I have only had a few campaigns that REALLY hit on all cylendars. I can remember the original group we ran, which started out VERY lame, but eventually became a pretty cohesive, plot heavy game over the two years we played them. We had one really good group of seafaring travellers out of Waterdeep that seemed more natural, straight out of Realmslore characters, and we had two groups in Krynn that felt the same way.

My current group feels great dispite the chaos around it. My cleric's player and my druid's player really have goals and are starting to feel like real characters. The cleric started out wanting to start a temple in Mistledale and run it, but now is thinking that he isn't an administrator, that he might be a good "front line" cleric, but not the high priest type, and is thinking of settling down, somewhat, with his fiance. The druid is at heart a really good guy, but he is a recovering alchoholic that is constantly tempted to return to his roguish ways to boot. My step son's lythari has even gone from being a chaotic distraction to the group to being a character that is facinated with magic and power, and just a little too facinated with dark magics. And our friend who played Wulgar Browniefriend was one of the best dwarves I have ever DMed.

I can't wait until next summer when all of them, the Cleric, Dwarf, Druid, Half-Ogre Monk, Lythari Sorcerer, our brand new Barbarian, and whatever our newest player starts up with get together. Strangely, our revolving door of characters has started to make the group actually feel more real.

The main downside to all of this is that every time someone comes back from hiatus, they get a "level bump" that robs them of the chance to play their character through some levels.

Has anyone else ever had a group that just started to click with you, one that was so easy to come up with plot hooks and storylines for, and just seemed like they were the kind of party you always wanted your players to make up?

I once belonged to a group that was together for close to 7 years. We started in FR but moved to Greyhawk, as the GM who took over was in love with it.
The party initially was rocky and plenty of party death in the, but about two years into it, we clicked, and had some of the best games I have ever played.
We ended the game having barely survived being rebuffed going against the fire giants, and their drow allies. After that two of us moved away in a 3 month period. The group split up, and we have never managed to get together again.
I've even lost contact with my awesome GM. So if any of you know Les Clark, let him know I'm still lookin' for him.

Falleen Scoundrel! That's nuts... Are you part of the Syndicate? :) I'm still playing my Dark Jedi... but coming dangerously close to losing all cool things due to my Dark Side Points.

Seriously, if anyone ever makes it out to SoCal, I'd love to run Faerun games for every and anyone. :) I love the Realms, and don't get to play often (as I am the resident expert), so I have to live vicariously through my NPCs... j/k.

I always thought that if I could just find the time to play twice a week, I could run one game and play in another, but full time school, work, dad, and husband doesn't leave much time for gaming. I'm lucky to get my one night a week in! I'm going to hold you to that if I ever move north.

Well Xysma, if you guys ever move north closer to Champaign Illinois, let me know, I love running games. I get all of my "playing" out playing my Falleen Scoundrel in our Star Wars RPG game that my friend runs . . .

Unfortunately, we don't have anyone who is content simply DMing, so we are always changing campaigns, changing DMs, etc, so we very rarely get to a point where the team performs in such a way. It would be a Gondsend for us to find someone who just wanted to run, I've even tried it, but it only lasted about a six months until I was itching to play again. I would love to start out at 1st level and play the same group of characters for an extended period of time, but I just don;t think its in the cards for us anytime soon.

I have a pretty steady group that is hilarious... they have decided that they are all undead slayers... I have a Moon Elven ranger who hates undead, a aasimar cleric of Lathander, and a Paladin of Amauntor. So other than the bickering between the cleric and paladin, everything is very smooth and fun. They work well together, which is awesome.

I am about to run them through City of the Spider Queen (2nd time through this module)... so I'll see how they handle it.

My group (well, one of them) has been together for a long while and they are, as the gnomes would say, a well-oiled machine.

They're particularly good at killing recurring villians before they have a chance to become recurring. I ran them through a higher-level version of Hellgate Keep and they slaughtered Vhok, Aliiza (sp?), and all three Dlardrageths. It's made adapting WotSQ and Last Mythal a bit more interesting.

They're currently jumping through my hoops, trying to assemble everything they need to imprison Shar (the party leader is a High Mage). This most recent campaign has been fun for me, because it allows me to pull out all the stops. And my players know it.

A few characters in my campaign I started seem to have come across a few 'coincidences' in the story I had already planned, which has made the campaign 'far' more interesting.

The original adventure involved rescuing the Blood of Lathander after it had been stolen. The guys had no idea what they were going to be doing and created the characters, one of the who happened to be a cleric/fighter/paladin of Lathander. Unfortunately during the rescue he was killed by a skeletal dragon, but I decided that as he was a paladin of lathander and died rescuing the artifact (and to keep the party level nicely in balance) we could work out a true resurrection, at the price of an important and dangerous mission in the direct service of his god. The story is currently running from there :) It's all been very easy to fit these guys into the world.

Another example is the elven wizard in the same party. He served in Seiverils army at Evermeet, and believing the war to be over has wandered the dales for a short time, intending at some point to visit old Cormanthyr and Myth Drannor. What a coincidence that they're about to come head to head with a bunch of demons and Seiverils army again :)
