I am curious about trying to run City of the Spider Queen at the tail end of the silence of Lolth. I have only skimmed the book, and am trying to decide about buying and running it, but it would have to start near the end of the Silence. Would the city be sufficiently under Kiransalee's priestesses control to run it toward the end of the Silence? Would I have to modify too much to do this?

Well, what you could do is scale down the entire module - you could remove a lot of the encounters that are there purely to pump up the characters. Also, a lot of the main villianesses' children/family are uber-powerful undead - you could basically take them out as well. It would work if you scaled it down, but no matter what, your PCs are bound to gain at least 2 levels or so... and that might me too quick for your game.

Hmm . . . I'm torn. I don't want them to shoot up in level within a years time, but at the same time, a threat to Mistledale would make perfect sense, since that is their current home. I'll have to think further on this one. I did see the Dungeon module as well, thats for all the advice guys.

To pardon the pun City of the Spider Queen is a Tunnel module it runs through all be itself. There are a few encounters you can add (Theres a Dungeon module involving a Mind Flayer insane Assylem and theres are couple of encounters is the COSQ WE)

The Players are on a clock if they dont resolve within a certain period of days then bad things happan to Feather, Battle, Deeping and Mistledale. Bad in the sense that their collective populations will drop more or less to zero if the drow are allowed to go unchecked

Since I am holding off on buying this until I can see if I can work it into my campaign, one of the things I am concerned about is the fact that there is a time component versus the idea that the charactes could go from 10th to 18th level. In my campaign, I really don't want them to get that powerful except over the course of several years. I don't suppose there are any points that make logical sense to stop and spend time training, running side errands, etc.

I was hoping so. In my campaign it would end up that the events would be precipitated by the silence, but most of the aftermath would occur once everyting was back to normal for the rest of the drow.

Actually, the whole thing is mostly a battle between the Kiaransalee Drow and the people of the Dalelands. It would explain perfectly why the Lolth Drow would be wiped out.

In fact, there are a few encounters with Drow that are actually female and lolth worshippers. Their is a small clan named Morcane, but I believe there is only one or two priestesses involved. And that is easily worked into the silence (why the T'sarren clan was able to move easily against them).

Everything else is pretty straight forward... undead, Drow, etc. :)
