I really like the concept of the prestige class SandShaper in the book Sandstorm. I am (hopefully soon) going to run a campaign featuring Anauroch. I was thinking of maybe having the tribes or some tribes of the bedine have witch sheiks instead of just the herding sheiks. I wanted to give a couple of the local tribe rulers levels in this class to spice things up. This power would also help justify how the bedine survived so long in the dessert. (BTW Sandstorm kidna feels like Dune a little bit) Anyway, I was wondering how other dms used Sandstorm in respect to Anauroch and what people thought about spellcasting rulers of the tribes.

edit: also the sandshaper class is really good for sorcerors b/c it gives them access to many more spells.
ALSO- part of the prerequisites of the class is locating "the city of the dead". What city would you subsitute for this?

hmm darn!
i guess it is cool tho to have at least 1 culture that doesnt use magic in faerun haha
(i know there are more)
i really wanted to use a place similar to the (cliche name) "city of the dead" bc it has magical writing on the walls etc.
maybe the bedine could be guarding it.
I'm thinking about allowing one of my pcs to become a Sandshaper. I think im gunna get rid of the spooks bcI liked the idea of having actually abandoned ruins! not ruins haunted by monsters etc. anyway maybe the pcs could use it as a stronghold while they search for other desert secrets! (im liking this idea)

Oh, I can also totally see a Walker in the Waste being an exiled sorcerer from a Bedine tribe.

To tell you the truth, while I like the survival rules and some of the weapons, etc., as far as actually using a lot of the material in the book I would set it in Raurin, since its more of a "shattered ruins" mysterious lesser defined place. In fact, if you read the Parched Sea and FR13 Anauroch, the Bedine aren't too keep on ANY magic, arcane of divine. There might be a few tribes that may slowly change though, but I would have them accept divine magic long before arcane.

After reading through this, with the whole lost empires and mysterious stuff associated with Sand Shapers, it just sounds more Egyptian (I know, the illustration doesn't hurt), and that, again, reminds me more of Raurin and the whole Cult of Set and their secret temple in the wastes and all of that.

It may indeed be fun to write all of this into Anauroch, but I guess for me, with the Netherese ruins, the Bedine tribesmen, the Shade, the Phaerimm, the Asabi, The Shadovar, Malagrys and his blue dragons, the Cult of the Sacred Skull, the D'tarig, and all of that, I would have a hard time adding in some of the backstory to Anauroch that I would want to to make some of the Sandstorm stuff fit without bumping a few of the established plots from the priority list.

Instead of locating the city of the dead, I'd make it "To drink from Baerlith's waters and sleep in its underground sleeping-chamber without raising a hand, weapon or spell."

One problem the Bedine dont like spellcasters particularly Arcane spell casters see Troy Dennings Parched Sea its the first book in the Harper Series
