever been mentioned in official Realmslore. Just choose a fate that suits your campaign/ideas best

I, too, thought of bringing back the Champions of Light. In my campaign ideas they were originally (in Netheril's days) very much like the "ideal" of the Knights Templar.

Also, I was thinking of running a campaign of Polaris: Chivalric tragedy in the Utmost North after Netheril's fall - a sort of mythic campaign with the PCs each playing a Champion (Knight of the Stars).

My central idea was introducing the Knights as protectors of Lathander (Spring Child in Polaris), who has either just been born out of Amaunator's seed (some of which was split into At'ar), or his faith was "brought back" from a Spelljamming trip during Netheril's reign. Either way, Lathander is a relatively weak god, who is being sheltered by Selūne and her clergy. Ironically, the Knights, protecting the last remnants of Northern Netheril, are bringing about their own downfall. Lathander's growing worship brings spring and change to their frozen kingdom, and eventually, demons sent by At'ar - the final twisted remaining power of Amaunator. Yet Selūne lets this happen, as she recognises the great role Lathander will have in the Faerūnian pantheon.

All of this is still a jumble of ideas, and I thought that some of the last Champions evaded the downfall of their order. Their bloodlines have survived through the ages, and the PCs are all related to these last Champions.

You could expand the Order of the Blue Moon (Found in City of Splendours: Waterdeep) Its made up of Mystrans and Selunites who fight Shar.

Selunite Paladins could easily fit into such a group.
