I've been trying to get this posted for the last couple of days and though I had it posted.. Anyway, I have completed music to two new songs set in the Realms and posted that music in MP3 format. Those songs are Brighter Than the Sun and The Leave Taking. Their URL's are

I've completed three other songs (one this morning) since last posting to this thread. None of the new three are related to Shandril's Saga, but they are Realms related and all come from my novel FLOWERS IN THE WIND.

Interesting. Anyway, both songs are tied to specific moments to the novels. Without going into too much detail, the Leave Taking is sung by Elminster in Spellfire and it is a song of mourning. For those without ready access to the book here are the words which I will not post on my site due to copyright concerns.
The sun comes up, and the sun goes down.
Winters pass swiftly, and leaves turn brown.
Watching each day and at last it has found
Another dream to lay under the ground.
Another name lost to the wind,
Wailing away north past ears of flind,
And all shee has been crumbles away.
Of all that great spirit, can nothing stay?
Mystra, Mother, take your own.
Skill and power now dust on bone.
Good or bad, what matters now?
Her song is done, her last bow.
Mother of Art, I pray now to thee,
Take back her true name in mercy,
And as her body is lost to flame,
Greet your own Lansharra again.
The version of Brighter than the Sun on the site for now is the last reprise. If Hand of Fire where made into a movie then this song would appear as the credits begin to roll. The book's tragic ending and the tenderness of the last scene dictates the structure of the song's opening and first verse, but as you move to the third verse it builds in the same way that Hand of Fire itself builds. It is also an attempt to try to lift the spirits of the reader after the book finishes. The song is written for Narm, and while I don't picture him as much of a singer, I certainly think the words of the song jive with his thoughts at the end of the book. If you've read the whole book, read over the Epilogue and then listen to it, you'll have a better idea of what I was trying to attempt.

I'm interested in music and I must say that your music is good, really good. I like to criticise(I hope there is such word) but I don't see many mistakes in your creation...That's good |

Fairly well made all in all. Leavetaking seems to have left me with the best impression so far, due to atmosphere, melodies and composition. It is quite dark and moody, I imagine it fitting well with a trip to a deep forest in the late afternoon as the sun is setting, perhaps during a quiet and cold winterday with a group of adventurers walking amidst the trees, enjoying the last few, warming beams of the sun before it gives away to the night.

Sorry to have tricked you, but that was a synthesizer. I need to get some better recording equipment before I apply vocals. I can sing roughly half of my songs, but the other half are for female voice. I'll probably post a notice over at the Cumberland College music department that I need a female vocalist. Probably pay her $20 / song. |

part 1: Downloading the songs as I write this, as well as taking a peek on the website... one could almost make a Realms jukebox with the songs you've got out there. 
part 2: Ok, now I've listened to the songs as well, and... I'm impressed. Sounds real cool and makes for some good gaming background music. I'll download the other (Realms)music as well.
part 3: Criticism...? Hmmm ok; Seems you've used quite an ensemble of bards and musicians... just lacking a vocalist. I'm not a musician, and don't know the right terminology, but the string instruments in the background... if you left them out and kept just the 'main instruments', wouldn't it sound more like somthing which could be performed by... let's say a duo or trio of bards...? |
