No prizes for guessing what sort of campaign I'm running...

...Starting Next Wednesday [B)

Luckily enough I've been a good boy and prepared; or at least I think I have! In this scroll I'd like to raise a few points that I've come across while writing this campaign.

First allow me to set the scene (roughly) The Players are part of a Mercenary group (both drow and non-drow) set in Menzo. Largely this will be a city based adventure. Additionally it’s after Drizzt's time in the city but before the silence of Lloth/Triel become Matron of Baerne/various other things. In a nut shell: the time featured in the Menzoberranzan Box set.

Ok I've actually asked another DM what he feels of this box set and we both agreed that it was somewhat lacking in detail. Don't get me wrong the box set did require to talk about the social situations of the city and the districts but I felt that it only touched on the various shops/stores/services etc that are placed on the map. Not I've taken a bit of time and fleshed these out slightly probably I've scribbled notes down for some 60% of them, and adapted some of them to fit my campaign. However it would have been nice to see what other DMs though of as my fellow DM said "It’s nice to share ideas around and let them bounce off each other". Once I've 'finished' the document (It won't truly be finished because it will be modified etc during my campaign) I'll send it to Alaundo if he wishes it. But I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts, ideas, and own experiences concerning the famed city of the drow.

To be continued

PS I’d like to apologise for the way this scroll may read as though its been rushed… because it has been :-p

If you look in the Sticky Thread "NPCs of the Realms" there are a bunch of NPCs from Menzo there that I did up for 3.5E, including all the merchants that had a class/level listed.

Digging itself is "allowed" what is really not allowed is using Magic to dig.

I have not develped stores are merchants IMC, food supply , last time I checked, included fungus and rothe (tended by mostly goblin slaves), fish certainly appear posible and a newer source might provide them.

Donigarten is the bread basket of Menzoberranzan, most of the food appears to come from the island and other low laying lands of the city. Farmers have little rank.

I'm afraid I've not read those books, yet another to add to the list. Thank yee KnightErrantJK.

Does any one have any information on The Cavern of the Severed Tentacles; Other than references to it once being athe site from a battle between Drow and Mind Flayers I cannot find much else.

Additionally Does anyone have any informations on the following Non-Noble Drow Families?
Urundelt
Balartyr
Tuek'tharm
Hael'lrin
Shunn Tahaladar
Klor'lbar
Ssh'starm
Ilith'vir
Chueth'duis
Ilueph

Have you read Elaine's Starlight and Shadows books? The first book, Daughter of the Drow, goes into a bit of the food production process and at least one of the families responsible for it.

Thank yee Kentinal, my somewhat convoluted scroll was meant to spark conversation and debate among the other scribes. I was also meaning to ask if anyone had developed any stalls or store within the city.

Would I be correct in saying that the Food Supply comes primarily from the Donigarten area? Where rich fungus farms and plentiful drinking water lies? Perhaps many of the inhabitants live off a diet of fish from the darkest of Lochs in the Underdark in addition to the fungus? What manner of food is imported to Menzoberranzan? I know and understand that many wines and spirits are imported from the land above? But what of food, perhaps bulk supplies of grain? I doubt fresh fruit would survive the 10-day (or 7 day depending on what your view of a week in the Realms is) dried fruit would survive the trip however. Said fruit would end up on Nobles plates for the price of importing it would prove too costly for anyone else.

I actually quite liked the idea of the digging ban, it helps reinforce the idea that most drow are paranoid, additionally certain areas of the city are warded. These warded areas provided a loud magical indicator that someone is digging if they use spells to aid in this process. I cannot remember of anywhere, were its noted that a shovel and pick has the same effect!

Edit: *Noticed a mistake*
