Posted - 09 Feb 2006 : 15:45:53 Well, I run now a campaing where everyone is a elf and they are grouped together for treasure hunts. They are often hired to retrieve some elven artifacts and treasures etc. So basically go old ruins of the elves and survie traps and other treasure hunters and inhabitants of the area where ruins are.
Besides ideas from Lost Empires of Faerun I would welcome more ideas for elven tomb raiding :). I had one idea about make party inflitrate a troll monk monastery in the swamps somewhere (but where and why would be question). |

Posted - 16 Feb 2006 : 09:49:40 If the party is close to Waterdeep, why not using the Undermountain? I'm sure, there would be some elven artifacts.
Another possibility would be to send the party into a tomb, to let them discover, that it is empty, but the adventure party had a base in the undermountain. Now they must go and look for it.
One thing, that wonders me: Are you sure, that the Elves from Evermeet would entrust the search for ancient elven artifacts to an half drow?

In general, I would suggest keep in mind the elven mindset as you develop your tombs. Utilize the natural world around you to create defenses.
Think about the patron deity of the dead and design the tomb with that in mind. Tree-top tombs and the like.
Consider if the elf has designed their own tomb, and if not, what the dead elf’s family thought of the deceased and how would they have wanted to entomb their ancestor. Did they regard him as a great hero and want people to come and relive the legend of their relative, or did she create a devastating spell that wasn’t trusted in the hands of the shorter lived race’s hands, and the tomb is more a series of deadly traps and battle-ready constructs?
Imagine the players discovering a long catacomb of elven warriors that fell during a war against gnolls, and they find out that the catacomb hold the bodies of non-elven heros (read; a party of adventurers) that helped during the war, and the artifacts and magic items are, by lineage, to be delivered to the heirs. The PC’s get to travel to Thay to return a scepter to a young girl who is a descendent, only to find that the girl is a slave who couldn’t possibly defend herself from those who would kill her for the artifact…or a powerful Red Mage who would abuse the power.
How do the players react when a tomb in the elven forest is being used as a hiding place for a harried and weary group of drow who have escaped to the surface? The drow are fleeing the evil of their race, but have also despoiled the tomb of a cleric of Solonor Thelandira, and the angry ghost of the cleric wants revenge. The ghost, however, is trapped in a sword and can’t go after the drow himself. The sword, complete with angry ghost, is the artifact that the party has been sent to recover. How will the sword react to the half-drow shopkeeper/father?
Awakened Animals that ask bizarre riddles to allow the players passage into the tomb is pretty good for a worshiper of Erevan Ilesere.
How do the elves of Evermeet react when the players return with a (inactive) moonblade that no one can seem to trace to an identifiable family?
An idea that I’ve used to great success in the past was to have the players go to a wizards tower that used to contain a great deal of apprentices. It was a good excuse to come up with a lot of neat magic items that practicing students would have made. Examples included a reed that, upon command, blew a small stream of hot air. Useful for keeping one’s long locks dry after a bath. Or a matched pair of spectacles that allow the users to see what the other pair of glasses see through one lens. Great for cheating on tests, but not much else since they only work within ten feet of each other. A clay teacup that keeps any liquid in it hot. A spoon that sweetens tea when stirred in hot liquid. A clay teacup that looks like it keeps whatever liquid is in it hot, but actually turns any liquid into a nasty tasting, but potent, liquor. A quill that flattens any parchment it writes on. A scroll case that always perfectly rolls up any parchment. An amulet that creates a very realistic looking psudeodragon, pixie, raven or similar animal that perches on your shoulder. Very useful for those who haven’t quite mastered the Find Familiar spell, but don’t want to admit it. Stuff like that. IMC, I had the pair of Master’s researching dragons, and the tower was inhabited by the ghost of a very angry red dragon. That might be a little tough for the party levels you mentioned above.

Posted - 09 Feb 2006 : 19:00:18 Problem whit later is that the Evermeet sages PAY them raid elven tombs to recover artifacts before any OTHER treasure hunter gets them :P. Also artifacts or items which have started produce odd magicall effects thanks years passed are also recovered. They did recently recover a Vyshaanti magic crown which opened a fist sized gate to Abyss into a elven tomb near Silvanest ruins. |

Posted - 09 Feb 2006 : 16:18:47 Allow them the frustration of having all of that hard work raiding an elven tomb, only to realize that somebody beat them to the punch by about a hundred years.
Have the elves come looking for the repeat offenders of the tombs of their anscestors.

Posted - 09 Feb 2006 : 15:50:29 Oh, as note every party member is now 6lvl and we started in 5lvl party. Their base of operations are in Waterdeep, in a old antique store which is runned by one PC's father.
Party consist of;
male moon elf Swashbuckler 3/wizard 3 male wild elf Fighter 6 male moon elf Rogue 2/Monk 2/Ninja 2 (his father runs the store and his father is half-drow rogue 7/shadowdancer 2) female star elf Favoured Soul 5 (only party member who is not yet reached 6lvl and she plans multiclass as cleric to get turn undead ability. Another suggestion being si that she starts take Sorceress levels and become Mystic Theurge) |
