Posted - 14 Aug 2006 : 18:06:42 It finally happened... my campaign caved in under pressure of statblock tinkering, and I need to find an easier way to run a game. I've been thinking about running the Red Hand of Doom for a while now, and the excellent Dragons of Faerûn presented a few of the missing pieces.
So, for your enjoyment and hopefully comments, without much further ado, here is...
A Rough Outline of the Red Claw of the Dragon Queen The Red Claw of the Dragon Queen (levels 1 to 17, and possibly beyond) is a journey from the Shining South to the Sea of Fallen Stars, and focus early beginnings of the Dragonfall War in Faerûn.
The chief villain is Tiamat personified by Alasklerbanbastos, the Great Bone Wyrm, and the Church of Tiamat in Unther, but will not appear before every late in the campaign - if they appear personally at all.
Notable minions includes Tiglath and Malise of the Tiamat, in addition to High Wyrmlord Azarr Kul and Wyrmlord Hravek Kharn of the Red Hand of Doom.
Adventure sequence The main sources for this campaign is Dragons of Faerûn, Dungeon 84, Dungeon 137, Red Hand of Doom, Shining South and Lost Empires of Faerûn.
“Dungeon of the Fire Opal” (3rd level characters) “Red Hand of Doom” (6th to 12th level characters) “Bandit Camp” (7th level characters) “Cinderforge” (8th level + characters) “The Altar of Scales” (14th level characters) “Dragonback Mountain” (Epic level characters)
Hooks Halarahh and Dungeon of the Fire Opal: Years ago an order of Swords of the High One in Halruua got hold of a part of the broken sword of the golden wyrm, which it kept in its vaults. The order's monastery, located in the Nath, is now in ruins and that particularity branch of the order has since disbanded after a series of now forgotten treacheries.
Recently a sage on dragonkind was approached about foreigners asking about this sword, paying good gold for the information available. The sage has since been killed and her research stolen as the campaign begins.
Her husband wants her avenged, and offers the characters 200 gp each for traveling to the most likely spot they'll show up - the fallen monastery – slay the assassins and return the research. The chief award is off course the possibility of finding the part of the sword.
Channath Vale and the Red Hand of Doom: The assassins – minions of Malise - carry a couple of items that provides hooks further into the campaign. They have maps of the regions between Halruua and Unther, a treasure map to the Vault of Vraath Keep and the second part of the sword, and a letter of recommendation from Tiglath.
The most likely road ahead is towards Channath Vale, the Vault of Vraath Keep and the Red Hand of Doom.
Unther and the Altar of Scales: It become clearer that High Wyrmlord Azarr Kul is supported by clerics of Tiamat from Unther, as the Red Hand of Doom fall apart.
The clerics (LE Human Cleric 9 of Tiamat) are all utheric, and carry a maps and letters that give clues of their origin and allegiance. One of the cleric carry a map of Unthalass, with a sircle around a nondescript town square. One of the entrances to the Altar of Scales is located in this area. The second cleric carry a letter of recommendation from Tiglath, and a map of the Smoking Mountains with additional notes about a tracks in the northeastern region of that mountain range.
