I've come up against a little problem that I can't find in the rules and I'd like some clarification please.

Is there some sort of rule for which spells end when a caster dies and which ones don't?
In particular the spellcaster of a silence spell (centred on an area) has just been killed. But I'd be interested to know what categories it covers, e.g. spells cast on other allies, spells cast on enemies, spells cast on objects, spells cast on locations, spells with lingering effects (such as poison/inflict disease), and many others I can't think of :)
An few simple rules is what I'd like ;)

Thanks for any help.

In 3e, any spell that doesn't have a duration involving concentration lasts until the end of its duration, even if the caster is dead. If a creature concentrating on a spell is killed, the spell automatically ends due to loss of concentration. Two notes: 1) If a spell is initially cast by one creature but concentration is kept by another creature(such as for a spell taken by an incantatrix's snatch concentration ability, or a spell being concentrated upon by a familiar), then the spell ends when the creature currently concentrating on it dies(except in the case of a spell snatched by an incantatrix, where the original caster may try to regain control). 2) Spells being concentrated upon by sonorous hum[Spell Compendium 196] still end when the caster dies.

I'd say that if a spell didn't require concentration, then it lasts for its full duration, no matter what happens to the caster.
