I was doing some brainstorming for my Menzoberranzan campaign as Selvetarm is going to play a pretty big role in the plot. As the party's leader is a cleric/drow judicator of Selvetarm. When this random thought came into my head. Is Selvetarm a demon? Since his dear old grandmother is a tanari thanks to Correlon and with his taking on the essence of that spider demon lord who's name escapes me at this moment. Would you consider him a tanari? I know he is a demi-god but if a intermediate (maybe a greater goddess after the WOTSQ series)deity can be one I don't see why this poor deluded jackass can't be one too
Any comments on this random thought would be welcomed

Well, some things need to be put in "canon" order here.
Lolth was thrown out of the Seldarine, named and cursed into spider demon / tanar'ri form. Her true form was that of a deity ... and now is again that of a deity. She is no longer a tanar'ri and no-one knows for sure how short (by deific standards) that state actually lasted.
None of her children nor Selvetarm was turned into a tanar'ri though, so they were and are deities, just like any other FR deity.
To turn him to evil, and out of Eilistraee's grasp, Lolth seduced him to kill the Spider Demon Zanassu, which he did. He assumed the demon's role (only the role) thereafter, but also consumed part of the demon's wholly chaotic and evil "nature". Thus he turned evil and became a ... no THE loyal servant of the Spider Queen.
Sources for this range from Demihuman Deities via Faiths & Pantheons and the Players' Guide to Faerūn up to Lost Empires of Faerūn. Remember that the FR Lolth is distinct from the Core one. If not in the past (AD&D), she is by default nowadays ... and by default ever was distinct as well - own history and all. |

for the name of the demon lord you can find him in the empeires of the sands 2edition Zanassu i think.for me is not a demon but his essence is altered by the fight with Zanassu,but don't forget he kill him because Lloth order it to him .At this moment before this order he probably became a allies with Elistrae. that's all i know about him
i forgot something he is the son of Vhaerun
